  • Let's be honest. If you are in a bank anywhere in Jamaica and you see an elderly who is waiting online suddenly collapses to the floor, we all know that we the members of the public will have to figure out a way to get her to the hospital. If we call 119, the number designated for emergencies in Jamaica, we know it is very likely that no ambulance will be coming anytime soon. The JAHJAH Foundation is working to change this. Starting with a pilot public volunteer ambulance service (EMS) in the city of Negril, Jamaica. This project is being done in partnership with the Negril Chamber of Commerce and the Jamaica Fire Brigade. We have already trained the volunteers and have already bought the first ambulance (shipped from Dubai), in a series of ambulances that are needed to effectively run the EMS system. Currently, the Jamaican government does not have a policy in place to waive duties on ambulances that are being imported into the country by a nonprofit for a volunteer EMS program. It is a new area and concept for the Jamaican government. We are calling on the Jamaican government to implement a policy so that all duties can be waived on the ambulances that will be used for this volunteer EMS program is implement, people in Negril and surrounding communities will be able to call for an ambulance and get one whenever there is a medical emergency. After this pilot program is successful, we will expand it to other cities in Jamaica. Together, we can solve this problem in Jamaica. A BIG thank you to reporter Dwayne Anderson and TVJ News. We added a clip of EMS volunteers in New Jersey, USA, to the news story. We just wanted to show that volunteer EMS systems are very common and are very effective here in the US. ❤️🇯🇲
