- When You Need A Sympathy Card Right Now! Use Dandelion and Magnolia Embossing Folders with Foil
Inspired by a beautiful card from Jolanda Johnstone, I've taken her idea and made some variations with different colours and folders! We will be using the DandelionEmbossing Folder and the Magnolia Embossing folder to create a simple, beautiful card, perfect for on the go. This project features our beautiful foil cardstocks as well. It just so happens while I was making these, I got word one of my dear friends had passed away. It's a good idea to always have at least one sympathy card in your stash, so here's an idea on how to easily make a few in a hurry.

I'm sorry I didn't leave a comment earlier. I've watched this video several times now.
These are beautiful cards. I love watching your channel.
Thank you so much!
Very elegant card with great colors , layout and interest…❤️👍
Thanks so much!
What a stroke of luck! Your video came up on my RUclips selection screen this morning and I'm so glad it did! That's a lovely card with a gentle sentiment. What inspired me is the use of embossing folders with metallic card - I'd never thought of it and now your video has opened up a whole new chapter of exploration for me 😃. I have some lovely embossing folders but they don't always look good on white card as a statement, better as a background but this idea pushes the boundaries a bit. Thank you so much for sharing and explaining so well. Best wishes from UK!👋
Wonderful! I'm glad this idea was helpful for you. Also try your folder on vellum - that's also pretty fun. :) x
Very pretty cards! Love the colors together!

Fabulous tips, especially about using Versamark to slightly darken the edge of the paper to add definition and dimension. Will try that today!

Beautiful. I don't know why I've never thought of using embossing folders with metallic papers.
Go for it!
Early morning, Jacque!! I usually don't comment - BUT...I had to let you know how very much I totally enjoyed seeing your video of these 'sympathy cards - which were totally creative - however, what truly 'knocked my socks off'...was seeing you spend a few moments adding 'something to the INSIDE of your handmade greeting card!!! I've probably watched more than a couple hundred video's and how-to's on many folks creating terrific handmade greeting cards, but this is the first time I've actually seen an artist pay even a little bit of attention regarding the inside of their card!!! There have been several times that I've even asked many of my own gal-pals with a small business of making their greeting cards, what have they done to possibly 'glam-up' the inside of their blank cards, but the general answer is usually: 'Oh, I always add a blank sheet of paper inside so they can add their own little message there!' DUH?!!! Yes, I know that, but so many handmade cards look so beautiful on the front, why is it that the inside can't also look like more 'thought or creativity' was also taken with that part of their card??! Personally, and similar to what you did, I adhere a white or off-white piece of blank paper to the inside of the right hand side of the open card, but before I adhere that, I have a bunch of old Martha Steward paper punches that each have a fancy cut-out detail that years ago, many folks used these punches to fancy up their own stationery sheets!! So I have saved those and I use many of them to imprint either a bit of geometric, floral, or whatever stamp design I think looks best onto that otherwise 'blank' sheet of paper I adhere inside of my cards!! You can stamp it on any side of the blank sheet of paper before you glue it down, and then, after stamping my own personal Logo on the back of the card, (along with a serial number for easy filing) I feel quite proudly that I have 'completed' my creative handmade greeting card that would make anyone's day even a little more special!! I would love to see the 'inside' of cards addressed much more often, as it would give me and many other card-makers some more ideas on adding some 'special detail' to that 'little sheet of paper' that we include for a personal message from the Card-sender (who will leave their own sentiment to that greeting card)!! (Let's face it, to send a few greeting cards to someone and their family can be an expensive gesture of Love, so we should make their cards as attractive a card as we can - after all, there are thousands of 'card-recipients', like myself, who make it a point of 'saving' many of their greeting cards; and then, some days or even years later, they pick those cards back up, and they hold them and read and reread them, over and over, as they also remember the many memories associated with each card!!) I apologize for this 'comment' being so very long, but I wanted to send you many, many kudos, for your wonderful RUclips videos, as well as being such a 'Wonderfully Talented, Smart & Creative, 'StampHappyNZ' Gal'!!! I wish even more folks would consider addressing the inside of their cards and then include it in their cardmaking videos like you have done here!!! God bless you, Jacque!!
Hi Carol - I so agree! It doesn't take a lot of effort to bring the design through to the inside, especially when the tools or inks are already out on the table. :) Thanks for your kind comments! xx
Oh Jacque, I'm afraid I'm going to go broke. Every video I watch of yours, I love and think I need to have all of the products. LOL. This card is so elegant and beautiful! Thank you for sharing it with us.
Ha! Thanks for the kind comment, Sandi. Glad you liked this one! :)
The soft colors with the dramatic embossed foil layer is beyond stunning. It's nice to see a sympathy card that isn't black. I will be going through my embossing folders and foils this weekend to see what I can try. Nicely done! Thanks for sharing your recreation.
Thanks, Lucy. I shy away from black for these; I figure the person is sad enough without a dark card!! The idea is to send love and a hug. xxx thanks for watching and taking the time to comment
Gorgeous
Thank you! :)
gorgeous cards

Very pretty card!

