Hugh Laurie's natural charisma just blows the roof off any room he walks in. What a legend
Rooms have ceilings.
HILARIOUS :P
"Go back to England!" "Well, that's what I'm trying to do."
"OOOOOOOOHHHHHHH" lol XD
1:35
he already told this so many times..
okay...
You mean Hugh-Laurie-us?
Petar Ivanovic OMG you just made my day!
I used to be obsessed with that show. Hard to believe it's been over ten years since it premiered.
+Gregory House
No.
Never😆
He meant House M.D
tell me about it, i recently started watching it again
I'm still obsessed already saw it 2 times this is third time and i still watch it with the same excitement, thanks Hugh Laurie and the crew for ths show.
And 5 years since you commented this.
Hugh Laurie's role as Dr house was just nothing less than masterpiece. Truly miss House.
I record the reruns on the USA network, on thursday they run them all day.
Ingenious idea!
He is so witty and funny. Him and Fry really were the dream team.
You and I can be the dream team too
Hugh Laurie is hilarious; he's one of my favorite actors.
The German Synchronization of House is absolutely amazing and quite famous.
I am watching everything in its original language as far it's possible. But Dr. House in German is gold!
In France the translation was reviewed by MD doctors so translation was great
I'm from Germany and I can confirm that the dialogue does get translated quiet well. Though, I must add that of course the original version is much better. But I can't believe how these people have acted, that was really rude!
+Nil Bal The series aired in Germany when I was 13 and when English was still pretty hard for me, so I can't really watch Hugh Laurie on TV without his German voice. It's very irritating to me. But to each their own :)
And I guess you have idiots everywhere, but that was indeed really rude. Shameful :/
That's because you dubb the show! Why on earth would you (and the spanish, french, etc) would want to put some wierd voice that doesn't match the mouth moves, instead of keeping the original and add subtitles?! It's not like your country has a high level of people who can't read!
I'm going to be a dick and point out that it's ironic to spell "does get translated *quiet* well."
actually it does match, you clearly have no idea how dubbing works. Here in Hungary the show is quite well translated and there is even a job to match the words with the mouth movement.
Dr.Rhy†hm A Dubb can never fully match. Germany probably has the best dubbing industry, but you can never fully match words from one language to mouth movements of another. You can always ever so slightly tell.
Germans say "boo" too. "Oooo" is ironical and means something like "look here comes the greatest guy on earth!"
Indeed. Used in the same way in all of the Germanic speaking countries (Holland,Switzerland, Austria etc). And I think britain as well ;p
Same thing in Portugal
They do use 'ooo' in the same way in Britain too, but it's more friendly and more used towards friends when they're showing off or something like that. Don't think it's ever used towards celebrities
Also in Spain
We spell it "buh".
I've never heard the "oooo" he mentioned.
I guess we could say that it was Hugh-Laurie-us...
Ooooo, herr, ooooooo.
LOL!
DID YOU JUST
get out.
Note to self: when talking about angry Germans, try to avoid using the phrase "I had to get on a train", it's got some negative connotations.
That comment made my day.
This probably is one of the funniest comments I've seen on RUclips so far. That's one heck of an intelligent humour.
It wasn't until Hugh said that he had to get on a train that I understood what you meant....i just had to pause the video for about 2 minutes while i died of laughter...oh Lord
Aaand tour credibility just evaporated.
Your*
The outburst of laughter at 1:36 (after "Go back to England!") is so sincere and genuine. Love it!
Holy crap, ripping his photo up and throwing it at him because he has to leave? Wow.
trident3b
So...youre denying that rude people exist? There are a lot of fanatical people out there that feel if they want an autograph, they are GOING to get one. All over the world there are fanatics that feel they are more important than they really are, Hugh has a schedule to keep people! It happens all the time. Just because you havnt seen it doesnt mean it never happens.
probably visiting from Brighton.
Simple: the French translation team, and Laurie's French dubber just did a godlike job.
I wish house was still on :(
It is. I watch it all the time. I cannot remember the channel off the top of my head but yeah...
Me too Rebecca. I'm not one to watch much TV, however, I certainly enjoyed, "House." It's really weird to hear him speak with his natural accent in this video. Hugh Laurie, mastered an American accent so much, I had no idea he was not from the U.S.A., until I read the story on how he got the part of House.
