It’s an absolute shame that humans have not 100% outlawed WHALING. These creatures are amazing.
Yeah some asshole countries still do it but for the most part we've stopped. Humpbacks and other whales have seen a significant increase in populations in recent decades. Very promising.

Sharks, there are accounts of people being stalked and attacked by sharks when Humpbacks step in to save the divers. There is a woman that tells one of the most famous stories about this and she even met the same whale years later in life and it remembered her.

@@philipneisess9588not all humpback whales save humans, some do but not all of them, it’s false narratives like that that lead people to expect these whales to always save them, then someone might get surprised when they don’t, just like with dolphins because people say the same things about them, but it’s not true with them either.

Key word "predator" orcas are pos they deliberately knock baby anything around until it gets exhausted and dies. Sometimes they don't don't eat it just so it for sport
There must have been some sort of treaty agreement between the orcas and humpback whale because very recently the humpbacks have now begun working WITH the orcas to hunt smaller, less mammalian and more mutually shared prey despite humpbacks being hunted by orcas prior😂 like no jokes...

the difference is that humpbacks are mostly in packs of 3 or more and are strong enough to kill orcas, its much more difficult to attack a humpback when there are other 2 wanting to kill you too
It’s probably more accurate to say humpbacks are too agile for orcas, due to strength, and their diving capabilities. A blue whale is too big to out-maneuver an orca

The fact an orca pod was adraid of one humpback makes me wonder what humpbacks can actually do to the orcas

Humpbacks are much bigger then them and have hundreds of barnacles on there fins and heads that make for weapons when rammed
it’s mostly due to size. humpback whales weigh between 50,000-80,000 pounds while orcas weigh less than 10,000 pounds, so even though humpbacks don’t have teeth, a slap from their fins or tails would seriously hurt. also, humpback whales have sharp barnacles attached to their fins that can injure the orcas. an orca would be very unlikely to succeed in taking down a humpback, so it’s easier for them to just find food elsewhere than risk injury and infection.

Orcas have successfully hunted a blue whale. Pretty sure the humpback has some other reason why it feels safe.

Deny your enemy of a food source and they die out on their own. Orcas can definitely kill a humpback, though, there is nothing in the oceans they can't kill provided they have a big enough pod.

They do this bc killer whales take humpback calves sometimes. They intervene to make it as hard as possible to hunt in their vicinity, so the orcas move on to other hunting grounds rather than sticking around. This would be most efficent if the orca were a shark instead bc one dead shark turns hundreds of miles of ocean waters, shark free. Sharks seem to be smarter than orcas in this instance lol.
I wonder if these humpbacks have lost babies to killer whales but still have that natural protective instinct.

Neither revenge nor "altruism" make much sense as explanations. Most likely, the whales seek to discourage Orcas from staying in the area, or to limit their population, because they are a threat or a nuisance to humpbacks and to their calves as well.
