Thanks man. I am an old guy trying to get into guitar in retirement and your way of teaching really resonates with my way of learning! Practical application of the theory. I have done the caged shapes and various inversions of triads, but just taking that and moving from the 1 to the 4, etc. makes it much more practical and useful for future improv. If I ever get there. 😅
i’ve been a fan for a month or two now, and your triad lessons have helped me a lot with the notes of chords on the fret. it is helpful in soloing! hopefully i am moving away from using shape. even though i know what you teach, you help me understand.
Right on maestro! I think I am starting to get triads. I focused just on D major. I found twelve triads - 3 on each string group (root, 1st inversion, 2nd inversion) : EAD, ADG, DGB, GBE, then they repeat after twevlth fret or octave. Easier to think of notes, D, F#, A and how they rotate around each other. (There is some deep math, Abstract Algebra, circular groups happening but not thinking about that now…) I will follow through on the other major keys, as you said, I feel like minor scale triads are just a small interval shape away. I am glad I never learned CAGE system, I have already had a 30 year plateau stuck in the same space! I just want to jam, no more time to waste! Haha! It’s all good! Peace maestro, thank you again sincerely! Feeling good about my progress over this last year. Going to Kauai for a week, will start again when I get back! :)

Awesome lesson tomo thank you so much....Im a little confused,i studied the caged system for the last 2 years and i feel that it has helped my playing immensely,i studied all the arpeggios for major, minor, and dominant 7th cords which unlocks all 5 pentatonic shapes across the fret board all the major scales, all the triads on every string i feel like its a very powerful system if taught the correct way...Guthrie trapp always preaches how crucial it is to know all these shapes and the hand position....Could someone please help me out am i really limiting myself on guitar with the cage system because i thought that learning the caged system inside and out is the secret to really unlocking the fretboard sorry for such a long rant have an awesome blessed day...
You're very welcome! Please take your time. This video lesson is a lightly advanced. So you need to learn a little simple one first. I don't teach any shapes! I teach intervals & Ear Training so that you can play anything as long as you can hear them. So much fun! The CAGED System is a crutch & quick satisfaction but a great player like Guthrie he knows more than those shapes. So totally different depths about that. If you can play freely... then ... Thank you so much! So great to see how you are doing. I am learning!
I am so curious. When you play Major 7th arpeggio, how many fingerings & different strings can you play? If you said ONE... then you stuck with SAHPES! Because how you learn.... Great and inspiring as always, Tomo-san. OK, my next homework for tomorrow. BTW: I never played with a looper before. My whole life. Would you recomend to give it a try?
Hey Tomo, I hope you're doing well! I’ve been really enjoying your content, and it’s been great for understanding triads. However, I’m struggling with remembering the names of the triad inversions (root, 1st, and 2nd) and often get confused when working across different strings. Should I focus on memorizing the notes in each triad, or is there a better method to keep track of the names and positions?
I am doing so well! So happy to hear that! No need to remember them! Be familiar with them with super slow pace & repeat as much as you need! Spend a few weeks on 123 set strings so you only need to learn 3 type inversions. Use your ear more! Do Mi So / Mi So Do / So Do Mi .. sing those notes before you pick any notes.

I’d like to be able to do more but I’m stuck not knowing what direction to go or how to practice
This lesson is about triads! As long as you understand intervals then you are fine! Those folks only learned by shapes then hit the big wall and will stuck! No memorization! For arpeggios, you can simple use triads & add 7th. This way you can play same arpeggios on different positions with different fingering. More freedom later! You can join my Guitar Wisdom.

Hi Tomo! I really want to learn to play chords from sheet music (I want to play with friends) but I dont know what to do. How would you learn the fretboard? Just memorize the notes one by one on each string? What else would I need to know in order to play chords?
I think those sheet music is just chord progressions with chord names. Back in late 60sm early 70s. No RUclips & No tabs! So people would spend their time figuring chords from one song for many hours! This is very important guitar journey! Any simple song... try to learn by ears! Sure someone can teach you a little but you should do your own so your ears will get better to hear more chords, harmony! No memorization! Learn them, be familiar wth the positions & note names. Super slowly do learn only 6th string from open to 12th fret. Then 5th string from 0 fret to 12th fret. Can do you this? Then do this for one month everyday! So you don't need to memorize! You will know them so well by doing many times! Please let me know the result!
I have many theory lessons, strumming simple chord lessons at my Guitar Wisdom. Very affordable subscription video lessons that make you a better guitar player.
@@TomoFujitaMusic thank you! I will try to learn the fretboard little by little and learn a few songs by ear! I think I'll give guitar wisdom a try too! Thanks again and have a good day!
If you know where the 3rd is, you can make any major into a minor just by flatting it. The trick is knowing where the 3rd is at all times. 🙂 That's the part you have to memorize, not the shapes. I'm working on it. Slowly.
If you use tabs then you are not really learning this! This information is all about 3 shapes of Major triad inversions so it's not hard at all! Only these 3 different inversions on top 123 set strings. Do you look for a quick satisfaction now or total freedom later? That's Tabs v.s. Intervals.

Do you avoid triads with open strings?
I do everything possible! Thanks for sharing. Each lesson I only do one topic each. You can a little more
Is this a new color?
No. The original one!
If you know where the 3rd is, you can make any major into a minor just by flatting it. The trick is knowing where the 3rd is at all times. 🙂 That's the part you have to memorize, not the shapes. I'm working on it. Slowly.
Thank you for sharing! Good job! That’s why you should not memorize minor shapes! No memorization! Remembering naturally that’s why you can’t hurry!
With Tab please❤
If you use tabs then you are not really learning this! This information is all about 3 shapes of Major triad inversions so it's not hard at all! Only these 3 different inversions on top 123 set strings. Do you look for a quick satisfaction now or total freedom later? That's Tabs v.s. Intervals.

master fujita, your playing is really magical. I believe if you would connect your sorrow if it by some misfortune would truly come upon you (I pray not, mercy) we would all start crying without control. I believe that so much in you, master.
Let him be light. You can find sorrow everywhere else.
You're very kind! We are all humans. So we all have ups & downs. We all have hard times. Guitar journey really is helping so much! Guitar can make me very calm and humble. Thank you so much!
