Jason how many acres would you recommend to homestead? I’m looking at 20 acres currently.

Stoked for you. My marijuana stalks are as big as your bamboo and it’s only June 10. We are going to kill it this year. I need some chickens to fertilizer and better quality eggs.

We had bamboo at the house I grew up in that was huge like what your “timber” is supposed to be. I remember my dad always had to pull shots up out of the middle of the yard. The bamboo was on the perimeter and the shoots were always growing up in the middle.

Jason, it's great to see you back on the YT. I thought a Chicken Hawk had taken one of your chickens for a moment. Aquaponics or hydroponics would work great for the hoop house. Epcot has a tour on sustainable farming. Check it out. Stay safe and healthy. :-)

Cool. Chickens. I like them, fried mostly. The fence does no good like you have it. Raise it to 6 foot and trim your chicken's wings on one side. Throws them off balance and they can not fly straight.

Americaunas are intelligent birds. They require big fencing and I’ve gone as far as draping flexible fencing over the top of the run to keep them in. Best of luck.

Haha! Good to know! That one adventure chicken has made it a habit to come to our back porch every morning.

@@SwellRunner we only have 1 americauna, and when she was a fledgling (I think that's the correct term) she was very flighty, so we dubbed her, "Fidget." She is by far the most intelligent bird we have. She comes when her name is called, and she knows she gets preferential snacks from my wife. Side note: I had to laugh when you dropped the camera to show the caliper of your trees and bamboo. No one can understand that excitement if they haven't been a gardener. Welcome to the club and the homestead is looking awesome! I can't wait to see it's progress, and I'd love to know where you bought your clumping bamboo.

@@SwellRunner I use dog kennel panels with cheap chicken wire for a roof over half of it and corrugated roofing on the other half.

@Jason Koertge, I know this might be personal but I’ll throw it out there just in case you’re comfortable talking about it.
Do you have a spinal injury in your neck?
I ask because I have one myself and after 2 surgeries I’m still not able to get out and explore or even dare to go off-roading. It’s been just over 10 years for me now so I don’t see things making a turn for the better but now that I have a little guy I really hope that I can take him camping and share similar experiences like I had growing up while camping with family. Happy to see that you’re coming back…..I just started the video so I’m assuming the title isn’t click bait 😂.

Hey Jason, is Overlanding over? I really like your homestead. I was the chicken guru in South Jordan. Had it goin' real good. First off I didn't get a good look at your set up but you need a hen house that the chickens can roost in. It needs to be at least 3 feet off the ground. The roosting perches should be a bit higher than that. Chickens are super social. They need a safe family room to perch and chat in. At night you close the door to the hen house they feel safe from predators. Try this and see if you don't have happier chickens. Happy chickens lay lots of eggs.
