This is a good video. I know when the Mesa, Arizona temple was renovated many people were unhoused in a terrible housing market. Granted they did need more parking but didn't need to unhouse like 40 people

A new temple may be built in NW Vegas and its supposed to be 216 feet tall in a rural area. We would like to preserve the area, the views, the light pollution, for families to safely horseback ride, and so much more.

The people of Cody, Wyoming have explored and exhausted every possible avenue to stop the building of a temple. The church has ignored all of their concerns and are moving forward. Now a lawsuit has been. A great deal of information online.

This was after they reversed their decision to let people post:
Thank you “Ask Midway”, for allowing all people, the ability to participate in community endeavors, opinions, concerns and questions. I was asked about my thoughts on the Temple in our Valley. Now that the change has taken place on this platform I am reposting my answers.
I am not directing this quote to any one person or group. This is a factual statement and other people are free to post their own beliefs without the fear of retribution.
”The standard of truth has been erected. No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished and the great Jehovah shall say the work is done.”
      -Joseph Smith, 1842
Let’s Build the Temple how it’s been proposed and where it’s been proposed, and dedicate it to, The King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

A humane expression of the concerns many have. No effort made to stick a thumb in anyone’s eye. Not endorsing a solution or promoting a specific agenda. Not disputing anyone’s property or constitutional rights. Simply asking for a conversation.

Just because things are not going the way you would like does not mean the decision makers are not listening. One thing that is difficult in all of this is that there continue to be lies and misinformation spread and that can feel like neither side or view is being heard. Even in this video, it says that the temple will be twice as high as the statue of Liberty. Well that is definitely not true as the statue alone is 150 feet and with the base it is 300 feet. There are facts and those facts continue to be ignored. There is no way to fight emotion with logic, that is why teenagers are so difficult. The only way to get to the middle ground is to discuss the temple without emotion and that is pretty impossible.

After finishing the video, I don't think it's well-intentioned at all. Comparing the temple to the Taj Mahal as though there is a relevent corrilation in purpose or structure. It's purly compared for the juxtoposition of opulance.

People are not wanting conversation. They're wanting control over something they do not get to have a say. While well intentioned, this is a very poor representation of what is going on.

From the recent letter to Residents of Wasatch County: Concern #4: Why won’t the Church listen to the concerns of residents and build a temple in another location or make it smaller and shorter?
Church representatives have been listening and as a result, there have been many changes to the Church’s initial proposal to help address issues raised by concerned citizens. The 17.9 acre property owned by the Church is zoned RA-1. The use “Religious Activities” is specifically listed as an acceptable use in this zone. Further, the Church has voluntarily agreed to enter into a development agreement with the County which will be recorded against the property to bind the Church to build and maintain both the temple and site as approved by the County Council, which will include protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the public. It’s anticipated that the development agreement will be recorded against the property contemporaneously with the issuance of a building permit by the County. The Church has been operating temples for over 100 years and has excellent data on all aspects of temple use. The temple project has been appropriately sized to accommodate the needs of current and future members in the temple district it serves. The design has elements similar to other buildings and architecture features in the valley, and with its massing and steeple, is an architectural expression of religious faith and is intended to draw the religious adherent skyward towards the divine. A temple is considered a sacred and holy place by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Church reserves the right to design the temple for the purpose it is built- to unite families for eternity through Gospel ordinances.
    ---
When I moved here Walmart was new and was a ghost town. We walked empty aisles. It filled up. This temple will be utilized at its scale. The Church has almost perfect data on who is going to use this temple immediately. The growth projections for the populations it serves are forecast. It can't arrive soon enough for my little family. Serving there will bring strength to persevere in this weird world, and spiritual growth and joy to thousands of families in this valley and the larger temple district as they continue to unite together the tapestry of the whole human family through sacred work there.
My daughter is going to the Provo temple tonight, it will be tremendous for her to dash over to the Heber temple of the Lord. She comes out of the temple almost skipping with lightness each time she goes. My people need this.

@@scottpurvesimagine listening to this whole thing and the response is "look the church can do what it wants and it knows best" completely ignoring the entire point of the video. Mormon or not Mormon I wouldn't want a huge structure that is super bright at night and very tall behind my house and I bet most people wouldn't either that's just common sense.

Not everyone sees the temple as a beacon of light and hope. I once did until I learned of the penalties where people mimicked slitting their throats and disemboweling themselves.
The real dealbreaker was learning about the Oath of Vengeance where people covenanted to kill the ancestors of the murderers of Joseph Smith for three generations.
Throw in a 129 year temple ban for people of African descent and sealing Jane Elizabeth Manning James as an eternal servant and it starts to feel like a hateful and oppressive structure.
It can be overwhelming to some of us who studied the history of the temple and have to endure the seven massive temples in Utah County that take up the landscape of the areas they dominate.
