Day 179 of asking you to read Twokinds. JUST DO IT ALREADY POTATO HEAD!!!!
Really nice video as usual! I'm not sure how we can request for you to review stuff but I would like to recommend a show called "Paddle pop adventures" or just "Max adventures" in some countries, including mine. It's a franchise with many movies and series done to promote ice creams from an australian (?) brand. The most recent movie released was in 2d and made by the same studio that animated bob's burgers. I think it would be a really cool franchise to talk about on your channel, since it isn't even that known despite how many content it has!
I will wait even till day 1000 for you to read Twokinds! Just read it so I can die in peace!!!
This is why animation is not just for kids, it’s it’s own medium with a lot of genres and audiences

Absolutely like the legend of vox machina
Exactly
I wonder what the upcoming movie "Fixed" directed by Genndy Tartakovsky will be like. Hopefully, better than Sausage Party.
I kinda like the symbolism with Bluey's violence and vanity and Tubby's empathy and self doubt being devoured and formed human. It's poetic.
Also the last unicorn corpse symbolising nature and our rejection/embrace? of it.
yhh the move was ok.. the plot made less sense in the 3rd act . what was the point of the unicorn daughter? what was her role in movie. 5.6/10
@@God-T I like to think she represents redemption or innocence. Plus this is how I see the tragedy of Bluey.
His father was sad because Bluey and Tubby's mother chose another man. Bluey is also seeing this and seeing that she's closer to Tubby, possibly seeing this as her choosing his brother over him. This could've left an impression in him that he's gonna be left alone too.
Being embraced by Tubby at the end probably gave Bluey some hope that he was still loved. But seeing Tubby go to Maria is what finally broke him and made him think Tubby doesn't love him. It's like his mother choosing another man all over again.
@@God-T
Like the comment above says, I also think Maria is like a symbolic representation of humans having some retained connection to nature. Maria ha encountered another monsterous creature that is like what she became at the end of the movie (possibly another unicorn that was partially eaten, or dying while the Simians worshipped it). ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Much like Bluey and Tubby represent how humans are capable of both being kind and empathetic, as well as cruel and monsterous (they're also great nods to Cain and Abel).
For anyone who has seen the trailer of Unicorn Wars for years: Yeah this is not for kids, who else would think otherwise?
This movie is basically what happens when you put The Care Bears, Happy Tree Friends, Apocalypse Now & The Last Unicorn in a blender.
And a little bit of All Quiet on the Western Front, at least with their depictions of warfare.
I LITERALLY THOUGHT OF SAVING PRIVATE RYAN TOO😭
fun fact. the whole movie was animated on blender, both the 2d and 3d animations
I felt it was more Apocalypse Now, Happy Tree Friends and Backdraft. Definite Vietnam War, cuddly yet gory violence with a brotherly conflict, such a great combo
Funny cuz it's made in a software named blender
The human at the end is a mixture of:
_The sapience of Simians. The awareness of what it is doing_
_The violence of Bluey. Humanity's vanity and malice_
_The empathy of Tubby. Humanity's kindness and compassion_
_The connection to nature Maria is. Humanity will always be connected to it_
the fact that it took tubby, whos seen as pure; bluey, whos more violent; and the corpse of a unicorn to form a human is just so interesting to me. its like its showing humans are both empathetic, kindhearted creatures, and also vile, selfish ones too.. yet deep down we find ourselves still connected with nature, albeit vaguely
just a thing i observed

Quite a bit of people say that animation is just for kids but so many films try to advertise for adults and use animation to push the boundaries of what a movie can do
“Animation is cinema. Not a genre for children”

RUclips getting angry for showing this content that’s “obviously” for kids
Animation is not just for kids, it's for people of all ages. People like Genndy Tartakovsky, Ralph Bakshi, and now Alberto Vasquez are trying to prove that.
@Lordd882hypocrite
I feel like animation hasn't been exclusively for kids _at least_ since Akira, maybe like Watership Down. But I guess in terms of _mainstream_ stuff, then whatever gets bums on seats in the cinema.
For me I think the human creature at the end is a manifestation of Tubby’s love and compassion, mixed with Bluey’s hatred, rage and guilt, along with Maria’s innocence.
Human beings can be all these things with no clear balance. And it was born from the blood spilled in war.
The director said it's supossed to be a prototype god at the beginning of the movie

