Great video , again😂, Brian, I am going to be starting to paint my 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 club cab, It’s a maroon color and I already did my hood by following your advise and it came out fabulous! Now I ‘m going to start with top cab top. Is there anyway I can send you a picture of it and have you tell me the different steps? Example might be, in one video you used a roller to put on a base to cover up any bare spots, The top is in bad shape and I’m not sure how far it needs to be taken down. The hood I got from the pick and Pull was in pretty good shape meaning not all the clear coat was gone but I did remove it all and did a primer over all of it then sanded it down and then tack and base coat then 2 layers of clear coat. So, another question might be, When is a Pearl used?
Hey there. I have a car that was supposed to be painted this Eminent White Pearl Lexus color, but did not turn out quite the right pearl effect. I am planning on repainting myself and was hoping you could help me with recommended products and mixes for this color? Again, very new and great video - would just love any secrets you're willing to share. Thank you.
New subscriber here, so sorry if you've covered this already. When I learned to paint, everything was 50% overlap. I went through PPG envirobase class a couple years ago, and they were suggesting faster gun speed, and 75% overlap. You seem to be even tighter, more like 90% overlap. Are you shooting solvent, or water? I'm currently shooting Lesonal SB(solvent)
Hey! I’m shooting solvent sikkens. Pretty much the same thing as lesonal. Lesonal is just the water down version. I like tight overpasses to get good coverage and prevent mottling. You can be taught everything in the world but simply do what works best for you
"Don't screw with this area here", that's some pretty solid advice Brian. Did you do a let down panel to determine the number of coats needed for the pearl?
I have a question. I have a 2006 gs300 color code 062 crystal white pearl. It looks like it have tiny silver metallics in it not alot very little u can only tell it looks like it has them in strong sun light and even then its still questionable. My ? Is does the pearl have metallics in it or do u think they just added it to the clear when they painted it factory. Im looking to paint a brand new bumpers n front fenders and when I look it up they sell like special tall duplicolor like spray cans for the white and the pearl but I dont see metallics in either and there isnt a special clear when you search it just lists regular spray can duplicolor clears. Do they make clears with metallics in spray cans. I wouldnt think so itd get clogged right. Id buy a spray gun to do it with but I'm doing it in my shed so I'm already worried about anything getting on anything in the air with the door cracked and fan pushing outside from in the shed. I no ur prob like Jesus....

Hi Brian, let me first thank you for all your efforts. Your videos are all very informative. I am a designer engineer and DIYer and I really enjoy the details level in your videos. I am learning to get ready for spraying quarter panel on my car. It’s a black pearl Jaguar and I live in the UK. You mentioned in the video that pearl is translucent but when I search for my car paint code (PEL), they all results are black paints with pearl particles. I know this is an old video, but I resprayed a front bumper cover on my 30 year old pearl white Audi a few years ago. I did all the right things, did some test cards w/different amounts of pearl to get a good match and all. Got something I was happy with, went to spray the bumper, and it came out so obviously different than the rest of the car. I was mad, but I decided to live with it and it's still like that to this day. Someday maybe I'll respray the entire car (probably not, haha).
Great video! Just found your channel! Quick question...I'm working on fixing rock chips on a old Lexus that has white pearl paint. You used a white primer (which I'll try to find), but for the base coat being a white pearl, do they just use straight white or will the manufacturer use a specific white that's a custom shade of white? I have some of the pearl top coat left over from having a bumper sprayed, but trying to figure out what I need to put down prior to the pearl coat and if I need to figure out a way to source a specific white shade or if just "white" is all I need. Thanks for taking the time to make all these great videos!
Painting WHITE PEARL for DUMMIES my ass. What you did is illuminate the limitations of your obligatory shade tree DIY'er. I would be a fool to attempt this and to that end your video as usual was chock full of vital information.
Beautiful job as always! This is a paint video for dummies though, of which I admit to being (with painting). What did you spray on the bumper from an aerosol can and why? Thanks
want to re-do, refresh a set of 2001 Audi wheels, with same Avus Silver Pearl (code: LY7J/C2) color. Supplier says this is not a Tri-part application, which I guess means their spray can Pearl is included in the base silver. Current wheel paint damaged from age and chemical cleaning abuse. Some small sections even down to the primer. No room to blend. Have a trunk-spare wheel in untouched condition as a comparative model. Has amazing depth and Pearl affect. Need a planned approach for this project to succeed. Suggestions much, much appreciated.
So I recently bought a 2019 Infiniti Q60 and I somehow overlooked a spot on the passenger side fender, dead center with the the wheel well. To me it looks like they were doing some scratch repair and completely forgot to finish this one spot 😂. So that kinda made me not feel as bad for not seeing it when I bought the car bc they missed it too lol. But they sanded down to the base white and I’m wondering what I need to pick up to fix it myself. I measured the spot and it’s pretty much 6 in x 3 in. All I would need is the colorcoat and clear right? Appreciate by the way 👍🏼.
Hello ,my name is Sergio G Out of Chicago have been collecting items to paint my pearll white 1999 lexus as 300 ( hood only )I'm sure you are familiar with the color, Anywho my questions are basically conformation on my planned out process. I will be getting a new good hood planned to start of by laying a white sealer do I then have to put a white basecoat ? Or can I pay the pearl on the white sealer ?? How many layers of pearl ?? And lastly I would out my clear with a fast reducer again i live in Chicago ( colder) so far do think I have this understood correctly?? I know that's a hell of a question to ask thanks for you time .
I've got a CA Black plate 67 ford Galaxie survivor I just picked out of a barn and shipped to CO. It has 58k miles and is a 100% original wimbledon white car. The paint has some chips and rust bleed trails and I want to paint it. Would i need to prime the paint if i'm using the original color or can I sand it with 6-800 and get the job done. Also with a car this big can I get good results spraying one panel at a time or would I need to walk the whole body when laying the color down?
I have a GS Lexus with the gold color pearl . As far as I know, it's never been in accident. Why would all four doors be the same color as each other but slightly different than the panels ? Surely they wouldn't mess that up in factory right ? It's quite noticable in direct sunlight, kind of annoying if i think about it too much lol.
Brian. I'm working on Red Tri-coat for 2019 Canyon. The pearl is in the 3rd stage but has red colorize the base red. Do I treat that 3rd stage as an effect and not a wet bed? Light coat not as close to panel? Thx, Troy
G'day Brian!! Discovered your channel yesterday and quickly subscribed. You have an exceptional teaching style, makes it so much easier to learn a topic which can sometimes seem a bit intimidating. But like you say, "it's only paint", right!? ;) Quick question for you please mate... I'm getting close to spraying my Kawasaki ZX11 with a toyota colour called "Dark Furnace". it's like a deep dark slightly metallic maroon colour. looks black in the dark. My question is, i have some Red Wine pearl powder which i wanted to add, but i dont particularly want to do a full pearl metallic look in the clear over base. Can i add some pearl to the base colour to enhance its depth or redness etc? can that make it just "pop" a little more? 🤔🤞 And yes, definitely going to do a 'slow' clear over top, as its extremely humid here in Oz.
You might be able to enhance the depth of the color a little but i would Recommend testing it out on a junk spray panel or spray out card First to see what it looks like. You don’t want to dirty up the color too much with too much powder

