  • KA-BAR Becker BK62 Kephart Knife
The KA-BAR BK62 Kephart is a modern version of the classic Kephart bushcraft knife, designed by Ethan Becker of Becker Knife & Tool. Becker fans call the BK62 the 'Beckhart'. This model is based on one of the original Kephart knives from over 100 years ago. These knives were forged by hand. Many modern versions of the Kephart model are based on one original knife that is now on display in a museum. Becker, however, managed to find an original knife that hadn't been sharpened hundreds of times. Closer to the original shape. The BK62 is your chance to get even closer to the original knife.
The blade is made from stonewashed 1095-carbon steel. It is not corrosion-resistant, just like the original. It's very easy to sharpen. The 'swedge' on the spine of the tip is a real eye catcher. Even better is the way the tang of the blade (the part in the handle) tapers. This reduces the total weight which makes the KA-BAR BK62 Kephart easy to use. The tang is surrounded by a walnut wood handle. Very ergonomic in all its simplicity. Even without looking you know how you need to hold the handle.
What makes the Beckhart really remarkable is the thin grind of the blade. As such it works efficiently. The scales are attached with firm bolts.
The KA-BAR BK62 comes with a solid leather sheath in which the knife is properly secured.

Noice!!! Glad you like it buddy. The scales are thin because Kepheart was into lightweight gear so he used that style coupled with a tomohawk. The spine is rounded because there was no such thing as a ferro rod when kepheart was alive, so they didn't use the spine of the knife for scraping wood and such or at least kepheart didn't.

The BK62 is on my ever-growing list of wants. Ethan Becker and Dan Eastland of Dogwood Custom Knives worked together on reproducing it. Dan is the one who made the cool chef's knife you might have seen in some of my videos. He also makes his own take on this knife, including a shorter version of it.
It looks like your package is still sitting in Dublin. Merry Christmas? 😒 Give Bruno and Cooter a scratch. Stay frosty.

does everything you need it to and nothing more, which is all i want in a knife, i hate over engineered knives, this is a simple knife, practical blade shape, decent steel for what the knifes intended use is, not to large, fits in the hand just right, simple build. its the kind of knife i would be confident to say will never let me down
edit: first 2 things you did are literally the 2 things its not designed to do, since horace kephart always had an axe for splitting, and carried matches. which is what any sensible bushcrafter would do, the "knife should do everything" mentality is what kept me from enjoying bushcrafting

@@RedBranchBushcraft i get that, it just bugs me when people do it to knives clearly not meant for that, i once saw a guy at an event i went to testing a knife and baton it, then he complained about how it snapped in half, it was a cheap chinese made off the shelf kitchen knife. but with you, you know its not meant for that, its just your standard process, so it doesnt bug me as much, just makes me wince a bit
