    I remember that news interview from a little while ago where she said her long-term goal was to find a way to walk across the stage at graduation. If she's already getting to use an exoskeleton just six months after her accident, I know she'll find a way to make her goal a reality!

      I would love to talk to you. This video has revived my youthful dream again to work as an OT or PT. I had forgotten how much joy I have in helping people to overcome physical challenges caused by accidental injuries or health issues. I needed to remember that to break out of the grief I have in losing loved ones to those things.

    • @jennifers6463
      @jennifers6463 2 года назад

      I'm curious with having those physical therapies with the combination with neuroplasticity and the power of the mind, can a person walk again? I have heard of stories of people totally recovering from strokes, so why not a spinal injury? Both the brain and spine are made up of neurons, therefore if the brain can fully recover from a stroke, why not from a spinal injury? Just curious of your opinion.

    • @sharonie1
      @sharonie1 2 года назад +3

      @@jennifers6463 it's great to be curious! The answer really depends on the type of injury. A complete spinal cord injury means all function/sensation below the level of injury has been lost. An incomplete spinal cord injury can have more potential for recovery and regaining of function but this is often case-by-case. These distinctions and potentials would be determined by medical professionals.
      A stroke or brain injury creates a different type of paralysis or impairment and in that case, yes, there is evidence that plasticity and spontaneous recovery play a very big role!
      This exoskeleton can be used for all these types of injuries as a mobility aid AND as a rehabilitation tool in the therapeutic setting.
      Please continue to be curious and do your own research 🙂 The human body/brain is amazing!

    • @nicolahall27
      @nicolahall27 2 года назад

      May I ask, can exoskeleton help strengthen muscles to maybe eventually walk again? I understand it depends on the injury, but it seems such an amazing step for paralysis. It looks like something that not only helps people achieve the feeling of walking again, but can maybe help the legs and muscles etc move.

    I was hospitalised last year due to UTI, pneumonia and HLH(a serious condition where my immune system acted against my own body abnormally), got deficient in vitamins due to many antibiotics and I wasn’t able to walk properly. I was so scared…I called my grandmom and cried and told the doctors I fear never walking again. They never said anything is going to be wrong but I was v scared. Apparently it was temporary and got cured after taking some supplements….it was diagnosed by the neurologist as as critical illness neuropathy. I was so glad when I was able to walk after a month and now I’m v grateful for the small basic things in life. I feared losing it once….now I truly know what’s the value of a ‘normal life’.

I don't really know anything about it so what I say might not be true but what I was thinking is that you actually were walking in your mind because I don't think you're brain could distinguish between whether you're moving or something was moving you so in your mind's eye I feel you really were walking! You're awesome and you know what life is step-by-step. I try to live in the moment I learn from everything in the past and I try not to look ahead because I can only control the moment I'm in. Congrats for walking!! Such a huge deal! I have Pots/Dysautonomia and I used to be a cross country and track runner. I unfortunately lost that ability due to my chronic illness. I had to relearn how to do stuff again. But at my PT place I go to, they have treadmills in the water, so I finally ran on there for almost 15 minutes this past week! Super exciting!! I get it. Keep going! You’re so worth it.

    You need to become an advocate for these types of developments.
    I could see you traveling the world testing and helping to develop.
    Developers /engineers need input. They need to someone that can communicate.
    That's where you come in. You're perfect for that.
    They are working on these types o f things at MIT, CalTech and CMU.
    All the best.

    I hope your truly as happy as you are in your videos. I know it's not easy and you're not always happy but your outlook after such a major change is inspiring. To not only accept it but truly make the best of it. It's anothet step in my own journey of accepting things I cannot change or that don't go according to plan. The message you send can help people from small changes to big.