My theory is that the bears stumbled upon an ancient forbidden sight. Unknownly releasing a creature and the unicorns knew about. As the bears grew, the unicorns tried to warn them but the bears, thinking it was retaliation or just acted out of fear of losing their new found knowledge, instead started to debate with the unicorns. This eventually turned into a bloody conflict. The unicorns were trying to prevent theomster from rising and the bears didn't know any better and wanted their own home back. The place was then overrun by the chimps who further fed the monster.
I think that the humanoid form that appeared at the end of the movie was the embodiment of what Bluey and Tubby represented. (Bluey being full of rage, violence, hatred and anger. Tubby being full of compassion, love, and empathy.) Therefore, by consuming the last two opposing figures, the humanoid figure represented both sides of what humans are capable of becoming. Human's pure malice and pure love.
What about Maria? She was part of that figure too. In fact she was the main part that formed the end-figure.
@@lexa2310 I think maria is like the glue that binds the two together, the natural aspect kinda, she is the in-between
I think the whole thing was just a prophesy for the creation/rule of man and the religion was just a way to manipulate the creatures/nature to bring it forth. Which will also bring its demise. Looking at the original short film how they referred to humans as demons and how they can only be brought back when the last of them dies. It was all a setup lol.
Bluey, that Australian kids show about those dogs?
@@enbee7515 Yeah it can be it is say in the beggining the Bears find the book and formed civilization but the unicorns didn't so is like they remained more like a part of nature. Which it has its flaws since they were clearly sentient and roughly had the same intellectual capacity of the Bears since they could talk and organize a massive war.
But if they were still more in contact with nature maybe maria represented the more natural parts of the Human not extreme hate and Violence or pure love but things like the natural impulse to survive and natural tendencie things like that.
I think the “human” by the end is…basically human
The nature of unicorns
The violence of blue
The empathy of tubby
Combined to make a human

I think the unicorn being named Maria fits with the Biblical references they were going for in the movie, especially considering that it's from her that humanity is partially born/created, while Tubby and Bluey help with the finishing steps.
I'm a veteran, man. It hurts. It fucking hurts to come home after all that garbage and be rolled out a red carpet as if it was the right thing to do. I've never felt so lost. I was raised to believe that what we (America) did in all the wars was justified. Like we were defeating the wrong. And it's just not like that. I don't understand what I did, or why I did it. It was my job and I was just there to reciprocate what I was taught. That was back in 2007. Now that I'm home and separated from the military since 2012, it's still like static in my head. It's like there was another me completely dissociated that was deployed but deep down I know for a fact that was me. As much as I don't want to believe it. I don't want that past to be part of me. But it is. I just have to live with it.

