Guys I realise I’ve just pulled up the seed potato. What can I say, it’s been a loooong year! I’m sure you are all used to me making mistakes by now, it’s all a part of learning 😂 (Please keep comments kind. I didn’t do it on purpose, it was a genuine mistake. No need for any rudeness. It’s Christmas after all 😊)
@emmasallotmentdiaries 🤗👍...your little "faux pas" are what make you so endearing and makes your vlogs so watchable! We all have to learn & grow! Please don't change! 😁
@@emmasallotmentdiaries I just had the same with my potatos was worth a late try from August planting they didnt get a chance flower so wasnt expecting anything.. nothing lost . You did a great job hitting 😆 all those brambles down Emma . You should build your foxy a hut hes looking for a bed 🤣 love you energy making me excited for the spring .
Bless you for carrying on when things got tough this year for you. It's been great watching you and enjoyed it all. And you have made me laugh so much.❤ Thank you. X
I adore your plot, your lovely wildlife, your experiments, your childlike curiosity and joy of it all. You and you sharing these....it's such a blessing. 💞 Hang in there, it's been a hard year for us too. 🫂
I only discovered your vlog this year, along with a few others. Yours is the only one I keep up with (apart from Charles Dowding). I love the fact that it is a diary of life on the allotment. Always inspires me to get my boots on and go off to mine.❤
Great video Emma as usual - thank you. That will be a great space for a greenhouse - just brambles at the moment so what a win that will be. Someone gifted me an 8' x 6' greenhouse - I dismantled it to bring home - but it's still in about a hundred pieces in my garden - but I shall build it 🙂 - one of the many jobs on the list. I love the idea of Christmas themed videos.
I’m a new gardener and I’m loving watching your content Emma! I have a decent sized home garden now that I’ve moved house so I’ve binged all of your videos since you got your second plot and it’s actually sad that I only get one to watch at a time now! 😂 I hope the holiday season will bring you more joy than challenges (because it can be a tough time of year).
My understanding of using fleece is it shouldn't be touching the plants but provide a pocket of air that isn't as cold as the outside. Still may not be enough for winter potatoes in England. I have shady areas in my vege garden and I use them in the summed to grow things that don't like it too hot like lettuce and peas. If you raise the bed depth for drainage it may work better. That is a lovely fox.
As an American, I'm always fascinated by watching anything British, so film what you like! You'll have one member in the audience. (Just kidding - you look to have quite the faithful following here). For your shady area, I wound up with an unexpected shady spot in my back yard due to a neighbor. So what I've been gradually working on is a shade garden. I don't know what flowers would work best for your part of the world, but I've found some lovely ones that work here. And many herbs and leafy greens also can manage quite well in shade. I think of it now as part of my extended pollinator garden.
Hi Emma ,so sorry to hear your year weren't okay,I've been following you for the whole year and never missed one vlog,u inspire me to be a better gardener ,Thank you from the bottom of my heart ..watching you all the way from Cape town ,South Africa.
Emma I love watching your allotment vlogs and I love that you counted your seed potatoes as an actual potato lol but to be honest please keep doing what you're doing because you are the inspiration that I need to go over my own allotment every day, so thank you Emma and keep on going and I will look forward to hearing from you very soon ❤
Thanks for the video Emma. As always you inspire me to carry on prepping my plot for next season Your major efforts last year prepping your 2nd plot will forever be my inspiration too. So enjoy your channel 👍🤩😻
Just a suggestion but what about a layer or two of horse manure in between the greenary on the compost pile !!!!! Keep up the great vlogs you’re doing brilliant
I wonder if the fox could smell the mouse that you thought might be in your shed. I grow my lettuces and brassicas in the shady spots in my garden. They love it on a hot summer day. You are lovely, keep your chin up
Those are the seed potatoes that you planted. Large potatoes like that don't just appear single file, they all grow roughly together. Tiny nodules ( tubers) grow on the roots. They then swell into potatoes. In summer you would see lots of pea sized potatoes by about 2 months.
Hello from Bulgaria, I love watching your progress on the plot. I have robin envy each time one of your Einsteins appear so close to you. We have them but they flit off as soon as they see movement. I love your enthusiasm and drive, you are a natural on camera. Happy allotmenting (I invented that word just for you 😉) xx
I'd be tempted to keep those beds that didn't work in the same layout, but build them up. Taller raised beds and try potatoes in them as they'll get better airflow and not be as wet. It's what I've done in my more shaded area and it's worked a treat
Hiya Emma recall the time of Bloody Fox Pink Jumper my suggestion which you gave me a shout out. Oh how time does fly? As always enjoy all your visits Thankyou. Blessings luv southern Ontario Canada 🐝🇨🇦
Hello from Manchester Emma. Einstain was much more friendly. This one just started to trust you in a similar way Einstain was. I think this one is Einstein-Fandango or just Fandango. I like watching your vlogs. I got my first allotment in Manchester this year. Sometimes I like to see how the gardening is going at the same time in the warmer part of the UK. The last Saturday I did compost my sweet pea too. I lost many of them at the beginning of the season too. Next year I will try to harden them a bit longer or I will try to sow my own. Maybe they were too comfortable on a supermarket shelf. Nice to compare the changes after the first frost. It looks similar between Manchester and London so far. I know a bit of theory but have no practical experience. Thanks for another 'welcome to my allotment' video 🙂
Hi Emma Dolittle, Animals can sense a good person and feel safe around them. Good to see you attacking that jungle at the back of your plot. A lot of hard graft, but worth it in the end. All good material for the compost bin. I'd tear the cardboard into smaller pieces to allow you to fork the top of the heap as you add it. The reason for that is, there is a good chance that the fresh material will root and take over the bin. Your last video, you mentioned that people were telling you to leave it alone. DON'T LISTEN TO THEM. If you leave it, and those weeds take root, you will have created a nightmare for yourself. So keep chopping it small and forking it over. What I'd do is, double up on the black cover you have lined the bin, with cardboard to give it extra insulation to retain the heat.
Yes Emma a greenhouse!!! Love this and can’t wait to see it, my advice is get one as big as you can 👌🏻 I’m going out foraging maybe today for wreath materials too 😄
Snowwhite suits you! I was wondering if the fox was trying to catch a mouse in your shed? Or even better for you, eating spiders 😂 I would love to see a greenhouse on your plot. That space would be perfect! Let's hope Santa brings you one. You are very kind to the woodland creatures 😊
Hi Emma! I think u have a hard time growing things, becauce of the trees on your plot. They take all the sun and nutriance and water away from your veggies to grow. I think if u get rid of them. Your maby future greenhouse wont be at risk of falling branches. And your veggies get lots more sun and food and water to grow
Guinea pigs both died a couple of years ago (they were 7 and 8 years old) Pippin the house rabbit is happy and hopping around my Christmas tree right now 😊 🐰
I know other commenter have said this, Emma, but if you kind of crush the meal worms with your fingers as you sprinkle them on Einstein's board, it will make them much easier for him to eat.
If the fabric cover is touching the plant it will still get frost on it, in my experience. I always try to leave a gap between the plant and the fabric.
They are the seed potatoes you planted, the two you pulled plant them In a pot cover with compost and keep in a frost free place and early next year harvest, Feb/ March. Harvest when the weather gets warmer., even those in the ground you will not get much of, if any harvest it’s too cold for them to grow, leave until next year before harvesting.
I forgot to say... I grew spuds in a hay bale one year. Our plot got a load dumped for free. It was good, and the hay mulched down and made great soil. 😄
That is just the seed potatoes, just put them back in and put the plastic over in a tent form. Mulch them up. I think it's OK to feed birds in an area. They are not going to harm you. Feeding bigger wild animals like foxes will create problems though as they then associate food with humans and bite to get it. They might not bite you but a child holding a sandwich. If you do feed them. Feed the away from your shed and rather leave the food for him to find instead. That way there is no direct association.
Start a little bonfire every time u visit and burn a bit each time it will soon clear x remember when u cleared the new plot u did it a bit at a time start clearing like u did then, it will look amazing and it will keep u warm while u r doing it xx
There might be a local burn ban which means she can't do that. We have burn bans where I live, even in the Winter, when humidity is too low, brush and grass is too dry, and winds are too high.
If you’d like to see a real life potato miracle you should try the film faith like potatoes. ❤️👍 it’s a true story and don’t worry you won’t be preached at Potatoes grow in South Africa in drought conditions ❤️👍
Don't feed the fox as it will cause you big problems later on. Fancy feeding the robbin mealworm then the fox . He's not a tooth pick for the robbin I did laugh . Happy Christmas 🎄

