Boys State and Nation ‘24 Alumni here! the week that “shapes a lifetime” definitely does, and I will never forget my experience. Thank you American Legion, coming from the Bluegrass State, Kentucky.
Thank you to Tom Brokaw for recording his endorsement of the Boys State program. Although each state's program does differ, each program provides a great opportunity for those that are selected, attend and apply themselves. Tom will alsways be the "Gov".
Boys' State Oklahoma 2006. I was nervous at times (we had soldiers yelling at us). But what I remember the most was the feeling of comradery between the members of my city and the unity of the people. We had this massive game/obstacle course/mud fight/competition/talent show which lasted for an entire day. There was this incredible feeling of solidarity after that day. We also had a huge charismatic convention (albeit slightly reminiscent of the Nuremberg rallies). I didn't want to leave.

How's that work for a state to run a state that kids run and the tax payers money pay for this place
The same way any aptitude-based summer camp works? You say this as if they are actually running a state