(Spoilers ahead)
In my opinion I don't think Bluey was ever really jealous of Tubby being closer to their mother. He was afraid of abandonment by his brother to some extent his mother. We see him get "left behind" by Tubby a few times within the movie. He loves his brother, just not in the healthy way. He expects Tubby to constantly love him despite everything, he wants Tubby to reassure him, he wants him to stay with him no matter what, but when Tubby parts way with him bc of Maria's injury, he's enrages, partly bc of his belief of unicorns being evil but also because Tubby has once again left him.
It really shows that to me because he chose to kill his mother instead of his brother. While it's probably a combination of this hatred towards his mother for cheating and everything else. The conversation that his father had with him probably ruined whatever views he had on his attachment, that somebody could just stop loving him and no longer understand him, that his brother would leave him like their mother would've done with his father.
That is actually a really interesting way to put it, and also shows the trauma a child can go through once they hear their own parents cheated, and how it can twist their minds so much deeper than we realise.
Why act so… repulsively towards someone you’re obsessed with keeping around?
That’s a _Satanick_ subversion there.
He was definitely jealous, and was chasing that connection the entire movie. Even with the scene where the mom runs to the *other* SO, she was actually moving on because she was unhappy. It may have been cheating or not.. because the dad already accepted defeat. I think the dad scene on the boat happened BEFORE his mom ran in the woods right? So he had to have already known, and his parents decides as grown adults to split.
And bluey even as a child wrapped all those fucked up feelings into an act of blatant jealousy and aggression. I adamantly think that because his thinking behind the scene where he (redacted) his mom is.. “if I cant be close to her.. no one can”. It was resentment and hatred beyond his own understanding, and a self manufacturing of shared grief
Also, even though Bluey isnt fully a sociopath (actual feelings of shame post the mom (redacted) scene), him actually crying at the aftermath, it shows that he has actually extremely strong emotions led by impulsion. And that his actions were lashes out that stemmed from his own extreme feelings
As you can see, the cartoon bear movie has some deep nuanced shit going on. Just so good. Awesome comment though, you’re not wrong/just adding my opinion to the pile!

[Im not great with tone in text so please don't feel obligated to reply, Im just gushing abt Unicorn wars a bit lol]
Great take as well! Yeah, I think that the woods scene was before the boat scene, my memory ain't all that good unfortunately. I can definitely see the whole "If I can have her no one can," thing from Bluey, he is very implusive, angry and jealous (as you've said), I do think the scenes with him and his brother shows that Bluey has a very unhealthy attachment to his brother even from birth, it's probably even amplified after the boat scene. The movie had a lot of themes surrounding leaving and staying, especially with our two main care bears whether it's their mother leaving their father or Tubby leaving Bluey. Overall the movie is wonderful and I loved reading your take.
I think Bluey uses Tubby as a stand in for their mother. He's the same color and 'weak and despisable' to him like she was. Bluey gets easily enraged by Tubby because he regrets his mother's death and wants to keep Tubby close for comfort but still has that underlying hate and twisted mentality.
I realized that the kiss Bluey gives the unicorn before he eats her is also referencing the kiss Judas gives Jesus before the betrayal. Which… is right after the Cane and Abel Betrayal between brothers. A lot went into this movie and it only gets better another watch through.
This reminded me of the story from fifteen years ago, when an old lady next to me was choosing among the discounted DVDs in the store and.. to my surprise, she picked out Happy Tree Friends. She happily told her partner that she had finally found a cute cartoon for her grandson. Because I feel its important to protect the mental development of a child (and despite the fact that I saw a few extreme scenes in cartoons, and movies when I was a child, be it action or horror, none of them affected me like the death of these annoyingly cute animals, if I had seen them when I was a kid, heck even watched with adult mind I still ground my teeth from it remembering those scenes.💀😬😱).
Soo, I mingled with them and explained to the lady that she should not buy this DVD for her granddaughter (whom I found out is 5 years old) .
When I explained to her the reason for my concern, she was completely shocked that if this is a cartoon, then why do they made this to children.
I told her that yes, it is a cartoon, but only because it's drawn or cutely illustrated, these are not intended for children ,just for adults. So yes.. Lesson learned, not everything is what it seems.
You saved that 5-year-old’s childhood 😭
That was nice from you!
Bluey killing Tubby via rock to the head reminds me of Cain and Abel. I like that connotation.