Jack Kruggan
if you think hes weird in this vid look up blackadder season 3&4 i think =)
Hugh Laurie is the best. He's such an amazing actor and his charisma is just so awesome! Love the man!
I'm German and I seriously can't imagine how people would do that... Maybe they had been waiting for hours or something.
+Coyote W Probably, you could get angry fans like that in any country. I've been to Germany before and found everyone very friendly.
+Coyote W more likely those people looking to sell autographs on ebay, if they cant get a signature the picture is essentially worthless so im not surprised they ripped it up if thats the case
+elamplough1 My grandmother didn't find Germans very friendly 75 years ago.
+Brunon Kowalski Amen!
+Brunon Kowalski Yeah well that was 75 years ago, let's move on shall we?
his german voice is very characteristic! sounds raw and dominant. his german voice is actually so good and fittiing that I found it quite weird to watch it in english for the first time which normally isnt a problem at all since most movies or series do actually sound "perfect" since they are actually english/american.
So I think his german voice has quite a big impact on the german fanbase.
Watched the series....absolutely brilliant. So clever, witty, funny. Touches all the senses....one minute you will be lol, next in tears
It's hard to not picture him as house but he's so much sweeter than his character :P
As a person who has been living in Germany for a while, I find this story really surprising.
At most, I can imagine a German person shouting loudly when annoyed . Really hard to find a person who would be so aggressive as to tear up a picture and throw it in your face. The average German seems too polite for that apart from the thing that the German language 'sounds' harsh and threatening to non native speakers - at least to me.
I completely agree - I have a very hard time believing a whole group of people were ripping up his photo in some kind of tantrum, let alone even one! In 12 years of living here, I've found Germans to be reserved, yes, but also very kind and friendly when the occasion presents itself. They are certainly not prone to throwing tantrums or behaving aggressively, even in situations where it might be warranted!
I also don't think spoken German sounds particularly aggressive or "ugly" - unless, as you say, the person is really angry, which is quite unusual to see/hear in everyday public life. In normal speech, most people here use a polite and even gentle tone of voice. I have heard *much* worse!
I imagine they weren’t real fans but instead collecting autographs to sell them. They realised that they weren’t going to get their moneys worth and got nasty.
@@LegoDonut18 Yeah, people who go to events like that are either nutters, or opportunists.
I had no idea Hugh Laurie was this funny in real life, this guy is awesome.
German translators made Hasselhof seem like a good actor. Think about that!
Van Damme,Schwarzenegger etc. All seemed like smart impressive people to me as long as i was oblivious to the way they sound in English.
hugh laurie is cool
"Go back to England!" ... (That's what I'm trying to do!) Oh I laughed so hard.
Hugh Laurie is so hilarious!!! I love him so much.
Can't wait to see him pair up with Tom Hiddleston in The Night Manager! So much handsomeness on my tv screen haha!
I'm a Belgian and I just loved this and sent it to all of my friends, cause it's miracle, finally someone who knows that Belgium exists... he must be a genius ... even I find it hard to find my country back on the world map ....
well, considered the bright side of it: if you were in germany 70 years ago surrounded by angry germans and going to take a train, you would have probably been in a much worse situation......just saying.....
I see what you did there
+Hans Wurst LOL..
+Andrea Roll lmao
Nazi jokes in 2019, wow!
He would probably make the train though
I feel like I need to defend my country now, haha. We might all be overly grumpy people that throw paper into peoples faces if things don't go our way (obviously), but we do say boo like everybody, not "uuh", you have my word :-D :-D
Ouuu. ;)
Wahrscheinlich haben se ihn auch gar nicht ausgebuht :D
You guys gave us Henning Wehn. So thank you.
That guy is AWESOME! :D
Well, The Frenchs say ''uuh''
in Hungarian we say Pfui and I thought that word was borrowed from German ( mabye Austrian German then ? )
Btw foreign shows in belgium get subtitled and not dubbed, so to not lose any of the original value and content. Just saying...
True story :D ! But to be honest, I randomly mentioned Belgium, don't think he really believes Belgians are stupid! It's all in good fun.
It isn't Hugh that thinks of Belgians this way, it is a running joke in British comedy and indeed with Rowan Atkinson, whom Hugh worked with in Blackadder. The Belgians is usually the punchline.
