I didn't know Purple Deadnettle was Henbit. I bet the honey bees are loving on all those little flowers.
They are two different “weeds” but medicinally they are the same. (Its purple/red deadnettle he is actually talking about)

That’s not henbit. I have henbit everywhere and my bees pretty much ignored it this year. They’re all over all my fruit trees.
That's Purple Dead Nettle, commonly mistaken as Henbit, the heart shaped leaves stacked up on top of each other is the giveaway. Both are edible 😊
In other news, my bee's y'all sold me last summer are doing phenomenal, they swarmed last week, I caught most of them using 2 frames to scoop them up and put in a new box, within 24 hours the rest found thier way into the new hive and I now have 2 hives. I assume next spring I'll have 4 hives. Much love for y'all over here down the street from Morrison Pool 😊
Dave, I think it's time you plant some high volume food sources like female american holly trees & male holly bushes. Only bumble bees are hitting henbit in my area because the bees are at the Hollys and cherry trees. I wouldn't mow it. They got NOTHING better or they WOULD be on it.
The same thing happened to my bees this year due to early spring start and the trees had not fully opened. My bees were all over ground cover and not my plum blooms. Charlotte NC

They are all over the purple deadnettle and Henbit all over every year here and brings the most beautiful red/ orange pollen. What I haven’t ever seen before is honeybees on chickweed. But they are foraging in my yard everywhere this year.
I thought same about the dead nettle. Have both henbit and purple dead nettle around me. Just heard a talk last week from Jeff Pettis that worked at USDA Beltsvill beelab and is currently head of Apimondia , he said honey bees proboscis is too short to get pollen from henbit. I see my bees on the deadnettle all the time especially early spring and their blood red pollen baskets are neat and easy to see. Thanks for sharing.
my bees are going after my texas bluebonnets. I have millions of them on my land.
Crop fields are full of that now here. Hundreds of acres. Gives a bright reddish pollen.
I noticed the pollen is usually stuck on their head area given how the flower overhands
My bees hit this hard every year in south mo. This and then dandelions. Clovers not up yet
The difference in weather sure makes one want to get away from snow
We have Hens Bit/Purple dead Nettle (don’t know the the difference) but our bees are always all over it in the Spring. Nectar!
Same here in NJ. Another 2 weeks or so it will be out.
