This series brings me back years ago when my brother and I were getting back into comics. We were reading books like 100 Bullets, Locke and Key, Gotham Central, Y the Last Man, All Star Superman, anything Brubaker, and so on. I really enjoyed reading Ex Machina and own them in the oversized hardcovers. I’ve always been a fan of Brian K Vaughan; he’s always writing super interesting stories. Also, the Tony Harris artwork is incredible.
I enjoyed this series quite a bit. BKV’s great characters and dialogue really drive it along, and Harris’s art is always fantastic. If you like a superhero-meets-politics story, this is for you.
I was first introduced to Tony Harris’s work when I happened to pick up a copy of JSA: the liberty files. It made me an instant fan of his. If nobody has read it. I think it’s a highly underrated jsa/elseworlds story.
I found this about 4 years ago at an absolute bargain price. Had no idea what it was like but the price was so good I had to grab it. At some point I will be physically strong enough to actually pick it up, hold it and read it. This is the first review I have ever seen of it so very interesting indeed.
Thanks for the review as always! I hope DC can be more open minded and listen to what the community really needs. Authority omnibus reprint is much more in demand than other wildstorm classics.
I started reading this digitally but I might end up getting this. I love everything, absolutely everything that Brian K Vaughan writes. My favorite comic writer by far.
Would you say this and Saga are better than Y? I tried to get into Y The Last Man, but I couldnt really stand the MC. (even after getting as far as to the twist explanation to explain his odd shenanigans) Do you think that’d be a way to tell that I probably won’t like these either? Or is the kinda ‘dont listen to people/do my own thing while recklessly smugly risking it all’ kinda protag a consistent thing with Kavanaugh’s stuff?
Thanks for the excellent review. Have not read this story but am now intrigued. Omar, will you be reviewing the Superman Warworld Tpb/Compendium? Haven't kept up with the current Superman books but am very curious about this one. Thanks either way.
I regret reading this mostly in digital. Been since on the fence if I should also buy the Analog Comic. But this is one heavy book😅 The way you describe the story is spot on. Political thriller is just one thread within the fabric. Vaughan can make strange ideas work. In fact if I’d read the plot idea before buying I’d skip this completely. It’s a silly premise. This was a blind buy for me bc I liked the art. It’s one of those stories that are hard to explain as there is nothing similar to compare to.
Omar thank you for the Animal abuse info, i am not down with that and no matter how small i could never tolerate it so i very much appreciate your thoroughness in you book overviews 👍

Now it is time for Transmetropolitan Omnibus.
Just absolute vol 3 😁
Starman

It’s BKV so u know it’s great. I loved it
@@bernielockard1827yes loved his Saga so looking forward to this now I’ve seen more of it in the review.

you're a ghost int he machine, huh, pinoccio?
...
oh, you mean the COMIC was digital.
nvm.
One of my favorite books. I need to reread this again!
One of BKV's best work along with Y the last man and Saga. Tony Harris delivers with his art as always. Such an awesome story!

Happy for anyone looking for this and getting their copy

Grat story.
I can't see why anyone actually reading the story would consider the Ombibus a upgrade over the Deluxe editions 🙂
man, I always wanted this book. very interested in Brian K. Vaughn
I've got this all in trades. I don't remember if I've finished it, but it was really fun. Maybe aí should catch up
Good art. Solid story. I sold my OHC's. I just didn't think I would ever read the series again.
Pass for me
Great review. I actually have the VERTIGO version.
I see you caved. You didn't want the omnibus before 😅.
I commented before watching. I see now that you did mention it.
Is Ex Machina a story worth rereading? I'm budgeting for a house and my Omni choices have been limited to only stories I can see myself revisiting.
Absolutely, I've just finished it an hour ago, absolutely amazing!
It's highly rated but not for everyone. I tried it and did not get very far at all. It's not for everyone.
Wildstorm and Vertigo should still be separate brands

👍🏻
Day 3 of asking for a wolverine reading order!!