Honestly got to give credit to the priest character. Usually you see a priest in mature media they are usually seen as hypocrites and power hungry. The bear priest however was simply doing the task assigned to him and can be seen as another victim of the propaganda but also giving a damn about those he served with to the point of self sacrifice. Plus his design is amazing as is adorable.
Anyone can abuse their position of power, so it’s sort of a cliche used to invalidate religion when in reality it’s something that happens in all faiths and atheism.
He ended up being my favorite character for these reasons. Yes his design is adorable.
I'm super tired of seeing representations of God fearing people as the bad guys
Idk priests are typically not that in media though. I rarely see priest characters being power hungry and hypocrites. I usually hate it because it makes priests seem so safe to go too, and as a girl that grew up in the church, it was very misleading.
@@sadie_cat then maybe the religions should stop inspiring these characters with being bad people. Western Christians ruined their own faith and instead of changing, they double down. Religious people need to get over it. Be better and inspire more love like the faith tells you too. Rape camps, oh I’m sorry, STRAIGHT conversion camps still exists you know.
I like that in the movie the god doesn't have irises so he cannot see others. It captures metaphor better than the short "Unicorn Blood".
I find it wierd how they developed things like barbed wire, fences, medals, electronics, yet haven't created any form of firearms.
i mean, those things could possibly be made before firearms?. gunpowder as a whole is literally made by accident and considering the unicorns never used armor in some way they probably wouldn't want to change
well they do have cannons and grenades, I think that counts as firearms??
@@valentinam3224 it still doesn't make sense that they don't have at least muskets, seeing as those were made far before chain fences and other things.
Unless firearms are very risky to use against Unicorns so they had to use an alternative
Yes, they don't use money, guns, granates and other things. The logical answer, I guess is, that in the sacred book wasn't any information about them... Wait, how, when they still were wild knew how to read? Maybe God teached them...
Unicorns impaling their enemies with their horns is actually how they were traditionally depicted until...about seventy years ago, I want to say. They, lions, griffins, and horse-sized dragons were all considered roughly equal contenders in ferocity and equivalent symbols of valor.
I’ve also seen in this film called The Cabin in the Woods
I never knew that. That's really interesting, I'm gonna Google it. 😂
I love how unicorns are seen as peaceful, pure beings yet in the past they were known as creatures too powerful and dangerous for any hunter to take down/capture, animation really isn’t just for kids and it’s irresponsible to assume that since a lot of animation(like this movie) can scare kids
Scaring kids really isn't the issue. Kids enjoy horror, and many straight up enjoy gore in media. Like, so was watching Happy Tree Friends if not kids?
It's more about the subject matter and how it's communicated. And, obviously, many parents have objections to content. But I think, despite them both being gory, Vox Machina is more concerning for kids to watch than Happy Tree Friends because of the graphic sex. It's also narratively more complex with characters meant to be heroes doing gravely immoral things or making light of serious subjects and that being presented as flaws rather than gags.
@@muntu1221 Good point!
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer stone even got away with it. Voldemort was drinking unicorns blood.
Nevermind my last comment, I cannot read
@@muntu1221 how is graphic sex any worse than graphic violence?
I also thought it was a cool detail that the monster consumed Tubby first and Bluey second, bc he's always been second place
I wonder if all the hearts and rainbows may actually be a way of pointing out how the religion is being used for violence. I mean we see hearts as a symbol of love, and you have brands like Care Bears and My Little Pony put it everywhere in their aesthetic because the concept is about good will, but also about being cute. At some point it’s something that’s more for a cute aesthetic than for deeper meaning. The bears use the heart as a religious symbol like the Cross or Star of David. It’s on their pendants and their military uniform. It’s a symbol of love but also an emblem of why they are killing everything and dying violently. It’s an image used so much that eventually it loses its meaning. And because it’s just going along with the teddy bear imagery, it’s a good juxtaposition for the audience without using a real life religious symbol that might alienate some.
Finally someone talks about this film, it's very awesome, the story, the writing, the animation. I'm not really into gore but that doesn't stop me from saying that it's awesome