Oh I normally get notifications that you're on Live but clearly have missed this one. Using foil is an awesome way to let the embossing folder shine - thanks for the idea! Sorry to hear of your friend's passing. Hugs xx And yeah, bring on Level 1 NZ!!!
Next time! :) Thanks Michelle.
We miss you too Jacque! Lovely cards - thank you for showing us how to use these embossing folders. Cat
You are so welcome! Miss you, too!!
These cards are beautiful! Have these folders and always am looking for ideas for Sympathy cards. Thank you!
Glad this was a useful video for you! :) :)
Thanks for sharing! Gave this card a try tonight and it's a wonderful design for this type of embossing folder.
You are so welcome!
Jacque love the mix of cards used, thankyou
Glad you found this! :) x
New to watch you. I absolutely love these cards! Never have enough sympathy cards these days. Thank you!
I know what you mean. Or thinking of you! Thanks for taking the time to comment. :)
I absolutely love this design. I've been inspired. I have all the materials to make the magnolia card. BTW, I can't imagine that anyone can not enjoy and benefit from the video. Thank you!
Thank you so much! I know what you mean - it always astounds me that some will make a rude comment or thumbs down on a free, informational, take it or leave it, video. Oh well - just carry on and do our best. xxx
I know you did this video last year, but I had the magnolia embossing folder & my card came out very well.
That's great! :)
Very pretty. First time I've seen you do up a card.
Awesome! Thank you! Hope to see you back for more! :)
Great cards, I had never thought of embossing on foil, guess what I’m going off to play with now haha, thanks for the inspiration x
Have fun! :) Thanks for watching!
HELLO Jacque! I happened to just “run across your post” as I was browsing! AND I’M SO HAPPY I DID! I LOVE THESE CARD DESIGNS! Absolutely LOVELY! Unfortunately, I need several Sympathy cards and have none left in my stash! (Which, like you, I like to have on hand!) I DO have the supplies you used in this creation so I’ll be set to recreate them! I appreciate your tips w/the Versamark edging to add interest, using DSP in the same color family as well for added interest, AND embossing ALL 3 pieces as one! CLEVER! I, too, am a BIG FAN of the Champagne rhinestones! :-). For this design, I think the ribbon embellishment is actually more elegant than a ribbon/bow! ALWAYS like doing “something” on the inside of cards, too, and your carryover w/the Dandelion stamp is “perfect”! TFS, Jacque, and HAPPY STAMPIN’ n’ CREATIN’! Have a lovely day! Sending SMILES from Madison, WI, USA! :-))). Not enough time right now but plan to do a STAMPHAPPY “BINGE” in the near future to check out more of your creativity! Again, my thanks! :-))))
Thanks again for such a thoughtful comment! I hope you do make a few of these and love them too! xx
Hey from Kinston, NC Watching the replay.
Hi Dianna!
Random channel discovery this morning! Wow! Love your style and the way you took things to the next level and reminded me of all those little techniques that add so much to a card. I used to be a SU! demo (for 9 years) but had to give it up due to change of life situation and time constraints but still am enjoying some lovely crafting time for myself. Have just subscribed to your channel … feeling like I need some fresh inspiration! Xx (Andrea from Australia)
Hi Andrea! Welcome! Thanks for joining in and your kind comments :) ~ Jacque
Fabulous cards Jacque, I hadn’t thought to use those embossing folders for these cards, I have these 2 (Magnolia 3D, Lovely Floral Dynamic folders) which I found didn’t go with a lot of what I wanted to make but this idea is great thank you so much. I joined Stampinup in January this year and wish I had know about it earlier but hey ho, I’m here now 😂 thanks so much and some of my cards I’m not happy with too! 🌸🌸🌸
Wonderful! It's great how we can share and inspire each other to make use of what we have! xxx
Your card was great thanks for sharing, I haven't seen the image embossing folder before so will have to try and find some information on them.
You are so welcome! Let me know if you need a contact to order them; I would know a source in any country where Stampin' Up! is. :) xx
New sub here. I'm really liking your style of creating. Tfs.
Thanks for subbing! and thanks so much for your kind comment!
Ooh I love this card. Especially the magnolias. I've never really known how to use these folders . I have a stack of them but .... ?? 😂 Thanks this is great!
You are so welcome! Glad you like them! :) x
It's an allium flower very thin leaves, part of the onion family. Dandelion leaves totally different.
Thanks for the info!
Watching replay in The Netherlands. What a beautiful card! Yet another use for VersaMark, other than heat embossing. Thank you for sharing how to use that embossing folder, because I didn't have a clue. It will be in my next order! Could you perhaps do a more masculine sympathy card? Or advise on that?
Good idea! I'll put that on my ideas list. Maybe use the new Evergreen folder for a more masculine one with this idea. Or use a stamped image on the foil (with staz-on) instead of embossing. xxx
