Konstantin has a video on why he left the Orthodox Church. Right after he was baptized as an infant, his parents began to be persecuted. As it turned out, the remote rural priest who baptized him was a KGB agent who reported his parents to the authorities for having him baptized.
There is no question that he is a Christian, however, just not an Orthodox one.

The rest of the people that need help who won't follow your religious 12 step program? In the eyes of the people 'helping', they aren't worth the help. That is not humanitarianism, that is indoctrinating the weak into a cult with a promise of 'help' -- if they follow everything you say and do.

I am speaking here as an American Protestant.
The problem with the Orthodox church in Putin's Russia dates back to its origins in the Orthodox church of the Byzantine Roman Empire. There were periods of time in the Eastern Roman Empire where the Eastern Caesar was treated as if he were the de facto head of the church, and its "protector." (In the Western Church, the Pope's battles with various kings helped lay down the notion of the church and the state being separate institutions, and this was later reinforced by the proliferation of various protestant sects). After the fall of the Eastern Roman Empire to the Ottomans, The Russian Orthodox church took up the idea that Russian was going to be the third Rome (a lot of European history seems to be about attempts to restore the Roman Empire) and the new " protector" of the church was the "Czar" (or tsar). The Russian word for Caesar. The Russian Orthodox church took over the ideas of the Byzantine church. So there is a long tradition in Russian of the church being subject to the head of state, who ever he turns out to be. Putin has been able to use that to his advantage, just like any of the czars Russia has ever had.
And the Russian Orthodox church's 'baptism" into Communism (so to speak) has only reinforced a tendency to obey the head of state.
I know the Russians Orthodox (as opposed to its clergy) cannot now see this message now, but I can't help thinking you are also trying to reach out to them. Let me say to you that emphasizing Catholicism (how Poland got free of Communism) , is not the way to do that. The word "Orthodox" comes from the Greek word 'orthos' which means "correct" or 'straight.' And the Greek word "doxa" which means "opinion' or 'praise' (i..e. speaking). If you were orthodox, you had a "correct opinion" and were a "straight speaker," as opposed to being someone who spoke with a crooked tongue and thought wrong things.
This attitude came fully into being around the second century of Christianity. There was a cannon of scripture. And then, like all cannons, there came into being Mary Sue fiction ("I'm the only one who really knows what it all means"), Crossover fiction (Christianity and Platonism), Alternate universe fiction (false gods creating an endless string of false realities), and - God help us - possibly slash fiction. The printing press had not been invented yet, so Christians had to rely on their bishops who had copies of the cannon and were intelligent enough to straighten this mess out. So being a "straight speaker" with "correction opinions" became extremely important. And the Eastern Christian Bishops over time had come to depend on the Christian Eastern emperors calling councils together to assist in keeping things "straight." When the Bishop of Rome started asserting his supremacy over all other bishops, the Eastern bishops thought that idea was speaking with a crooked tongue and the Great Schism took place. There was now a Catholic (which means "universal") church and an Orthodox church. Relations between them took a big hit when one of the Catholic Crusades sacked Constantinople before heading further east. And this weakened Constantinople enough for it to later fall to the Ottomans and ended the Eastern Roman Empire. The Orthodox never forgot that.
Orthodoxy has within it an implied tendency to be suspicious of anything outside it. If I alone have the correction opinion, the straight speech, then anything else does not and can not.
So bringing up Catholicism in an Orthodox context has to be done very very carefully.
I agree that Zelinsky did the right thing in banning the Russian Orthodox clergy from Ukraine. They were all likely FSB agents reporting what they saw or heard to Putin.
But raises the interesting question of what Orthodoxy in Ukraine will now look to if not a Czar of all the Russias.

The separation of church and state was indeed inspired by the Holy Romam Empire and Vatican political interference... but the Vatican definitely wasn't considered to be a positive example. Inquisition, and taking down the Templars, and so on.
Also, I don't know of much writing from the 2nd century of Christianity. Maybe they've discovered something substantial that says what you claim? IDK about that one.

