Couldn’t agree more with what you said at the end of the video. Too much pressure has been put on photographers to be the BEST photographer on the planet no matter what they do. These RUclips videos are definitely a creative process and should be looked at for everything they can offer not just the BEST photos cause it’s unrealistic to think all photographers take bangers all day everyday. . All in all I loved the video bro
Thank you very much man
Sheeeeeeeeeeeeesh in agreement***
@Vuhlandes could Not agree more to your 2nd sentence. LOT of YT Videos These days "top 10 mistakes", "dont do These 7 mistakes in Landscape photography" etc.
🙏✨ couldn’t agree more
Are you even a real photographer bro😉
I agree so much with the sentiment of what you said in this video. Our RUclips channels are not our portfolio. Love that you show it all ✌️📷🎞️
True! Its all part of the process.
Just a pleasing and relaxing atmosphere. Splish splash the camera almost took a bath
"When i was getting into photography, I wish there was more documentation...where you could watch other photographer's process."
Couldn't agree more, and really appreciate your efforts here to address exactly that gap.
" you see the good images, you see the bad images.."
Where Willem? Where are the bad images? Because I don't see em, lol.
Willem, I think i speak for a lot of people when i say that this is by far my favorite series on this channel. The transparency and location choices are so interesting and I am so excited to see more
Honestly, the fact that you can go out multiple times and be happy to get one good photo, makes me feel so much better about my own photography. I think it's super important to hear things like this from people like yourself, so thanks for the transparency. Looking forward to future episodes!
The production value is something else!
Entering your world is always a genuine pleasure, each times.
Live long Willem 🖖🏿
Much appreciated! Thank you for watching :)
What you said about getting maybe one photo you really like from multiple days shooting is actually really encouraging to me. I'm super new to photography and always feel like I'm not shooting enough good photos on days I go out, and that affects my motivation a whole bunch. Seeing your process and hearing you talk about it is actually really helpful and encouraging!
I've been a photographer for 25 years and I've gotten paid a lot over that many years but I've liked maybe 5% of my shots. The better you get the pickier you'll get.
@@toddysurcharge771 This is good to know, thanks!
The photo community is like every other community. There are some that get it and some that don’t. If people can’t grasp that this is entertainment and you showing your process… so be it. I appreciate you sharing your process and your rough work. It inspires me to do what all us photographers should be doing and just go shoot! That’s the point. Thank you for that, Willem.
The first one you got of the water crashing on flash with the coast in the background SLAPS. Same with the one at 8:02 OMG
I love this series, Willem. I hope viewers all make it to the explanation of your purpose at the end. Your photos look like I’m seeing these places through my own eyes, your work is so relatable. As an aside, I appreciate the care in editing these videos. The colors in the film are so complimentary to the still photos themselves. Keep that book moving, too, I can’t wait. ✌️
Love this shot at 9:32 - something very romantic about it. Love this series, a highlight of my day every time.
Half the joy of photography is exploring new places and learning about them. The photos help tell their story and remind us of what these experiences mean.
These are some of my favourite videos. I love that you show your creative process and the images you make regardless of if you think they're good or not. I remember starting out and feeling like everything I shot had to be good. It took me a long time to accept that I'd maybe get a few good ones if I was lucky. It took even longer for me to realize that as long as I enjoying being out there in the moment shooting that it didn't matter if I got any keepers at all.
Like yourself and Thomas Heaton, I enjoy the photography much more when I go out without putting pressure on myself to capture portfolio worthy photos. If I do get some great photos that's a bonus, but more important to me is just being out in a new location discovering new compositions in the landscape.
You should drive south down PCH to Orange County. You would love Huntington Beach for its desalination plant really close to the water, Crystal Cove and you would really enjoy Laguna Beach really cool homes and hidden beaches
Redondo Beach would be cool for "street" photography
Ive spent some time learning to surf in Huntington Beach! Very nice :)
@@WillemVerb Nice! Well, I'm sure you will make it down to Laguna Beach some day and I can't wait to see what moments you capture there :)
appreciate this series so much. Seeing you shooting a lot of unsuccessful images really helps me be less hard on myself, and watching you continue to search for that one good photo always pushes me to keep searching too! With love 💕
I can't emphasize how much I adore this series!! It inspires me more than anything else on RUclips; it's so beautifully shot, and I enjoy each episode. I really can't wait to buy your book and finally see a physical version of your photographs!!
best part of the video starts at 2/3 of your great Episode! thx for showing exactly what the joy of analogue photography should be!
I loved the conversation near the end! As a photographer who is learning, and hoping to BE better... watching a process like this is INVALUABLE. And since I don't have any photography friends - this feels like having someone to go on a walk with! THANK YOU!!!
