Zen2 really was the moment when Ryzen sorted the quirks and just became a brilliant line of CPUs. My 1600 was okay, my 3700X is just immense. Nice to see the 6 cores are still doing as good as the day they came out

      For me:
1st gen Ryzen: as with every new endeavor, it was a bit buggy, not much close to Intel at gaming, but everyone knew it would be better in the future (at least when comparing i5 vs R5)
2nd gen Ryzen (zen+): was when Ryzen was starting the mindset, with even better prices, a bit more performance and MUCH less bugs. But still behind.
3rd gen Ryzen (zen2): it was the turning point, when everyone felt safe at switching to AMD. Honestly I felt more amazed with the zen 2 launch than with Ryzen launch!
5th gen Ryzen (zen 3): all around improvement, finally getting the gaming crown, but also with AMD trying to upsell its processors. 5th gen Ryzen told us that AMD would happily become Intel 2.0 if left without competition.
Waiting anxiously to see what 7th gen Ryzen/Zen 4 brings us

Curious. I am considering an RX 6700 10GB. I have a system with a R7 1700, ASRock AB350 Pro 4 mobo, and 4x8GB G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4 3000 CL15 ram. I also have a R9 3900X which I've had for quite some time but not installed since I want to use the Wraith Prism cooler but I'm missing the screws to secure the plastic brackets to the back plate. Wondering what you have in your system as far as mobo and ram.
Edit: Also wondering about your monitor. I'm using a 43 inch 4K TV with 60 Hz refresh rate. What resolution do you run and what kind of frame rates do you target at that res?

Built my PC in 2018 with R5 1600 and 1070. Recently gave the 1070 to my brother as it was an overkill for me and thought about getting a 580 (currently using R7 250 lmao).
You definitely got a killer build there.

thanks for making this post friend. I am driving my 3600x for many happy years now with a 1080ti. Waiting for the 5800x or 5950x to drop in prices when AM5 get launched. what I love most about this CPU is that it runs everything without issues and I always have the option of upgrading to the next generation when I feel like it's worth it. Not really possible with Intel without new Motherboard.
3600 is a price to performance Superstar, proof me wrong.

I used a 3600 for a plex server for about a year, and had it in a secondary pc for a while also. I ended up using in my parents new pc, and they love it. It's still a great cpu that can handle the common day task, casual gaming at 1080p and light editting.

I bought my 3600 at the start of july 2020 (1 year after launch) and still 2 years later rocks. I've been lucky as my chip is a golden sample, and I'm currently running it at 4.25 GHz @1.137V with no problem. I think that it can hold pretty good for 2 more years easily.

I love both my 3600 and 3600x, put a decent cooler on them and lock them at their max turbo frequency and it helps general performance a fair bit. Paired with a 3060 I dont see myself upgrading for a couple more years. Thank you for shining some light on these solid chips!

Bought one at $199 MSRP back in July 2019, still have it running in one of the kid's computers, it's still paired with an RX 5700 that I bought that same year.

Bought a i5 10400F last year to replace my Haswell CPU and the performance gains were insane. Also no longer get micro stuttering.

Rebuilt my 10+ year old AMD Phenom II X3 720BE (I was able to unlock the 4th core so I ran it with 4 cores instead of 3) about 2 years ago when it finally kicked the bucket. Replaced it with a Ryzen 5 3600 back in 2020 for $160 from Microcenter. Still running it today and loving it! Games run great, as well as other non-game apps. My GPU is a lowly GTX 1660 OC but I'm not complaining. Like I said, games run great.

I started with a 1600 when they came out, got a 2600 (sent it back as it was no upgrade compared to OC'd 1600 for me - it overheated maybe a dud) I got my Rx 3500x years ago and it is just a hair behind the 3600 in speed (6 threads instead of 12) and its been great. Paid $135 new, delivered from china when the 3600 was pushing close to $300, so good value. Made a gaming rig for a friend and couldn't help but go for the i5 11400F (6 core) for $175 as a total speed demon and he is thrilled.

I was given one of these all-but on launch day as a birthday present by an extremely generous friend.
    Still proudly using it today.
Pushing a GTX 1080, under a cheap 240 AIO, with 16GB 3600 RAM, an Asus X470 Prime Pro, a 240 NVMe SSD for boot, and a 1T SATA one for my games.
Does absolutely everything I ask it to do, and because I don't buy new games much, will continue to do everything I ask it to for years to come.
.... it's already three years old? Doesn't feel like it!
Then again this was my first true current gen processor since I built a Core 2 Duo....
Was rockin' a hand-me-down FX4100 when the C2D got a little too old to play the games I wanted.
The FX with 8GB RAM and a GTX 470, which was upgraded to an R9 290X (boom) ... uh, I mean, GTX 970 (dead) .... darnit! RX 570 4GB (whew) were still "enough" when I retired them.
Just now I have room to grow and stay relevant for even longer before it's time to finally upgrade again.
Hopefully a meaningful used or New/Old Stock GPU market exists again by then, and I've got tons of options to grow into without even needing a new motherboard.
Though since I don't buy new AAA blockbuster games much if at all, and there's a sprawling market for older or indie titles that this rig is more than capable of running, I don't see myself upgrading again for a *very* long time.
Probably when my hand is forced by a hardware failure.
My finger is on the pulse of that 1T SSD (sometimes hangs while updating games) and the AIO (it's cheap) as being the next causes of longevity concern.

Was looking to upgrade to the 3600 from my 1600af I always new it was going to be a solid chip. Picked up a 5600x instead, got lucky with timing. Great to see the 3600 standing the rest of time!