Carbon 12
I think the running gag mentioning 'The Belgians' began with Monty Python.
same here in Finland! I would never want to watch a british or american movie or show without the actual actors voices! ive watows in Italy and France and I just think it sounds silly...
Actually, in Wallonia, foreign shows and movies are dubbed into French most of the time (and it's a shame, that's for sure...)
I never understood the synchronizing of films. In Holland we don't do it (only for kids) but stuff as House, because it is not made for kids, is just left in it original language. Stuff is better that way.
your hair is fabulous
Jonna Heijke I'm German but I totally agree. The original is always far far better and more enjoyable. Most voice actors don't even get the role.
HoldMy Beer The original is always the best. German voice actors don't evenna act.
They use the same voice for every character. They don't even meet the movie director or other people who made the movie. So they don't know any of the instructions given to the actors on set.
But if there was a German movie and English people would dub it the German original would be better as well.
Coyote W no, you are wrong, german is better koq and taahm is better in german, sanme with al bundy. germans have the best dub in the world they are perfectly trained
Jonna Heijke Well yeah, I can't imagine you dutchies wanting to hear your terrible language any more than necessary :D
Jokes aside, I hate the dubbing as well. Even though the quality of german dubs is very good compared to other countries, it's just not the same. Once you start noticing how asynchronous mouth and voice are, you can't ignore it. Although some dubs are actually better than the original. The Persuaders for example, and all the Bud Spencer & Terence Hill movies. But they stopped making dubs in that vein (a style called "Schnodderdeutsch"), so it's mostly shit these days. I really wish they'd stop dubbing TV shows at least, I think it would really help our general populace' ability to speak and understand english as well.
I live Hugh Laurie sooo much!!! He is hilarious and charismatic😍😍😍🔥🔥🔥
I think Hugh Laurie would make a great new Commissioner Gordon in the new Batman movies.
Then commissioner Gordon would overshadow Batman most of the movie and he would try to be funny in a cynical way...He might say to Batman this: You idiot! No crimes no me no you, be proud pity criminal made you Batman!!!
Hell Batman might be behind bars by the end of the movie waiting for the second movie!!!!
That's interesting comment, considering that new Batman was sitting there at that moment) next to Reese Witherspoon
He would sass the ass out of Batman...
Chandler Bing and House are the most sarcastic characters ever 😂
I loooove them 💕💕💕
well... it is not that difficult in all European Countries.. In the Netherlands and Belgium they just use subtitles and of course in England the don't need any translation.
And eventhough some Britains don't think they are a part of Europe, I'm afraid you really are.
+annelies buist Most Britons do consider themselves European. It is only far-right wing people who think that we still have an empire that do not consider themselves so.
+Henry Simon I realise that, that is why I said some
+Henry Simon o... and my apoligies for saying Britains, I was already questioning wether I wrote it correctly
+Henry Simon o... and my apoligies for saying Britains, I was already questioning wether I wrote it correctly
annelies buist Don't worry about it
I have seen this whole show 6 or 7 times.. Love from Belgium!
he's so quick witted it's amazing
I love the shows project, so to speak. The deep commitment to healing. And winning at it. Pair that with excellent acting.
Now this is just 2 minutes and 15 seconds of proof of why Hugh Laurie is one of the best comedians alive!!
I literally am obsessed with Hugh Laurie ❤️
He's so adorable. I love him so much. His accent is still beautiful, House M.D is a wonderful show, and Hugh Laurie is amazing.
love Hugh Laurie, very talented jazz pianist and singer too, just a general all round nice guy 😍
The German boo is not uuh... Is just boo as anywere else (but written: buh).
Maybe the event he is describing took place in Greece: they say "oooouh" instead of boo there. These two countries are easy to confuse anyway :p
elliest55 i doubt he confused them lol... like he went there, went on atrain, better know where ur going
elliest55 If you lack knowledge of geography and cultural history to an extend that - even by american standards - is simply embarrassing, yes, then Greece and Germany are easily mixed up! :)
elliest55 Αs a greek i can confirm that we do not use "Oouh" or "Ooo" or whatever to express dislike and such things, we use "boo",the majority of us at least.
I thought it was obvious that the part about Greece being easily confused with Germany was sarcasm - did I have to put up a sarcasm sign?