Willem, you just keep on like you have been. Seeing that you give us exactly what you experience on a walk, good and bad photos included..... is so much more rewarding than most of the people putting out videos. It took a while for me to "get" your style, but now I really appreciate your photos.... Roll Notes is a great series that I hope to see continue for a long time. Thanks for sharing!!!!
i'm so happy you took the time to sit down and talk about what these videos are for! in my first darkroom class in college, i remember my professor telling us that if we got one good photo out of a roll of film we should consider it a win and it changed how i view photography. i think everyone who shoots film can relate to the experience of very lovingly making an image and holding an idea of how it's going to turn out, being super excited for it...only to develop the roll and it's a total dud. i think it's important to acknowledge that that's far more common than turning out gold star images that make us go "yes!", at the same time i think that makes the wins far more rewarding
Love this series and love what you said. This might sound corny but showing every photo really makes the good ones better. When we see all your work even if they are not "as good" it really highlights the ones that look great, not to mention it makes it feel more real and relatable to see your experimental photos as well
Love that you are willing to share the good, bad, and the ugly of creating photographic images. Keep on exploring. You never know where the next great adventure lies.
I always love your video, Willem. Especially this series. Your videos is one of the thing that made me start this film photography earlier this year. It inspires me so much to just go outside, take photos, and embrace the creative process despite the result.
Absolutely beautiful work per usual, Willem. I really love seeing your process behind making photos.
Totally! It's about the fun of exploring and the excitement about the surprising results.
love your videos man. i found your videos so soothing. have a great day and good luck with everything in the future. love from the Bahamas!
Love this series and where its direction is going. Also, what's good Squash
Love the colours and the tones in this video. Your photography style is very calming 😀
Your transparency is what makes your videos so popular and watchable. And your comments in this one are right on the money. It's hard enough to make a good photograph. It's nearly impossible to make a great one. Thanks for sharing the process.
You are inspiring a lot of people to go out and shoot and have fun which is what photography is all about! The results are never guaranteed, ESPECIALLY NOT IN FILM, so to expect what is shared in a gallery on every shoot is ridiculous. I love that you create a vibe that is consistent across every video. It is incredibly difficult to shoot video content AND be focused on photography at the same time! Bravo
i'm absolutely loving this series so far! and the shot at 9:21 is just incredibly stunning 😍 i'm always in awe of your work
The pressure I have put on myself to get “good” photos every roll is something I’m just now realizing isn’t fair to my creativity. So to hear you speak on it is really cool, because you are a huge reason I even picked up a film camera a while back. Much love
It´s just peaceful seeing you enjoying photography
As a photographer that often shoots along the California coast, I enjoyed seeing your process. You inspire me to be real and not just go after the perfect photo. My technique is to put a lens on my camera and go for a walk. You never know what you are going to capture. While I often get oohs and ahhs when presenting a beach sunset, my favorite photos are the ones that capture real life and tell a story. The interesting thing is, you can't plan those shots. You just go and see and sometimes click. Once in a while, the click produces magic. That's what photography is all about, and I'm glad you share the magic captures that happen along your walks.
Thank you for sharing. Always inspired by your vulnerability and experimentation. Photos represent process a lot of the times for me, and with that comes “failure”, “joy”, and most times freedom. Your channel and channels alike have inspired me to begin creating my own content on here. And so I appreciate you
I always enjoy your Roll Notes, Willem. It's a lot of fun virtually checking out the places you go to and seeing the process behind the images you produce. And like someone else suggested, I don't see a bad image anywhere here. So... more Roll Notes episodes, please!
the picture exactly until 7:45 is so photogenic it made me smile awesome work!
7:42 man that shot is stunning!!
love this rollnotes series by the way, your channel is a great inspiration!
Le Hole
Loved your comments at the end of the video! I really appreciate you showing the raw process and allows us to see all the photos you take. It is really valuable to understand that our idols and hero's (your my hero baby haha) don't always take mindblowing photos. Getting out and take pictures is more important than worrying about finding the best image and only that great image. Well done with this video and the whole roll notes series, please keep them coming!!!
I think it's amaizing that you share with us every single picture of a session. That's courage! And thanks for explaining that to us, that surly helped me understand better what the Roll Notes is about. 9:22 is my pick, the water under that light is beautiful, plus you have a sunset in bonus.
I think it's hard to make it entertainment for people, while also making it 'feel' transparent, that's why I loved that you just took a moment of silence and explained your motivations clearly. thanks for that man 🙏
Sounds to me like you're having to address some negative commenters, maybe? Don't worry about those people man - these vids are in my top favorites on YT, no lie. Please don't stop doing the Roll Notes Series - let the "gatekeepers" scroll on by dude! Thanks for sharing!
plz never stop doing these videos. I just started shooting with a point and shoot that was my mother´s. These vids make me wanna go outside and start taking pictures. So adiccting, thank you. Greetings from Uruguay!
End of the video, you talking process, YES, just yes yes yes! 100% agree, Enjoy the process, enjoy life, the moment, be there, be present.
I really appreciate the inclusion of every photo. It tells the story of the journey and allows the viewer to fully experience the environment. As for my favourite shot, 7:41 really captured my eye! 🙌🏾
You are such a humble person. Lots of respect to you. Many thanks for sharing your experience. Shout out to Allison who's done such a fantastic job of documenting the journey.
`You're there for the process', you say. Pure gold. Don't ever change. That's why I subscribe.
9:23 is a masterpiece, wow😍
Loved seeing those selects of the past Roll Notes coming together at the end!
hell yeah super helpful and insightful, I haven't been watching your videos for a while so I've def missed you and the wisdom you give us. Thank you dude!
