    I'm Christian (Not Protestant)!
The real story is that the Pope sent Sultan Murad a letter giving him congratulations and offering to crown him king of Christendom if he became Catholic. Sultan Murad laughed and in response, he sent a cordial message thanking the Pope and informing him that he is a follower of Muhammad and will die a Muslim. This Turkish drama is making it look like a big deal when it wasn't.

Protestantism and Islam entered into contact during the early-16th century when the Ottoman Empire, expanding in the Balkans, first encountered Calvinist Protestants in present-day Hungary and Transylvania. As both parties opposed the Austrian Holy Roman Emperor and his Roman Catholic allies, numerous exchanges occurred, exploring religious similarities and the possibility of trade and military alliances.
The Ottoman Empire supported the early Protestant churches and contributed to their survival in dire times. Martin Luther regarded the Ottomans as allies against the papacy, considering them the "rod of God's wrath against Europe's sins.

A priest, supposedly a Templar, close to Pope Urban, reciting Patre Nostrum in vulgar latin?! Ha!
Idk if this was part of the creative liberty of the series, but there were no templars in 1500 nor there were roman catholic priests praying in vulgar latin. By this time, there were few to no commoners speaking latin, and nobles, merchants, clergymen all spoke liturgical latin, which isn't what he is speaking.

Most Western movies and shows that depict a particular period of Islamic history are rife with historical inaccuracies themselves. Even one of my favorite movies, Kingdom of Heaven, shows Muslim soldiers in the late 12th Century wearing plated mail armour that would not have been worn until the 1400-1500s. If Western media is able to get a free pass for historical inaccuracy when presenting the Muslim world, I think Turkish media should get the same pass when showing the Christian world.

    • @princevimbai1
      @princevimbai1 3 года назад

@Fatema I'm a Christian, but I cannot say anything the crusaders did was Christian or biblically inspired. Correct me if I'm wrong (with emphasis to how their actions align with scripture), but I think - just like a lot of the other so-called "Christian" events mentioned by the one you responded to - it was another case of Western economic self-interest under the guise of piety. Christianity, unlike Islam and many other religions does not give visiting, worshipping or going on pilgrimage in any specific location precedence. Catholicism (which I left due to greatly diverging with God's word) and some Christian culture may do so, but it's not a biblical thing nor something of great importance other than just allowing yourself to get into perspective and see the places, which I can respect and fully understand. In John 4:21-24 (NKJV) it says, *"Jesus said to her, **_“Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”_* The real reason they went on crusades was probably something more along the lines of wanting to secure more reliable access and control of the silk road.
Another example of western self-interest being disguised as piety is how regarding Africa they used excuses like 'we are civilising them and introducing them to the Lord', and yet scripture itself condemns their racist and inhumane treatment of other people. *"For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”* (Romans 10:12‭-‬13 NKJV). They would quote scriptures to slaves telling and teaching them to be obedient to their masters, and yet ignore verses teaching masters to treat their slaves humanely, with love and understanding that they were also made in God's image. These passages often followed each other, so it was not a matter of being unaware, but conscious refusal.
I am glad you came to Christ, but it's important that your faith be founded on God's words and teachings, not the doctrines of men. That's why I commented as I could not bear the idea that you'd be lead astray from your new found salvation by human doctrines.
Keep praying and seeking God, He will surely keep on strengthening you and leading you to salvation. May He bless you immensely, and may He guide you to be a light to others from similar backgrounds as you. God bless 💙

Inspite of this common goal there was no unity among either among Christians nor among muslims. Crazy and stupid monarchs indeed. They could not decide which was a superior choice whether it was their personal ambition or the religion.
If Murad had killed him in the position of caliph or spiritual leader of muslims he had set a very bad example. In fact it is a worse example. To kill someone just because he invited you to different spiritual path is horrible. It's like saying, " my way or highway". That is called fanaticism.
However unlike other religions Islam is too mixed up with politics. It is quite confusing to demarcate political and spiritual angle of it. No wonder it is taking a toll on innocent muslims.

Finally Lorenzo gave some reason for his violent personality to come out and that made him very happy.
Official papal policy was to excommunicate Christians trading with Muslims: but Elizabeth was beyond such edicts. By the 1580s Elizabeth had a resident ambassador in Istanbul (then Constantinople) and consuls throughout North Africa and the Middle East, some in places like Aleppo and Raqqa. Many would have felt safer travelling in Muslim lands under Ottoman protection than Catholic Europe, where arrest and the Inquisition invariably awaited them.

Sadly, Lorenzo did not share the gospel with the Sultan. The gospel is what changes hearts:
Humans do wrong, yet God loves us because he made us. God he provided a way for us to be forgiven while satisfying justice. As the lamb substituted for Abraham's son, Jesus' sacrifice substitutes for us. If we accept it we can be forgiven and born again.
