- KA-BAR Becker BK62 Kephart Knife
The KA-BAR BK62 Kephart is a modern version of the classic Kephart bushcraft knife, designed by Ethan Becker of Becker Knife & Tool. Becker fans call the BK62 the 'Beckhart'. This model is based on one of the original Kephart knives from over 100 years ago. These knives were forged by hand. Many modern versions of the Kephart model are based on one original knife that is now on display in a museum. Becker, however, managed to find an original knife that hadn't been sharpened hundreds of times. Closer to the original shape. The BK62 is your chance to get even closer to the original knife.
The blade is made from stonewashed 1095-carbon steel. It is not corrosion-resistant, just like the original. It's very easy to sharpen. The 'swedge' on the spine of the tip is a real eye catcher. Even better is the way the tang of the blade (the part in the handle) tapers. This reduces the total weight which makes the KA-BAR BK62 Kephart easy to use. The tang is surrounded by a walnut wood handle. Very ergonomic in all its simplicity. Even without looking you know how you need to hold the handle.
What makes the Beckhart really remarkable is the thin grind of the blade. As such it works efficiently. The scales are attached with firm bolts.
The KA-BAR BK62 comes with a solid leather sheath in which the knife is properly secured.

Noice!!! Glad you like it buddy. The scales are thin because Kepheart was into lightweight gear so he used that style coupled with a tomohawk. The spine is rounded because there was no such thing as a ferro rod when kepheart was alive, so they didn't use the spine of the knife for scraping wood and such or at least kepheart didn't.
😂😂😂😂😂😂ah... thanks for the gift buddy ill treasure it forever😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
They might have used the cutting edge
@Dr_Rez I dint remember any knives here in Europe with a shared spine pre 2000,s not a single one....sorry there was one it ws opinel other than that none
Me neither actually
Lol
Had my BK62 for a few years and it's a great camping /bushcraft knife! As for Bruno, he's very entertaining keep him in all your videos! Most dog's are better than most humans!
Very cool knives
Bruno is the best. You two make a great team he deserves all the wood he can get. Really enjoy your content and enjoy that Kephart knife.
Thanks Robert , that's a really cool comment, I'll give Bruno a wee rub behind the ears for you
Thats what I bought. I love it no regrets!
Class knife
New to your channel. I like the review of the knife. And Bruno ... what can I say ? What fine boy ! Dogs are just the best.
He's a great dog, cheers buddy
The BK62 is on my ever-growing list of wants. Ethan Becker and Dan Eastland of Dogwood Custom Knives worked together on reproducing it. Dan is the one who made the cool chef's knife you might have seen in some of my videos. He also makes his own take on this knife, including a shorter version of it.
It looks like your package is still sitting in Dublin. Merry Christmas? 😒 Give Bruno and Cooter a scratch. Stay frosty.
Will do buddy, a shorter version would be nice I think, any links?
@@RedBranchBushcraft I replied to this earlier and think that reply got snagged by your comment filter for review. FYI.
does everything you need it to and nothing more, which is all i want in a knife, i hate over engineered knives, this is a simple knife, practical blade shape, decent steel for what the knifes intended use is, not to large, fits in the hand just right, simple build. its the kind of knife i would be confident to say will never let me down
edit: first 2 things you did are literally the 2 things its not designed to do, since horace kephart always had an axe for splitting, and carried matches. which is what any sensible bushcrafter would do, the "knife should do everything" mentality is what kept me from enjoying bushcrafting
Understood Kevin. What I do is the same for every knife I test . Great knife
@@RedBranchBushcraft i get that, it just bugs me when people do it to knives clearly not meant for that, i once saw a guy at an event i went to testing a knife and baton it, then he complained about how it snapped in half, it was a cheap chinese made off the shelf kitchen knife. but with you, you know its not meant for that, its just your standard process, so it doesnt bug me as much, just makes me wince a bit
This is a great knife , one of my favourite
@@RedBranchBushcraft i was skeptical about it after i saw the video of ethan becker talking about how he fell in love with it, but once i got it in hand, i was sold, it just melts into your hand
I was the same, a buddy of mine forced me to try it , I'd never have looked at it otherwise, it's my daily carry
So will we see Bruno with a sheath on his collar soon! After all he is becoming a big part of the channel 🤣😂🤣😂
He already has one
@@RedBranchBushcraft what stick does he carry, because I don’t think I would trust him with a 🔪🤣😂🤣😂
@@thesmallwoodlot433 he like the condor kukuri
@@RedBranchBushcraft lets knot see him put it to use!
Have you tried the classics? Like the Fällkniv en F1 or Casström Fält knives?
Neither, I've used lots of knives like the castromm though, the Spyderco bushcraft uk being my all time favorite knife
@@RedBranchBushcraft the F1 is a fantastic knife for the price, and i highly recommend it. It won't beat the Varuste knife in terms of value, but definitely a step up if you're willing to double the cost.
SORRY THAT YOU’VE BEEN ILL! Hope that you are doing better and continue to get better!
But does it Cut anything but wood? SORRY, but kind of a weak review. PLEASE Take a couple of weeks to see what it can really do and I would love to see an update!
dont think so man.............................................lol , id say with that blade profile it would be a great slicer, so very good at game prep. meal prep and camp tasks. its a nice knife
Djeezas, just get a Condor Terrasaur or a Terävä Jäkääri Puukko... this thing looks shite.. sorry
It definitely cuts more than wood I've used it for everything from PBJ, s to pot hangers I like something that goes from the kitchen to the field.
I have the pukko, it's an amazing knife , just trying out other styles. What do you think of the Condor
Strongbear, it's not really a review more of a first impressions video
Ha nice knive! !..but only one dog in the vid. ?😏
Cooter must have snuck off for a nap somewhere!
