I spent nearly two years trying to bypass Regional and DRM BS in order to get the french dubbed episodes that were once lost back in the public eye and I CANNOT tell you how exciting it was to finally get it done. Hello I am French, I remember and after some research Bunny Maloney was indeed a cartoon for teenagers and not for children and was broadcast on French channels generally for teenagers/adults but there was a moment when the series was broadcast on a more general public channel targeting 7 to 14 year olds and I have no more information on the broadcast times of the series.
    But generally in French cartoons our actors are free enough to improvise and therefore often make dirty jokes. But it's not impossible that this is a production choice.

    • @DaCoolSpider
      @DaCoolSpider Месяц назад +32

      So basically, Bunny Maloney was a victim

    • @khemisb7693
      @khemisb7693 Месяц назад +87

      @@DaCoolSpider A lot of French cartoons have this and for us, it's quite funny to hear a character make a dirty joke or puns or even sexual allusions but quite concealed because children don't understand the jokes, but in as an adult, it's quite funny but it's not like that with cartoons from other countries, I assure you that we are professional.

      The french are weird bro, they showing this to teenagers?

    • @khemisb7693
      @khemisb7693 Месяц назад +54

      @@cohengamertv6548 I wouldn't say it's usually weird, it's not that explicit (we usually play with words, the French language being a fairly rich language) but this time Bunny Maloney is quite explicit but yes we can show this kind of cartoon has teenagers but we prohibit children under 10/12/16/18 years old.
      And to remember Bunny Maloney was prohibited for children under 10 years old. (Take into account that these are only my memories, I could be wrong)
      Yes we don't have the same PEGI way, works of fiction like Deadpool are prohibited for under 12s.
      Or another example American dad who was most often prohibited under 10 years old and for certain episodes it was prohibited under 12 years old.
      But it's also a cultural difference, the French in general are less prudish.
      (I'm not good for explained so if you are confused this is my fault XD)

    • @MetalChaos4594
      @MetalChaos4594 Месяц назад +10

      Yeah,the show didn’t had any problem when it was on GameOne (a French Video game/technology/anime based channel for teens) but when it was on Canal + Family (like it says…a family channel) on mid day kinda, yeah it was problematic….

    Yes, IT WAS ALWAYS SUPPOSED TO BE AN ADULT SHOW.
    YES, Jean, like Saber mentioned, is an alien.
    The “racoon dude” was supposed to have balls sticking out all the time, I’m not joking.
    And the actual founder of the show is still active on twitter to this day.

    There’s actually a bit of lore regarding the characters of the show, albeit very vague and not expanded much.
    Most of the information can be found directly from the PowerPoint pitch presentation they made as well as some comments from the creators.
    * Bunny and Candy were born on a farm that used to be own by Debioullman (the villain of the show)
    * Additionally, Modchi (the purple-octopus-esque looking sidekick) was created by Debioullman as he was jealous of the ProtecTeam having their own pet and mascot, Potchi (blue dog-like creature). Modchi’s existence is based on being a “failed” creation and expy of Potchi, which explains his weird design and looks.
    * Jean-Francois is indeed confirmed to be some sort of alien or creature from somewhere unknown to the people of Bunnyville, but they didn’t expand much about his past in the pitch. Bunny and Candy took JF into their home when they met him (my guess is that he didn’t have a place to live at the time) and eventually became a member of the ProtecTeam. They were initially going to be a form of figure for him, citing him as a “distant relative down south” whenever someone brings him up or asks them about him. They did mention about him being fascinated by high-tech and “earthling” culture, which was one of the reasons why he loves playing video games (specifically rhythm-based genres).
    One of the creators of the show (Nicolaï "Méko" Chauvet) posted a couple tweets from the alternate bible pitch on Twitter not too long ago. I recommend checking that out (along with the PowerPoint presentation) if you want to learn a bit more about the characters.
    I would post the link to the presentation, but of course RUclips won’t allow me for some dumb reason, so take my word for it and look it up.

    You know, despite on how Doraemon would have some moments that are considered too inappropriate in the West (especially so for the older episodes for being somewhat controversial), you gotta keep in mind that Japanese programming, even anime, do have differing standards and practices than what we have in the US and the show in general was actually family friendly. Bunny Maloney feels like its trying to be like Ren and Stimpy or like the works of Ralph Bakshi but somehow got lost on what its trying to be and it felt like a tonal whiplash. It doesn't add up!

The house we rented for the weekend didn't have cable, but it had a lot of the usual smart TV channels. I never even heard of Kabillion until this video, so what kind of cable channel was it? Half of my childhood I didn't even have cable at all, but we especially didn't have all the 'fancy' extra channels (we did have some movie channels at one point, but only Starz, no HBO or other similar ones), so if it was like channel 760 or something like that, then that would explain why I never heard of it. 😅

    • @ixsketch
      @ixsketch Месяц назад +5

      @@GracefullyAutistic Kabillion is actually a on-demand service. If you had cable growing up and went to on-demand, chances are Kabillion would reside there.
      They mostly had acquired stuff from TMNT, Sonic X, Hero 108, and Wild Grinders to Chloe’s Closet, Bobby’s World, Bratz, and of course the aforementioned Bunny Maloney. Much of their selection ranged from somewhat well-known to very obscure and forgotten. They even aired some old Gumby shorts there and foreign works like Code Lyoko and El Chavo.
      I only watched a few episodes of Bunny Maloney on there for a short time, it didn’t peek much of my interest back then. I remember the show more clearly now thanks to videos like this popping up like hotcakes.