I watched house for the first time and ind it’s become one of my favorite shows, Hugh Laurie is awesome, didn’t realize he was in my favorite movies growing up like Stuart little and 101 Dalmatians 😍
Oh, but that's not true actually. We do say "boo" in German (we just spell it "buh").
I guess there must have been such a large crowd booing him that he couldn't even distinguish the words.
Das "B" in "boo" wird im Englischen deutlich schärfer ausgespuckt, als im deutschen "Buh". Wahrscheinlich hat er es deswegen nicht so gut gehört.
Man I loved House, his personality was wicked, just the best
Hey Hugh, stop picking on Belgium, we don't even need translation :P
If he carries on Britain might have to go to war with him......you guys have that habit of dragging us into wars.
such good timing for humor, very good comedy actor
Thank God I'm Austrian.
just don't apply and get rejected from an art school... (im just kidding)
I like Hugh's voice and accent but the french House voice is amazing too, it gives a lot to the show !
lupus....always lupus
+Ethan Blum noooo it's never lupus
+Kendra Banach But it could be lupus
+Ethan Blum could be houmous
It is not lupus!
NO! It's a tumor!
I'm from Belgium and I love House! I think it's one of the best shows ever!!!
Whenever people talk about Germans, I feel like they're either making stuff up for laughs or in fact talking about Bavarians.
Go Hugh!
You are amazing, Great Interview shows his great wit.
Yep. 10 million viewers every week in France. Colossal success over there, and his album will certainly start at Number 1...
I Love his music
Why have shappi as the comedic guest when Hugh Laurie is waaaay funnier!
I fucking LOVED this show ! and especially like Vicodin. like he did. i had a bad hip and took that over a period of time during the seasons of house so I knew what house felt like. I've since had a total Hip replacement. thank God ! no more pain.
that was a really great show. Hugh was Perfect for the role.
Gotta watch this..
I don't think High Laurie knows we watch shows in english in Belgium :)
This is gold and I can't believe I'm 5 years late to the party
What about me?? I'm a fricking 10 years late!!
Actually, we germans yell "Booooo!"
+Dr. House glad you came back to this video to clarify your mistake.
+Colin McMahon Ja siehst du, ich kann doch nicht einfach falsche Aussagen so stehen lassen.
He even speaks German :O
+UGSETH2 Ist doch cool, oder?
Hugh is such a great comedian!
Well, maybe germans did say BUUUUH but Hugh couldn't listen to the B in the beginning 'cause he was trying to catch the train...
Best show, actor and character ever
Two things confuse me: First of all, yes, we scream Boo!, not Ooo! O_O
And also, who the hell would tear his photo and through it at Laurie? Sounds odd.
Rude fans that think Hugh is an asshole just because he wont give them his autograph. It *does* sound odd, but it happens...everywhere.
He tells stories so well. Naturally funny guy.
I'm offensive and I find this german.
Nice
Nice
love you Hugh Laurie.. forever! ;)
dr. house is the best
I think I've watched every house video the interwebs have to offer and I still crave MOAR
0:00 House in Europe? XD wtf? Isn't England is part of Europe too?
When Brits refer to Europe, they usually mean mainland Europe. We know we're in Europe, but when we think of Europe we think of countries such as France, Spain, Italy, Belgium etc. I suppose we feel a bit detached culturally.
Francesca Marie "Brits", has Italian name... mind blown.
No, we're British
+Michael McNamara Britain is in Europe, and today we are part of the Union, but historically Britain has considered itself a continent of it's own, we were an Empire remember, American enemies to the left, European enemies to the right.
+Michael McNamara it's an American show
Hugh is fabulous. Loved him on Black Adder.
"'Go back to England' That's actually what I'm trying to do"
Ok many people here commenting on how they talk about Europe seem to forget that :
1) House md was an American show, shoot in USA and targeting first the American ! So the European audience were only the secondary target, that is why in the Graham Norton Show they talk about it with this kind of distance. So it has nothing to do with UK being or not being European. They are just talking about the European market here !
2) Contrary to what many people say, not all European countries speak English. Go to France. The show was very popular, yet it was always dubbed on TV and sadly, you could only watch it in English if you had the DVDs, and then only with the French subtitles ! (not the English ones).
This show was so amazing !
I just don't get how anyone can even like House MD in French... It's rubbish! Hugh Laurie is so talented and funny that people who thought dubbing him would be a good idea should be locked in a basement and be forced to listen to angry germans singing The Beatles hits
Apart form that , Laurie can speak French (and with the good accent), so there is no need to dub him really.