Unicorn War takes the concept of "Animation is a Medium, Not a Genre" to a melancholy level.
Yep, in the animation everything is possible.
So, I’m not 110% sure about this, but the relationship between the unicorns and the teddy bears reminds me very much about the stuff my mom talks about in the bible. For context my mom listens to a lot of Mike Kaiser (I think that’s how his last name is spelled) he’s a bible scholar and talks extensively on the things in the bible that get skipped over. From what I understand because I lack the focus to read and occasionally listen to some of his podcasts with her, the main parts of the bible where genocide is a big part is because of the Nephilim. The Nephilim in the Bible are a race of angle human hybrids that are larger and stronger than most humans. The reason for the going and wiping out entire groups and villages is because god views the Nephilim as an abomination that was never supposed to be created. The relationship between the teddy bears and the unicorns may be based off of those particular parts of the Bible since the movie draws inspiration from it. Also just saying some of the way the religion in the movie kinda feels like the general tone eludes to the idea of Gnosticism, but I may be looking too hard into that one.
A few things,
1. In the scene with Maria and her mother it seems like they're communicating via a body of water.
2. Achoo

On the animation point I find it interesting that the bears seem to be completely in a 2D style but the unicorns seem to have a more 3D look to them which not only separates them further but gives the unicorns more to the imagination even since the shadows and highlights on them are more ambigious and reliant on the viewer's eye than the bears who are more stylized and outlined
Yes, the unicorns were made in 3D and then given some color in 2D
Also as an animator; Horses are so friggin hard to draw. It's why the Last Unicorn is featuring just ONE unicorn, why Spirit/ the Spirit series has a lot of 3D elements. Probs one of THE HARDEST creatures to draw and animate on the planet. So I DEEPLY applaud the resourcefulness in the film.

So sad that his father begged him to be good, to be the best, and he ends up being the worst thing ever

Toxic and tragic. Having to witness his father's depression, as well as willful ignorance by the mother on the whole situation, and then being distorted by the extortion of military and religion...it's not like this toxicity came out of nowhere.

Personally, I interpreted the black goo swallowing Tubby and Bluey at the end and becoming a human as that human is both good (Tubby) and bad (well, Bluey), rather than being born from the war itself, it was born from the corpse of the last unicorn and consumed the 2 bears to form the being it has become, with the apes learning and evolving into humans themselves.
Cue some very certain human with a pencil mustache (HITLER) taking note
The characters in Birdboy were so interesting and I loved each one.I get the same vibe from the characters in Unicorn Wars. I love both of these films.

@@Dragon_Universe Me Too!
@@Dragon_Universe same it was a fun show
Yup. At least they had a confirmed antagonist (as in villain) and at least someone won the war in the end. In this one. Everyone died.
Believe it or not, the original first My little Ponies special from the 1980s is rather dark for it's time and visuals. Yea it's still for kids and never gorey but it does have a tone that at times is ominous.
Two things that I noticed in the movie:
- all the unicorns appear to be female while the bears that engage in war are male
- Bluey killed Tubby with a rock like how Cain killed Able in the bible
When you mentioned bird boy, I instantly got flashbacks of first watching it when I was about 10. I wasn't freaked out or scared (since I'm used to watching horror/gorey stuff) I was more... Fascinated by it which is weird, and I'd deff watch it again, I remember some parts of the movie. Im pretty sure it was a nuke that happened. Lots of deaths, but bird boy is not as gruesome as unicorn wars is. Unicorn wars has to be the most bloodiest movie I've ever seen.
To the people that don't know this. Bird Boy. It was a comic first. I didn't know it was a movie.
I'm from Spain and I read the comic.
It was depressing
I felt so bad for the Unicorns and Tubby. The movie meandered a bit in the beginning but the ending really tied things together. I want to see more of his movies. ( I also saw Bird Boy)
The Gigantic load of demonic Shit NEVER should've seen the light of fucking day!!!!!
One thing I found interesting about the movie was how it was told from the perspective of the side that was clearly in the wrong (the bears). From thinking that they were superior to the unicorns to destroying their forest, and yet the unicorns were presented as “jealous”. It was an interesting take, and even with that, we were able to understand the unicorns and figure out that they were the victims in the end.
Me too. So kind and innocent creatures died from violence.
@@MeNooNie1806 Yeah that's why I hated the movies ending, cause the good guys lost. I hate those bears so much!
@@joeskys2362They both lost, i dont think there was a right or wrong side, just like real war, its always more complicated than that.
When I watched the scene of Bluey being impaled and tossed off a cliff, I was pretty sure that the unicorn who did so was not Maria, but the even smaller unicorn she'd been playing with earlier, while Maria was the one Bluey wounded. Which to me is significant because it shows that in war even the very smallest and youngest might be forced to fight.
When I read 'Bluey' I thought of the blue dog and then was confused, mostly because I left this then came back without reading the title of the video.
I watched this before the video and MAN was it good.. Def adding it to my favorite lists. The style and story is so interesting
Oh! I wanted to add how I found it interesting in the end how the monkeys that follow the human, they occasionally stand up on their back legs kinda showing that they're transforming themselves to fall into the vision of that creature
I love when kid looking animation is used to make the most Graphic, Adult content!🤣😂

