Thank you for your inspiring and informative videos. Although I started playing guitar 46 years ago, it was your videos convinced me to learn all the notes on the fretboard, as well as the triads so that I can recall them quickly; WOW, does it ever make a difference! This only takes a couple of months of drilling ~20 minutes a day to learn. I strongly encourage any novice guitarists to go ahead and do this now, so they can improve much faster going forward.
You're very welcome! So happy to hear that! I teach more details lessons at my Guitar Wisdom. I use my RUclips for reviewing things. Thank you for sharing! Triad inversions is so good! Best not write any shapes down! Good job!
Even though I am not an advanced player, I find your teaching and encouragement to focus on the basics extremely helpful. Thank you for your excellent videos.
I grew up in Sudbury MA, learned from Frank at Sudbury Music in the 80’s. and I think it’s so funny i study your lessons now from the internet. It’s like I never left home! Thnx for the ideas. I know caged, but it dawned on me its all triads - just linked up - with the C an extension of D, and G as really extension inbetween A and E - but really all still the same. Then ‘enlightenment’… ahhh. It is good to play with creating the same melodies in all five shapes. I don’t practice without Melody has to have Melody. Have a great day!
Thank you for sharing! You got it! Normally people only think about those shapes & think it's easy then it stuck forever! Once you noticed all these triad inversions with intervals / colors / Ear Training then it's totally different world! Think each intervals! Triads & Major scales! Have a great one!
i dig the way you navigate me hearty, thanks and if you could find it in your heart sometime to let me know about the dim and aug triad inversions and how to practice them, have a good day
You can practice Major triads. Try to play C, F, Bb, Eb on 123 set strings. Then you can change M3 to b3. Then learn 5 to b5 = Dim. Play Major triad inversions and raise the 5th = Aug. So best not to see shapes! Once you know Major Triad inversions then you can play min, Dim, Aug... just changing note.
augmented you take the major triad and sharpen the 5th note.... diminished take the major triad and flatten the 3rd and the 5th note...oh i see tomo told you... someone mentioned learning all the notes and I concur with that ... like if you know all the pentatonic scales then you would know what to flatten (the b7 to 6) to make a minor pentatonic be one with a 6 instead of a flat seven .... almost like a major and minor in one ... sounds pretty good
@@TomoFujitaMusic thanks mate you are a legend, i have just made myself a chart with that info (thinking it might help if i write it down) ....ps i'm loving the triad thing it's so melodic and becoming more fluent thanks to you
I recently discovered you. You're absolutely wonderful Mr. Fujita! But OMG what is that chord you're playing at 17:21?? Crazy position, but beautiful! Thank you!

Hi Tomo, I've been a huge fan for years. I started off as a jazz drummer, and even played them professionally for years, but recently picked up guitar. I LOVE being able to make harmonic statements on this instrument. I understand the CAGED system, and when I'm in a single key, I can find my way around the fretboard. But I've NEVER learned the notes of the fretboard. I know the low E string, but I lose sight of the note names as soon as I start playing. It's like my fingers know more than my brain does. What exercise would you recommend for learning the fretboard? I'm 100% down to drill an exercise every day, but I don't even know where to start. I get note relations, but not the notes themselves.
Thank you for sharing! Thank you so much! Awesome! You need to know Major scale on one string. Need to know name of notes. Otherwise the CAGED is just shapes! Need to know more than that. That's why need to drill some exercises around triads! I teach all the details at my Guitar Wisdom. This way you will save your time!
1) Learn name of notes / C Major scale on each strings. 2) Learn Major triad inversions. C E G / E G C / G C E 3) Learn intervals & sing them Do Mi So / Mi So Do / So Do Mi
Hi Mr.Tomo i'm from Indonesian.. Mr.Tomo I practice every day for 4 hours or more... but I feel there is no change in my guitar playing, and I feel bored... what is the problem in my practice?? please reply to my comment Mr.tomo 🙏🙏
Thanks for sharing! If you have 4 hours, you can do so many things! You need to check your foundation level. Techniques, Ear Training, Triads, rhythm guitar, tone production,. dynamics etc. If your practice start with playing solo with backing track or not using amp.. PC, Plug in... then no good. You can join my Guitar Wisdom. So you understand proper way to learn guitar playing. Thank you!

Could be confusing without some basic open chord knowledges & note location knowledges. Thank you for sharing.