Please don't encourage Emma to feed or house a fox they are destructive and she should be chasing it each time it arrives on the plot.
What a beautiful healthy looking fox on your plot. Thanks for feeding them.
Love love love your vlog, my heart soars when I get to turn your you tube post on every 3 times a week. Thank you so much for doing it.

Are they not the 'seed' potatoes that made the plant?
Thats what i was thinking.
You really need a green house. I do hope you can get one. It’s the best way forward.
They are 😂
Yes, they are.
😅😅😅....yes 1 frozen seed potato!
Thats your seed potatoe tfs🎉🎉
yeh I think you've pulled up the seed potato which isn't good to eat
So glad you are sorting out that part of your garden, the greenhouse will be great there.
Emma i actually love watching your vlogs on your plot and the fact that you dug up your seed potatoes made my day please keep up the good work ❤

Emma, you have been an inspiration to the new plot holders on our site this year...
Hi Emma you are an inspiration to us all sending hugs 🤗🤗🤗🤗lv Irene 😘 xx
Brilliant vlog today. Love watching you on your plot.
Hey Emma, 🙋🏻♀️ you can grow lettuce, chard, beets, radish, mustard, spinach, carrots, leek, cabbage, arugula, etc, in your shady spots. Cindy🌱
Just a suggestion but what about a layer or two of horse manure in between the greenary on the compost pile !!!!!