One of the reasons I love Happy Tree Friends so much
@Jack Wrath shut your trap.
I think Tubby tending to Maria reminded Bluey of the image of Tubby and their mom in the garden. Perhaps the flashback that brought is what really sent Bluey into that rage
One minor thing I like in the lore is how the bears were kicked out of their lands. Which that and alotta other moving of peoples from certain lands is a common backstory of real life wars. Including how religion will influence many wars, not just crusades. Just look at many past wars and how religion effects them in one way or another. Plus I love how the characters show real life traits that full individuals to go to war. Superiority complexes, jealousy, domination, revenge, desperation. Hidden agendas, etc. I would not even be surprised if the director took a lot from real life wars, including that of Spain’s 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th century European and Colonial past.
I haven't seen this yet, and I definitely want to! To me, making the unicorns always shadowed/silhouetted makes it clear that we are seeing them only from the bear's point of view. The bears see them as sinister and scary, so that's what we're shown.
AGREED
Without seeing the movie, (I only watched this video), I’m interpreting the bug drug/brother’s murder suicide part, assuming they meant to equate religion to drugs, as ‘when we sober up, start to reason, we may realize that we are all better off dead for the things we do’, (as it was a murder suicide after the drug trip and how everyone dies at the end of the movie)
I was waiting for either you or Steve Reviews to talk about this movie, this was a CRAZY movie but somehow also REALLY pretty.

