There's even a Ghibli film about them. And yes, they dubbed it in english and try to down play that balls as much as possible.
4:19 honestly I could see that actually being a joke in a kids show that the writers would slip in that kids wouldn’t understand, but parents/adult viewers would be cracking up about.
Never heard of this before today - so thanks for that! When I saw the art style, and you talking about the story style, it reminds me of "Lucy, Daughter of the Devil", but while their story elements are surprises (and no robots), they eventually make sense...
Interestingly, Brazilian television from the 1980s to the 2000s featured a lot of off-color humor, even in commercials, as a way to push back against the censorship of the military dictatorship, which ended in 1985. To this day, people still remember segments like Sushi Erótico, Banheira do Gugu, and Tiazinha. I live in brazil, so…
I sometimes hear people claim that Bunny Maloney aired in our country, with portuguese dub and everything (though there is no evidence of that?) but, it is true that there was an european portuguese dub for the Canal Panda TV network, in Portugal What a shame, but you bet after a while you'll see Brazilian fan-dubs out of this show
And in the matter of animation, we had in the Manchete network a programming block called U.S. Mangá which broadcasted a lot of R Rated anime, like Zeoraymer, Genocyber and MD Geist! And of course in the SBT the uncensored Dragonball classic, lol
"That says something when even the french say that a cartoon is too raunchy" French guy here ! Just to make things clear: we found it too raunchy ... for kids, because it was never meant for a children audience to begin with ! We love kinky things, sure, but among consenting adults only. We do NEVER promote sexual content for our kids !! But adult audiences in France love this show !
It was intended to be A adult show, Due To The Pilot Though It Was A Flash Animation, For A 2001-2002 Anime Convention (Pinpin Le Lapin) Having Backshots In It With Bunny (Lapin) And Candy (Rabby) Doing Them
Wasn't a pilot, but a mere flash animation made for an anime convention (even though people like to label it as a pilot), so it's pretty obvious why it was like that
I remember watching an episode (as a child, btw) where Candy literally gave Bunny & Jean François the "Birds and the Bees" analogy in the form of fishes, and what had me dead was the fact that she said "daddy spray" and hearing that as an adult now is just wild af 💀💀
To subzerowolf: If you saw that previous comment of mine in your notifications, ignore it. There's a weird glitch where commenting on a community tab while having a video on instantly migrates it to the video comments section and vice versa. And yes, I deleted it.
Do you think this could be remade into a competent adult cartoon if they hired a competent writer? Like a reimagining of the series with a coherent story.
Came to say the same thing lmaoooo. But to be fair, the depiction is obviously based on the Japanese yokai version of the tanuki, which had a magical scrotum that could stretch and helped them transform and stuff. A lot of tanuki depictions are inspired by the yokai version! Even the tanuki statue item in animal crossing has the scrotum present. It's actually pretty interesting as a folklore thing!!
The original pilot is called "Pinpin Le Lapin", or "Pinpin the Rabbit". It is absolutely an adult cartoon. There is even a link to it on the Bunny Maloney Fan wiki.
Surprisingly it's not very raunchy, (aside from some cussing, and some darker or suggestive moments later) so kids could watch it, but the office drama (even if humorously exaggerated at times) and such might bore them.
Ah so Happy Tree Friends but instead of the kids thinking it’s for kids, a corporate executive made a huge mistake. This kids is why you don’t judge a book by its cover.
they censored their anime to heck and back, in one piece they changed the skin-color of any black characters to white, blood was removed, and i remember one scene some spears/bolts were changed to suction-cups in naruto they removed blood and some of the weapons, as far as i remember, pretty sure they were also the cause of the invisible guns in yu-gi-oh, and i think they also did digimon and removed a number of scenes they deemed "too scary" for children. bet there's a lot more, but those are the examples i remember
@@Konani_the_unicorn_queen Digimon one they only remove stuff like Getting in cars with random people and predatory like stuff from few adults when kids return to human world. (but nail everything else)
@@Konani_the_unicorn_queen 4Kids didn't dub Digimon, that was Saban's people. As far as One Piece goes, it was actually a similar situation to what was brought up with Bunny Maloney, in that it was part of a bundle of shows and by the time 4Kids' people realized it's not really Saturday-morning material, it was too late to turn back.

SABERSPARK IS FINALLY COVERING THIS SHOW? I was hoping for this day to come because I wanted to see his reaction, plus garnering traction to the show. As a guy who had the fortune to watch this as a kid, its much more delightful.
