But with X, Y, sun and moon, as well as the ultras, there is references to the dad
Wade Conroy ok didn’t know about that relating to XY but in my opinion unless that away dad has some impact on a character over the course of the story or if he’s mentioned more than just the one dialogue chain then they ain’t that involved. It’s like sure Izuku Midoriya has a biological father, he’s referenced once or twice in the entire plot thus far, never bloody see him, but do we really see Hisashi Midoriya as Izuku’s dad? Frankly we probably see the relationship between Izuku and All Might as a father and son because he’s actually *there* helping Izuku with his quirk, goals, and life advice.
Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon has references to the busy father, the mother even migrated the Car from Kanto in order to run errands.
This literally changed my perspective on any and all ghost types

Gastly are humans who died choking on poisonous fumes and when they evolve into Gengar many decide to try and kill other humans to make more Gastly so it can have a friend to ah g out with. Honestly being a trainer to a Gengar might be the best thing because you can show them they can have a friend without killing people.

To be fair, being a pokemon must be pretty cool in its own right. I'd be stoked to have the power to create dark orbs, conjure spirit flames, float, be able to use actual hypnotism, conjure rain at will, etc. And that's not including the ability to maybe achieve a more powerful form that has multiple arms!
Let alone have the effectiveness to ward off other Ghost types that try and drag you to the afterlife.

This is why yamask is one of my favorite pokemon. The possibilty of catching your dead relative and use them to battle other pokemon is amazing.