Welcome!
Hey Brian love your lessons sir. Keep the great work.
When u spraying the pearl.u mention u put clear 1st to see if it match..does the clear still wet when u put the pearl?
10.49
Completely dry. It was dry 5 minutes after I sprayed it.
@@PaintSociety woah.. that was fast.5min..i guess there's a lot of things i need to learn..thank you..
By the way.do you have a video that repainted a whole car? I would love to watch it..
Paint Society question so first coat is just regular clear like the one you use to finish a paint job right.
Thanks
I have a f150 paint code UG want to paint the chrome bumpers door handles and grill, but using aerosol can spray paint any tips? Thank you
want to re-do, refresh a set of 2001 Audi wheels, with same Avus Silver Pearl (code: LY7J/C2) color.
Hello ,my name is Sergio G
Out of Chicago have been collecting items to paint my pearll white 1999 lexus as 300 ( hood only )I'm sure you are familiar with the color,
Anywho my questions are basically conformation on my planned out process.
I will be getting a new good hood planned to start of by laying
a white sealer do I then have to put a white basecoat ?
Thx, Troy
what grid sand paper u use for pearls.
U should do a video with black base and pearl. Wouldu blend that aswel?
G'day Brian!! Discovered your channel yesterday and quickly subscribed. You have an exceptional teaching style, makes it so much easier to learn a topic which can sometimes seem a bit intimidating. But like you say, "it's only paint", right!? ;)
Quick question for you please mate... 🤔🤞
And yes, definitely going to do a 'slow' clear over top, as its extremely humid here in Oz.
You might be able to enhance the depth of the color a little but i would
Recommend testing it out on a junk spray panel or spray out card First to see what it looks like. You don’t want to dirty up the color too much with too much powder
What Acura dealer you work at in Florida i worked for Coggins Honda Acura in otown. And classic chevrolet as a vette tech dealing with all the factory super car paks in all of classics autogroup
I going to do a motorcycle tank this is a great video not sure what color am going to use yet it will be awhile but eventually I will paint it have to get running first.Thank you for this video!!!!!!
Man I love your work...
I have learnt so much...
Please keep up the good work and keep the page alive!
Thanks so much!
Great video. So, I'm putting pearl over urethane basecoat white and want to add pearl. Is there a particular white pearl I need to use? Is it premixed or do I need to add it to something. Thanks
Hi brian,do you have any video tutorial on spraying different pearl colour like gold pearl over nardo gray solid paint?im struggling to lay it right, like air pressure, distant etc ,thanks
Do you know of a way to use any auto paint color on a engine? High heat enamels exist but not available for every color code. Will high heat enamel primer allow for general auto paint?

Do you ever have yellowing issues?

Say I want black but I want purple and gold to shine through
Or white with pink and blue shining through
I’m doing a go kart project this summer and I’d like to know for when it’s time to paint
Thanks for doing this video! I do spot job repairs && this helps me soooo much cause there tends to be a halo when painting spot jobs on pearl white.
What’s the mix ratio do you use for base coat and pearl coat ? 1:1?
We are not dumm we just new to this thing am I right then like this comment thanks 🥰😍😘❤️❤️🤩🥳🤗😀
Anyone else have trouble with paint code 077 when doing bumpers only????
so whats the wet coat just water?
edit: sooo whats the pearl coat? just a pearl mix is that just like a in a can i can buy or i gotta mix my self so i guess im dumber then the average bear
What spray gun is being used in this video. (I get back to every comment) 🤔
Does the spray distance change if you not color matching? Spraying pearl for the first time?
If you have a oem white paint job that doesn't have a clear can you paint a pearl based clear straight over the top?
If so what would be the best way to prep it?
I’m sorry. I haven’t heard of an oem paint job without clearcoat ?
@@PaintSociety sorry, I meant as in a car with a factory white paint job. The white is straight off the gun with no clear over the top. Just polished.
So you mean a single stage? You would have to scuff. Base and then pearl
I just layed down some white pearl solids on a guitar that's getting black pearl next tiger stripes
U got new subscriber from 🇲🇽 I learn a lot from you thanks ✌u good bro I wish one day I can paint like u