I love christmas vlogsxx
Try lifting the fleece off the leaves of the potato plants. They go black where they have been touching when it is frosty.
I'd be tempted to keep those beds that didn't work in the same layout, but build them up. Taller raised beds and try potatoes in them as they'll get better airflow and not be as wet. It's what I've done in my more shaded area and it's worked a treat
Sorry to hear you have had a hard year. I have been watching for a few weeks and the vlogs are always fun but 3 a week is a lot for you x

Hi, from a fellow Mancunian ❤
Great vlog today, as always. Love your robin. Sorry this has been a hard year for you. 😢 You hid it well.
That sounds lovely Emma some nice ideas
I love your vlogs Emma ❤ I have tried twice to grow potatoes for Christmas in my polytunnel in buckets covered with fleece & got nothing 👍
A really good way to tidy up your allotment would be to buy a PETROL STRIMMER. Whatever shears do ,a strimmer can do in seconds.
A beautiful fox 🦊 is visiting my garden as well. I've seen him only on the wildlife camera because he's very shy.
I think that if you don't let the fleece touch them they do better, you need little sticks to hold it up

🤗👍...that's the potato you put in! 😂😂😂
Correct, one potato planted one potato pulled out, net gain zero.
Sorry to hear you had a tough year 😢. Hope next year will be better for you 😘
You need to keep the fabric up off the plants. Use your sticks to keep the fabric from touching the plants leaves.
Yes Emma a greenhouse!!! Love this and can’t wait to see it, my advice is get one as big as you can 👌🏻
I’m going out foraging maybe today for wreath materials too 😄
If those seed potatoes that you pulled up look healthy, see if you can keep them in the dark until the new year and replant them .
Really enjoy your vlogs always thanks❤
Lovely video! Yes, please take us along if you go to other gardens. I found the garden pot again😊
❤❤❤

Tubers are looking ok 👍🏼
Beautiful Fox 😍
Your welcome 😊
Emma luv, they are the seed potatoes that you planted 😅
What did you name the scarecrows?
Hi Emma, yes would be great to see your visits to other gardening events, still luv your allotment blogs, How are the Guinea pigs and rabbit?
Guinea pigs both died a couple of years ago (they were 7 and 8 years old) Pippin the house rabbit is happy and hopping around my Christmas tree right now 😊 🐰
@ ❤️
Cute fox . They do like meal worms and peanuts
Ignore the mean comments, honestly how do people have time for that?!
Hope you have a lovely run up to Christmas ⛄
I know other commenter have said this, Emma, but if you kind of crush the meal worms with your fingers as you sprinkle them on Einstein's board, it will make them much easier for him to eat.
I’d just leave the potatoes!! They’ll all come up next year
Those potatoes are what you planted.
Leave them. Xx

I realised that once I got home, but thought I’d post this anyway and see if anyone noticed 😂
Hi Emma, I love your vlogs! Aren’t the potatoes on your small plants the “mothers”?
Bless you Emma, they look like seed potato’s
I know. Realised it when I got home! 😂
Would the fleece on the potatoes be more effective if it does touch the plants? I noticed ice on top of the fleece ❤
Maybe the fox can rid of the spiders for you 😂
Mr fox is on the lookout for a nice juicy chicken coop .
I've never had success with winter spuds...it's a scam. Might grow in buckets in a green house or poly. Don't eat your seed potatoes! 😂😂😊
I forgot to say... I grew spuds in a hay bale one year. Our plot got a load dumped for free. It was good, and the hay mulched down and made great soil. 😄
A Petrol 2 Stroke Brush Cutter will chomp through those brambles.
Fox likes goofy too
Love your videos get cat food for the fox 🪴💐🦊🐦⬛☘️☘️
👍👍👍👍
That’s the potato you planted !? X
Emma ,how come those nails have reappeard on Enstines bird table , I saw you knock them down the other week .
No idea???!
In all fairness to the fox, he was probably just looking for the mouse in your shed. Let him take care of it next time?
Emma sorry to tell you but i believe your potatoes you harvested is the original potato you put in so really you only got your potato 🥔 back
Hat is your seed potato x
Perhaps you'll get a greenhouse for Christmas.
Brassicas can grow in shady areas.
How much is the rent for 2 plots in London?
Those are the seed potatoes
Isn't that the seed potato you planted?
It is! lol x
One Potatoe in as seed and one Potatoe out now could it be the same one ,I wonder😂😂
If you put a bunch of straw over the potatoes, they'll be fine.
I think that's a sweet potato you put in
If you’d like to see a real life potato miracle you should try the film faith like potatoes. ❤️👍

Emma foxes need food not worms he may be the fox you gave jam janwiches toox
that's the seed potato, i feel actual second hand embarassment for you, and that's coming from someone with an anime profile pic
Haha! Don’t feel too bad, I make mistakes all the time. It’s been a loooong year and I make a lot of videos! 😂