That ending hits hard. Almost as hard as that one punching scene at the start lmao
I dreamed about these magical horned horses and riding one through a land of candy and flowered meadows over a rainbow.
I love that when Bluey hugs Tubby, Tubby's body covers Bluey's broken face. He could've healed him if Bluey didn't grow jealoud.
Yes it is my favourite moment. They look very cute.
I was really worried this movie was just going to be hyper violent for the sake of it, and I was shocked by the sheer production value of the entire run time. I really loved how much of the movie seemed to be inspired by many minor themes from Princess Mononoke, like the monster being a result of violence and hatred, the unicorns themselves being attached to the forest like the forest spirits and separate from the industrialism and advancement of the humans, or the bears in this case.
I loved the Unicorns mystique throughout the movie, too. More than being the antagonists to our main characters, they were a good divide to the story in how they were animated, distinctively different, sharper, almost as though the unicorns were drawn how the bears saw them. Menacing and evil.
Bluey and Tubby though, what a tragic yet fitting end. There really was no redemption for Bluey at all, not after everything he did, and Tubby was just another victim of his brothers endless crusade to be more than mediocre. To be great. To be number one. And his aggression towards Tubby was fueled by his severed connection to his mother. He publicly humiliated him, shamed him, outright hated him, and yet still sought forgiveness in the end. Truly a master class in adult animation.
Dude, as a huge fan if the short film Unicorn Blood, I was so happy to hear the same music from the short film's finale in the finale of Unicirn Wars! I never knew I needed that short to be a full film but I did!
Actually I was able to see Unicorn Wars when it released in France, they were like, less that 30 showings of it. So even in France it was quite obscure (The french trailer barely got 30k views)
The way I see the ending is this
After the 2 factions are completely wiped out by their own beliefs and hatred, once Bluey fulfilled a greater atrocity, a demon soon manifest from a unicorn and consume both Tubi and Bluey. Once consume, this monster created a being that fits in the morally gray area that is both peaceful and violent, man. Then the monkeys follow it, soon will evolve into people.
I actually like that thought because it makes more sense than from the original short film that both are consumed and become human as it’s more unreal that a human can just be born straight up evil (to me at least)
I was thinking the same thing.
I actually wonder if every bear died in the battle, what about the ones in tbe village? The movie showed us Bluey's father, among other relatives living in the town, without being a part of the military. Were they drafter or something to where they all did fight in the battle?
@@machineambassador6118 a detail I think some forgotten, maybe they were banished by the now evolved humans and probably are the hidden population or they were executed and murdered
@@machineambassador6118Maybe the human monster thing and the monkeys are going to the town to wipe them out ?
everything aside, i’m really happy with the translations. i speak spanish, and one of my favorite things is seeing how different the translations (dubs and captions) are but this movie did a good job at not putting literal translations and getting the sense of what the dialogue is. i’m happy about that, specially because i know whoever watches it without speaking the native language is going to have the same impact as the ones who do. overall it’s a good movie, great quality of everything.
I was thinking the same! I love their names too, Gordi y Azulín
On a random tangent, that person who drew Saber as a Lynx/Bobcat did a REALLY good job! It's some real high quality fanart!!! 👍
AAAAAAA estoy feliz de que la comunidad de Unicorn wars esté creciendo ♡♡♡
I actually have an art book of this movie and creator said the magic forest was based on several different locations - from jungle to european forest. He wanted the place to change along side with the characters.
I draw them too!
I truly think that the movie almost reminds me of Watership Down. Ya know, the animated movie that also featured bloody violence.
Watership Down is tame compared to this m8
It reminds me of genndy tartakovsky primal
the director of unicorn wars actually did mention watership down as an inspiration for this film in an interview
This is why we need more Spanish animated films like this one. They're all too good
The unicorn that impaled Bluey wasn't Maria but her friend, a younger unicorn that she was playing with before her parents wanted her home.
To think about it, it wasn't the unicorns who killed the camp, but the figures swinging in the trees waiting, manipulating and conquering all in an effort to see themselves ascend.
oh yeah why didn't I think of that
I just saw this and I concur the simians played the war smarter than either side
Man, this show was wild. I love it when movies that look child friendly aren't child friendly.
It’s like Care Bears meets Full Metal Jacket- definitely an unexpected combination
Reminds me of when I saw the trailer of Sausage Party for the very first time.
Happy Tree Friends.
That's it. That's the whole comment.
This video is about a movie not a show
@@lydiajulianprower8356 oh..that show...gods that scared me when i was a kid.
But it is good for people who like gorey stuff
Interesting take!
I want to point out that the book & chapel from the “historical” flashback is the same one that Maria seemingly walks into with the monster as well. What was that monster from the beginning? If it is the same one that Maria morphed into, is it the culmination of hate and violence? Perhaps the monster being on the pedestal the holy book had been on was both a foreshadowing and metaphor of the evil, hate-filled ideology that the bears followed (and how it attacks everyone with distinction), and how would be their downfall; via Maria who it originally attacks. It also consumes the primates that protected it. which could be the metaphor of religion either taking hold, or being their downfall.
To me, that monster on the end, it was born out of violence, and absorbed Tubby, who symbolizes love and hope, and Bluey who symbolizes hate, selfishness, and pessimism. And from which, humanity is born. Humanity is born out of violence and war being it’s very makeup, but is still instilled with the possibilities to love and to hate (i.e free will as talked about in the Bible). Interestingly, also like in the Bible, it would insinuate that everyone is born of sin and evil, but may make the conscious choice every day to fight it and become a better person-just like Tubby did against all odds in the end.
So glad i came across this movie, it was absolutely fantastic!!! The priest and Gordi were absolute goats, seriously a piece of art
Like a mix of Apocalypse Now, Backdraft and Happy Tree Friends mashed into single movie, also, the Spanish voice actors were fantastic!
GKids never fails to disappoint when it comes to there animated films, even with the graphic nature in some of there films and its just glorious. Even with the foreign directors coming in and making these movies makes it more impactful not just the gory visuals but the fact that i see GKids is more of an indie animated film publisher and they do good films. When I was 12 I went down a rabbit hole of short films. “Unicorn Blood” made such an impression on me that many years later (at 17) I showed it to a friend of mine. It also made an impression on her to the point where we would sometimes reference the short.
Its amazing to see how far it came to a full film, since it always felt like there was so much more lore and potential to it.
The military high command could also be refenrcee to Franco and his junta, and its inferred that they are fighting a war in a limited capacity to have it last longer and keep the power that comes with leading a war.
this is the craziest crossover episode ive witnessed after being a fan of saberspark for 2 years jajajaja. Ive been anxiously waiting for Unicorn Wars after watching their other short "Sangre de Unicornio" (Unicorn Blood) and seeing the movie announced back in around 2018. Im so happy that other aficionados in animation are paying attention to its production and its messages. I loved it, i want to see more of it, im obsessed. Please go watch their other short if you havent yet.
Gordie & Maria were my favorite characters and really felt like the last of the good & purity in their world.
Me too.
I think the human at the end will embody both the traits of the consumed brothers. Maria's corpse was the catalyst, the human will have Tubby's compassion, love, and empathy as well as Bluey's evil greed, envy, and hatred.
26:53: Personally, Annihilation (2018) is the scariest movie I have ever seen, just because of one monster: The Mutant Screaming Bear (yes, surprisingly, no other movie monster [that I had experienced] frightened me [which weren’t that horrifying at all] as much as that thing did). With its terrifying design, the ability to mimic the screams of its victims, its movements, the blood around its mouth, and the kills it makes (having ripped a woman’s j*w off in it’s only scene). Also, the way it was shot down by Radek was on another level, but, I think it was much deserved.
First when I heard unicorn Wars I thought it was like a kids movie that was like unicorns against unicorns but I looked it up and it wasn’t what I expected

