Polarography is a method that can be used to 1. identify a Ion and 2. quantify it at the same time. Meaning you can get to know what Ions are in your solution aswell as how much of it is in it. It does this by raising the voltage slowly and measuring the current that applies at each voltage. The half-wave potential, meaning the voltage in the middle of every "step", that means jumps or sharply increased currents, is specific for certain ions and therefor can be used to identify them. The "step-size", meaning the total increase of current at every jump is proportional to the specific ion concentration. As such its possible to calculate the ion concentration based on the increase in the current at its specific voltage.