The Russian Orthodox Church is headed by an ex-FSB colleague of Putin which pretty much says it all. Church used to be the basis of organised life as the provider of explanations and belief gave us a reason to co-operate with strangers outside our close social group. With the enlightenment science began to give us other means of explanation and the (immediate) relevance became lost. Having lost it's grand relevance it is increasingly co-opted and distorted by politicians (witness Trump) or autocrats (Stalin now Putin) as just another tool - truly the opiate of the masses, Marx would be proud. They have no interest in true religion, it's just a means of misleading people and indoctrination for them.
I'm an animist if anything ;-) you see the truth in small things and beautiful places. Which fit's quite nicely with Buddhism, lot of truth in the concept most of the problems in life are caused by us chasing things we think we want or running from things we think we fear - you can scale that up to Ukraine, Putin chases something he thinks he wants and destroys what he has in the process. The west fear escalation and make it more likely by denying the Ukrainians what they need to stop Russia committing a holocaust on NATOs border.

I would say kind of mental anesthesia.
I’m suspicious that this could be work done from darkside…
    Greetings from Slovakia

It is good to have you showing the eveil of Russia and his roots. This war has awakened in may people and Poland the memory of the Russian colonialism and the constant pathologic lies on many levels they forced the society to. Thanks for your knowledge and engagement.

And the best part of me loves everything equally, infinitely more than the hatred can hate. And, well, I haven't done anything truly horrible to anyone out of malicious intent, so it seems to work well enough.

Every human bureaucracy is flawed as we are humans that make these, not angels or saints. However, you look at the negative, look at the positive things, countless the church does for the world. You can not have a negative filter. Freedom of religion and free speech are almost the same. Of course each church defends it dogma, but that is not what we are talking about, we are talking as a humanist, we all can choose freely and openly which set of ideals we ascribe to.

There can be no freedom of religion for the true believer. There's only one truth, anything else is either a warped interpretation or a straight up lie. You either hold on to a lie, full or partial, or you hold onto the truth and won't compromise it for anything. Consequently, anyone who's not holding onto the same truth as you is lost and damned.
There's no need for artificial complexity to reconcile a self-contradiction in this line of thought, unlike denying the supernatural while also believing in the God. That's why it's powerful, convincing, and will always drive a wedge between the true believers and the rest of us.

What is the percentage of wars not fought over religion? Religion causes wars. It is per definition an exclusion of rational thoughts and rational approach to situational problems.

Wow! Another excellent analysis! The secular state has throughout history desired to subordinate religion for state purposes. Russian Orthodox church is a creature of the state not seen in Europe since the Divine Right monarchies of Europe. Russian culture in Mongol, and Russia did not experience the Reformation or Enlightenment as a people in a way the rest of Europe experienced it. Since individualism and human rights (humanism) are a basis of the Judeo-Christian faith, these faiths must be subdued by the State (censored and outlawed) to stop opposition to government tyranny.

@EconLessons religion is a business, plenty of good virtuous folks that give it its animated life but dig a little deeper, I'm referencing the catholic church specifically, it may have been pure in its intent before the Roman state wove it through its system of government but its rarely been a force of good since, it's a system that is craven in its pursuit of power, they and their state buddy's with guns and a few other christian denominations essentially destroyed or genocided our most ancient continuous spirituality of humanity, that of the aboriginals of Australia, I've had the good fortune of hearing first hand from aboriginal friends how they were persecuted and denied their language and customs, the church purposely did that around the globe to anyone they felt they had the upper over, these people never asked for that to be done to them, the religion and the state with guns did to these people what russia is doing to the Ukrainians, I walked out of that institution 42 years ago at age 16, I saw some horrific abuse from the clergy to kids in their care, I've never set foot in one of their churches since, sorry if I'm soap boxy and I actually hang out for your takes on the war

German here. I can’t figure it out.
I really tried, but I can’t figure out what that German word mentioned at around 3:20 could be.
“Oofhabeggen”is what I hear him say.
Maybe that is meant to be “aufarbeiten”.
That’s the closest sounding German word I could come up with.
But that doesn’t make too much sense in the context.
