France is involved in the Tokugawa Shogunate, and Britain is involved in the new government.

It is said that the Mori taught their children to sleep with their feet pointed east as an insult to the victors of Sekigahara. It became tradition in Chosho where the Mori lived, to open each new year with a ceremonial exchange asking "Has the time come to begin the subjugation of the Tokugawa?" to which one would reply "No, it is not yet time."
More than 250 years later the time finally did come and the rebellion that overturned the shogunate was led in part by Chosho.

He was stationed at a base in Iwakuni Japan where my grandmother was working in a shop on the base. They eventually married, had children, and traveled to islands in the Caribbean and the pacific( my grandfather was in the navy so he was stationed in many places) but eventually settled down in Nahant Massachusetts where my mother, aunt and uncle was raised. My grandfather and grandmother lived in Nahant for the rest of their lives.

Motonari was probably among most personally brilliant and clever statesmen of the great Sengoku daimyo, rivaled only by Hideyoshi, Kenshin, and Ieyasu. I think he ought to be counted as a “Fourth” great unifier: “Little bird, if you don’t sing, I’ll trick you into singing.” His stance just before Nobunaga captured Kyoto shows, I believe, that Motonari was positioning himself to do the same but… he was politically perceptive enough to realize that Nobunaga had all the momentum and the winds of Fortune behind him… for the moment. I sense that Motonari’s friendly overtures with Nobunaga were calculated and devious, like almost everything in his life it seems. Motonari, I think, was biding his time.

The Oda were in contact with the Mori about a truce before Honnoji but they had yet to find agreement (Nobunaga wanted all the land he had already taken, the Mori wanted some of their homeland back. So there was already a channel open for negotiations. Hideyoshi agreed to the Mori demands under the condition that Bitchu - Takamatsu make a symbolic surrender by having the lord (Shimizu Muneharu) commit seppuku (and it was considered probably the finest example of seppuku ever)