When is dubbing a good idea ever? Hint: it's never. Its the most stupid thing in the history of mankind. Here in the Netherlands House was big, and it translates perfectly cos all they did is subtitle it. It's why reasonable countries that use subtitles instead of dubbing mostly speak English fairly well, it's a great way of learning a language :-)
looove House. It's also one of..well..not that many shows, that are dubbed really well in german, in my opinion at least
+Justyna Moltzahn That's true, his german voice actor is brilliant.
I am not german but speak the language, the german word for "Boo!" is..."Boo!".
This is a funny story, but not as funny when you realize Dr. Hou... Mr. Lauie bent the truth a little to make it funnier!
I had no idea he had such a good sense of humor. I love both his acting and music! As a fellow actor, I hope to work with him some day....
He was hilarious on the TV show Black Adder.
Scott Parkhurst So you're a fellow actor but you were unaware that he made his name as a comic actor and had his own comedy sketch show on TV with Stephen Fry?
I'm offensive and I find this very german!
+galgen kraka I've read your comment because I thought your grammar was bad ( after seeing the first 2 words), and I wanted to correct you, so I could seem smart )).
Thanks so much.
sitting next to hugh laurie, reese witherspoon will get no attention. his personality will wash out hers in a second.
Makes me miss house so much, the ending was so gooooood!!!
Don't judge a book by its cover. So for some weird people in any country, you can't tell that everybody of some foreign population shares the bad attitude of a few. That is ridiculous.
Given their history, it's pretty justifiable where Germans are concerned.
spent 3 years in germany in the 80's and everyone was really nice and can't imagine them acting like that. however, there was a trend amoung some of the younger generation so i'm sure over the years like any country things have changed.
the german for boo is actually boo. also tearing pictures apart and throwing them is not german at all. sounds way to emotional and symbolic. maybe italian or something but not german.
Please don't die this year Hugh Laurie, thank you xx
we have subtitles in belgium its not translated..
+Shaun Van Cutsem Subtitling is translating too ;)
And where do you think the Belgian subtitles come from, Shaun? Fairies? ;)
+Shaun Van Cutsem Of course, since over 70% of your population speaks only arabic, you gotta go with amore "neutral" language in between, like english, instead of those two lame dialects (Dutch, aka poor man's German, and French Belgian)
I wish I was part of that audience so I could raise my hand "YES, I AM FROM BELGIUM!!!!"
That never really happened in Germany, come on!
I love Hugh Laurie, such a brilliant man!!!
Haha does Hugh Laurie know that people in Europe speak a fair amount of english too? :P
Je suis d'accord. Je suis belge et je vis aux USA depuis 1994.
That is not true. I'm from Germany. And he make's just Joke. We're German's are funny. Very funny! Believe me, or we will come to your Country and take over it! ;-)
In the Netherlands, nothing is dubbed. It is always in the original language but subtitled.
Vas Hugh making fun of ze Germans! I do not like it! Ve hav no humorrrr and do do appreshaite zis comments!
Haha! You just made my day!
You guys gave us Henning Wehn! So thank you!
I love that guy! :D
Henning Wehn is fucking awesome! You show great taste in comedy Sir!
Jerome Ohlrogge Thank you. He is a great comic and some of the stuff he does is fantastic, especially related to WWII. Wow, he has balls, and you gotta respect that. :)
Great Great comic.
Why do some Germans and French refuse to pronounce the 'th' sound and replace it with the utterly unrelated zzz sound? I know the English are notoriously monolingual but I would never mangle German pronunciation to that extent though I probably have a strong English accent.
It's not refusal but simple physiology/Linguistics. It takes a lot of practice to produce sounds that simply don't exist in your native language. The English "th" sound is formed by pressing your toung against your top teeth row or inbetween the teeth rows. There is no sound in German for example that is produced this way, hence the problem of many Germans with that particular sound!
I loved house best show ever I have all seasons on dvd
This famous actress named Reese has just been killed.
That joke is so old fell off my dinosaur when i first heard it.
Come on man, I'm waiting for the setup...
With a knife?
hey man I had a good thing going there and then you had to ruin my comedic moment.
With her spoon!
Look at that beautiful jacket Graham has on. He dresses wonderfully.