Man that ending is something else. There's so much room for interpretation and it feels like every version is correct.
The fact that every time the bears feel any joy at all,the chain of events following are always so bittersweet. I love it. It shows that when youre high on life, the only way to go from there is down.
This movie is genuinely inspiring
It's so brutal, but as an artist it is BEAUTIFULLY well done. The animation is so good.
Honestly I feel like bluely and tubby represented both the positive and the negative aspect of human morality and the human figure likely represent the gray nature of humanity and how we can easily fall and become something far worse if we don’t find some type of balance in ourselves but that’s just my opinion.🤔🐱
That's the point of the ending haha
Yes
@@BlueCraze the ending could have many interpretations so this one doesn't have to be the ONE.

Im honestly really glad that this is getting known it’s an amazing film and the animation is amazing. Also as an Spanish person I think that the totalitarian military leaders vibes that the bears in the minute 11:58 are definitely inspired by Franco( military leader and dictator of Spain from 1936-1975) which is honestly makes it really interesting, idk if it was the vibes it was going for but this film honestly reminded me to the civil war and the dictatorship of Franco . ( pd sorry if my English sucks ^^” )
It's so weird to me how little I know about the entire Franco dictatorship when he was around until -like the 80s- he died in 1975 (my bad). Schools in the USA don't really teach much about it; I feel like I learned way more about the Spanish Civil War and Franco from Wikipedia than from anything in school

I think there's also some "coming of age" concepts. Considering that the human at the end is clearly of adult proportions, and both unicorns and teddy bears are often considered to be children's toys, I think there's some subtlety there about what should be a relatively innocent childhood can be warped and abused, so that what forms when a child becomes an adult is something else entirely.
Alberto’s creations are godtier and the style is iconic and gorgeous, and the voice acting is goddamn amazing.