There’s actually a bit of lore regarding the characters of the show, albeit very vague and not expanded much. Most of the information can be found directly from the PowerPoint pitch presentation they made as well as some comments from the creators. * Bunny and Candy were born on a farm that used to be own by Debioullman (the villain of the show) * Additionally, Modchi (the purple-octopus-esque looking sidekick) was created by Debioullman as he was jealous of the ProtecTeam having their own pet and mascot, Potchi (blue dog-like creature). Modchi’s existence is based on being a “failed” creation and expy of Potchi, which explains his weird design and looks. * Jean-Francois is indeed confirmed to be some sort of alien or creature from somewhere unknown to the people of Bunnyville, but they didn’t expand much about his past in the pitch. Bunny and Candy took JF into their home when they met him (my guess is that he didn’t have a place to live at the time) and eventually became a member of the ProtecTeam. They were initially going to be a form of figure for him, citing him as a “distant relative down south” whenever someone brings him up or asks them about him. They did mention about him being fascinated by high-tech and “earthling” culture, which was one of the reasons why he loves playing video games (specifically rhythm-based genres). One of the creators of the show (Nicolaï "Méko" Chauvet) posted a couple tweets from the alternate bible pitch on Twitter not too long ago. I recommend checking that out (along with the PowerPoint presentation) if you want to learn a bit more about the characters. I would post the link to the presentation, but of course RUclips won’t allow me for some dumb reason, so take my word for it and look it up. (Edited my comment since I can’t reply for some reason)
YES. This is the definition of doing a lot with a little. The 3d models were kept simple and cute looking while the complicated facial expressions were left 2D. The slop on YT nowadays looks painfully unexpressive and generic.
@@ivoeggetterobotnick3598it's DEFINITELY better than the youtube kids slop Even if it's not for kids really it's objectively better in terms of production than that shit on yt kids
I remember watching this when I was little. We usually watched something on TV to put us to sleep, and my dad would just throw on something random and I guess my and my sister would always ask for this show. It makes me laugh thinking how me and my sister never got the jokes back then, but still loved the show for some random reason. Weird childhood memory definitely unlocked. Also Jean-Francois is the best character, DO NOT DIS HIM
Not a pilot, i did it to have fun airing it in anime festival, to warm up peoplebefor the cosplay contest. i used it as graphic and robotic tokusatsu stuff references for BM, not the audience nor the freedom i had on it.
As a frenchman I dont't know why we made the lewdest cartoons that look like normal kids cartoons Also this show was based on a flash cartoon (called "Pinpin le Lapin: L'attaque de poulpe rouge geant") that even got an award and it went full adult mode
kind of has a super milk chan vibes, here for it. so basically one of those get drunk/high and end enjoy the ride sorta shows. I wouldn't stress over it's "plot" so much lol, but I'm gonna give it a gander so thanks for bringing it up. pretty funny almost no one thought to screen it first.
Similarly, I wonder if parents thought the anime Made in Abyss was for kids because of the cute character design and only to be horrified at what they see on screen. Don’t judge a book by its cover I guess. Did you think Made in Abyss was for kids or think it was gonna be wholesome or family friendly? I thought so until watching it.
I actually almost got traumatized while watching that anime with my dad luckily however we couldn't get pass episode one cuz my dad fell asleep so uh yeah
Before watching it, I thought it was going to be Etrian Odyssey as an anime; which it is, but played horribly, terribly straight. Given that, I wasn't expecting it to be for kids, but I was also not prepared for how heavy it is.
You know, despite on how Doraemon would have some moments that are considered too inappropriate in the West (especially so for the older episodes for being somewhat controversial), you gotta keep in mind that Japanese programming, even anime, do have differing standards and practices than what we have in the US and the show in general was actually family friendly. Bunny Maloney feels like its trying to be like Ren and Stimpy or like the works of Ralph Bakshi but somehow got lost on what its trying to be and it felt like a tonal whiplash. It doesn't add up!
the bible was writen in 2002! the world was quite different back then. the only things that moonscoop told me "no go" was realistics guns and animal abuse!
This just makes me more curious. I feel like there's more to the story here what with all the lost media running about, the scrambled episode order and the resulting confusion. Maybe there was more explanation somewhere that Saber missed?
please stop right there. Studio Tanuki was the one who made the idea for the show and intended it for teens and up. Moonscoop was the animation studio that made the show. Then Moonscoop was also the one who had most of the say in which tv show provider they were going to put the show on
Why does the girl on the left in the stock footage eat popcorn like an eldritch god mass consuming the souls of the entire planet? That face she makes is fucking terrifying >_>
I remember watching this back at Kabillion. Lucky my folks weren't present when I'm watching Bunny Maloney. Oh man, this show would easily fit well in Adult Swim, I'd would love to see them crossover with Aqua Teen Hunger Force of how similar they are.