Love the series VB - always gets me fired up to get out and shoot! Thanks 🤙🏻
This is by far my favorite series on YT, I watch every episode, please keep them coming! 🙌
Great video! I totally agree with what you say!
I love watching the process of other photographer. It also helps me staying motivated when you see that not all photos are all the time the bests.
Like you say, it shows transparent
5:52 When I first saw you I looked for a signature, because every masterpiece has one.
Amazing series and work as always. It’s a vibe
Even the photos that you think are just average today will one day serve as your biography. Where you’ve been, what you’ve seen. So there’s really no such thing as a bad photo when it comes to landscapes. Only a point of interest, which solely depends on the path traveled. Just as in life, the greater the risks, the greater the reward. And even that solely depends on perspective. A photograph of the Sahara to us in the States has a different value than it does to a Bedouin. I love your videos. Unless one’s a complete buffoon, it’s a given that you are sharing your process and not your greatest hits. Wishing you all the best, Willem.
Thnk you so much willem for making roll notes i love so so much. You made see another point of view whenever i want to take photo!! Keep waiting for more!! Keep it up! ❤
This is why we love your work !
Big fan of your videos. I like how you push yourself to shoot new things yet your style remains intact. Great video and awesome location.
No need to defend the purpose of this series man. I'm always thoroughly entertained by Roll Notes. I've never missed one.
this was such a cool video… just discovered your channel and it’s literally such a gem i love the aesthetic i love how chill you are and your mindset in photography is very realistic and exactly how i think about it.. ahhh and squash is so cute
Beautiful video man. Really enjoying the roll notes series and exposed look into the process. Looking forward to seeing more 🙌
It’s all for the fun of exploring new places. !! Ah yes I feel that. I appreciate the vulnerability as well honestly, like, I don’t see many photographers out there showing when they take a not so good photo, along with the photos they do like. It’s so so real. And that’s awesome. I believe that photography enhances the experience. I really do dig your channel.
Keep growing keep exploring 🌱🌻 ✌️
That final message was so important. It's so easy to think every picture taken needs to be amazing. Out of 36 shots I shoot, on average three of them become my favourites, if that...
Love you willem! I feel like a big part of photography is just going out and finding subjects that are intriguing to you as an individual. Eventually you will stumble across a few images that you will end up liking either instantly or somewhere down the line. I try to save some images to see if I will change my mind about it I’m the future
Your videos are always so inspirational and calming.
Such beautiful landscapes! Great work!
I’ve been watching you for a while now, you never fail to impress!
Cool! I think you have the perfect approach. The focus is more on the process than the result. It's what analog photography is about in my opinion
Love the transparency & every episode.
That photo at 9:22 is straight flames. Really inspired me to go an do some sunset with flash photography
12:42 This speaks to me a whole lot. Something I'm keeping in the back of my mind with my own photovlogs (photoshoots) always as I try to document and hopefully share/teach something new. Loved the message bro!
The photo around 7:42 is my favorite. So clean and the hole had me confused for a second lol
A voice for us photographers! Thank you
I love this series because it shows your process. You’re just being yourself with no huge expectations on the outcome.
I’m in the camp of using social media for documentation rather than a portfolio of only the best work.
On IG, I’m currently posting my rolls in order with about 90% of what I shoot making it on there. Both the “good” and “bad” photos throughout my film journey.
Thanks for the inspo!
I love your videos, can't wait for the next one
This video was the inspiration I needed to go out this weekend and shoot some film! I just had a couple of rolls developed after seeing the poor results of my last couple of outings and I must say, I can see that I'm improving. The timing of this video and those two rolls could not have been better.
Love this format, and also squash ❤️
I very much appreciate this approach and the philosophy of this video. Looking forward to the next Roll Notes vid. Also hi Squash ❤️
Loved this one dude! That rose photo was such a romantic image
love this new locations..
I love this series so much. I wish they were longer and there was one every week😅. Just a suggestion but if you could put one of these as a one or more hour episode like an uncut version, that would be amazing. Anyways, love your videos.
Beautiful video, Willem. Humbling and honest comment at the end.
9:21 wow! that shot is so powerful.
beautiful landscape, beautiful photos
Soo much love for the last words. Great video as always!:)
I love your style man! it's very cool, so thank you for sharing your process! also Squash is so cute
Please keep doing the Roll Notes series, they are my favorite videos of yours. Palm Springs and Malibu are my favorite eps. Have you thought about doing a shoot in Sedona, AZ? The red rocks are amazing.
I love your film photography and this series brother! all love from PH 🇵🇭 thank you for inspiring me so much. Looking forward on your upcoming episodes.
I love the picture with the Sun in it
so talented, always enjoy your videos. very inspiring!
The end sentiment has given me a real boost with my own photography. Thanks bro x
Love these
Transparency, thanks for sharing this cool experience!
entertaining is a great way to describe your videos, it is fun to share the journey with you and listen to your thought process, I learn from them too which is a lovely bonus
You have such a good content and thats because its honest and real. Thanks for that Willem.
Love these videos!