Yeah I get that as a Russian who's used to the bear, vodka, ushanka and eternal winter clichés (i mean it's better than being called a brainless orc that deserves to die, yk)
I'm running a 4chan thread about it, but it's not as active as it was yesterday. Six of the drawings from the thread have been uploaded to e621. I also noticed AIandAlice (also known as Zody300) drawing Rule 34 art during a livestream on Picarto, but unfortunately, it was broadcast while I was asleep, so I missed the process.
I uploaded some of my drawings to R34, but I’m not sharing more of them. Drawing isn’t really my main interest, and since I spend a lot of time browsing the internet, I sometimes struggle with figuring out how to draw character bodies.
It's also because Yung Knight's (costadelcid) drawing style is somewhat similar to mine, which makes it more challenging for me, especially since Yung Knight incorporates literal fetishes into their work.
I use ibisPaint for drawing, but sometimes my storage gets full. I occasionally draw on paper, but since I live with my parents, I’m afraid they might see my NSFW doodles.
I have the money to pay for artist commissions, but I’m having trouble with my bank app. Also, since I live in Brazil, there’s a chance I might end up broke.
The whole story of executives looking at the aesthetics of the show and just assuming it was for kids reminds me of one of the times my family took a trip to Michigan to visit my brother while he was at college. The house we rented for the weekend didn't have cable, but it had a lot of the usual smart TV channels. I forget which one it was, I think FilmRise, but a kids channel had episodes of Rooster Teeth's Camp Camp airing on it. I'm almost certain that ended up there in the same way.
Well to be fair Camp Camp is quite accessible for children, even if it deals with darker subjects sometimes. It sure aims at an older audience but it's never sexually explicit or overly violent if I remember correctly. I'd prefer my kids watching camp camp over skibidi toilet or whatever brain rot they could be hooked to all day instead, that's for sure lol
The art style of _Bunny Maloney_ reminds me of _Jet Set Radio_ due to the the Frutiger Metro style, but proto-Toriel really steals the show for being the most down bad. The entire show is one big "AYO!" moment.
This shows tone weirdly reminds me of a obscure Sega named hell yeah: wrath of the dead rabbit, which also was made in France and stars a rabbit protagonist with a child friendly artsyle but crude as hell. Although even the most unaware parents can tell that hell yeah is clearly not for kids unlike bunny Maloney.
Holy shit. This unlocks a memory that was always in the back of my mind but I always thought I imagined it. I 100 percent watched at least one episode of this with my dad when I was a kid. I finally know the name of this god damn show..at 19. It wasn’t a fever dream after all.

I never even heard of Kabillion until this video, so what kind of cable channel was it? Half of my childhood I didn't even have cable at all, but we especially didn't have all the 'fancy' extra channels (we did have some movie channels at one point, but only Starz, no HBO or other similar ones), so if it was like channel 760 or something like that, then that would explain why I never heard of it. 😅
@@GracefullyAutistic Kabillion is actually a on-demand service. If you had cable growing up and went to on-demand, chances are Kabillion would reside there. They mostly had acquired stuff from TMNT, Sonic X, Hero 108, and Wild Grinders to Chloe’s Closet, Bobby’s World, Bratz, and of course the aforementioned Bunny Maloney. Much of their selection ranged from somewhat well-known to very obscure and forgotten. They even aired some old Gumby shorts there and foreign works like Code Lyoko and El Chavo. I live in brazil, so…
Adult cartoons like Duckman, King of the Hill, and The Simpsons were broadcast as part of children's programming in Brazil
I sometimes hear people claim that Bunny Maloney aired in our country, with portuguese dub and everything (though there is no evidence of that?) but, it is true that there was an european portuguese dub for the Canal Panda TV network, in Portugal

They did
they censored their anime to heck and back,

There’s actually a bit of lore regarding the characters of the show, albeit very vague and not expanded much.
Most of the information can be found directly from the PowerPoint pitch presentation they made as well as some comments from the creators.
* Bunny and Candy were born on a farm that used to be own by Debioullman (the villain of the show)
* Additionally, Modchi (the purple-octopus-esque looking sidekick) was created by Debioullman as he was jealous of the ProtecTeam having their own pet and mascot, Potchi (blue dog-like creature).
