She changed my life….bought my first house aged 19 and my own business 20 years later. Her policies enabled me to do this. I worked hard and it paid off. Unlike my parents I was able to work my way out of a council estate and avoid factory work. She enabled me to have choices. The best prime minister in my lifetime.

If Lady Thatcher was a bad leader, why could she win THREE the general elections? She maybe didn't do what we want, but she definitely did what we need.

The Tories are financed by big, but corrupt / fraudulent corporate companies...Financing their election campaigns...Being exempt / excused then getting away with paying little, or NO TAXES.!! Reason why Amazon / Starbucks / Vodafone/ Marks & Spencers / BSKYB, to name just a few big corporates have been "cooking" their books for years = Tax avoidance / tax evasion...Examples of how corrupt / deceitful / fraudulent politics are mingled into the heart of this massive cover-up...The devil is in the detail = Financial terrorism...So better to keep the devil you know, than the devil you don't !!

Trevor Alfred Labour loves tax evading companies too, to fund their coffers, wasnt that long ago, that blair was sucking up to everyone, till he messed things up with murdochs wife, but all too late he has made millions out of his former pocession, while we have become a much poorer nation

She was an “Iron Lady” alright. Ihav’nt lived in the UK since Macmillan was PM. But she was admired around the world. I believe that if anyone else was PM in 1982 they would have twiddled their thumbs and nothing would have been done. Politicians can’t please everyone but everyone needs to get out and vote! Here in Australia voting is compulsory and all elections are held on saturdays so there is no excuse for anyone not to vote. $50 fine in you don’t.

Hey, Will! Thank you for recognising Margaret's positive attributes. She was, indeed, a remarkable woman. Sadly, men within her cabinet, who should have known better, played the Brutus card and stabbed her in the back - not appreciating her role in bringing the USA and USSR to the bargaining table and ending the cold war. The Russians, admiringly, called her the Iron Lady. Such a great description as to who she truly was. Alas a majority of my countrymen, who were not even born at the time, cynically, pour scorn and vitriolic comments upon her memory - pity them! For, they do not know what they say!
    Kindest regards,
    Bill

Controversial? Yes. Did I agree with her policies as an American? No. But did she seem like a nice person? Yes, after all she was a good friend to my 2nd favorite President Ronald Reagan of whose likes we could use in our world. Not to mention she was one of if not THE first woman to be British prime minister who clearly had good relations with her fellow politicians. I think this was a good tribute to her, nothing too big like a state funeral but big enough to get the message across.

Many times I do not agree with the way they do things but we seem to follow their example. I wish we had a Margaret Thatcher. Don't know the name of the first march played by the Band of HM Royal Marines but the second march, played by the Band of the Scots Guards, is "General Mitchell" ...
The Guards Bands tend to mix their Drum Majors around, and, yes, the Drum Major leading the Band of the Scots Guards is indeed the Grenadiers Drum Major. He has a certain proud swagger which looks quite good, not in a Military way, but just looks impressive all the same, unlike the Drum Major leading the RAF Band, who just doesn't march in a Military way at all. It just looks stupid. (Sorry, RAF Drum Major)

      1:12 is "General Mitchell".
13:33 is an arrangement of Beethoven's "Marcia Funebre"/Funeral March from the tragedy "Leonore Prohaska".

@13.00 onwards, i'm told that it is the funeral march no.1 but it doesn't sound like it at all. Can someone confirm the piece played @13.00. Thanks in advance.

If you're still wondering after 7 years, I can tell you it's Beethoven's Funeral march from Leonore Prohaska, last movement. He also used the same movement in his 12th piano sonata nicknamed Funeral march (3rd movement), of course written for solo piano.

As for Hillsborough, I could make the same argument about your experience in the Falklands. But I won't, because you have something more than news reports to go off. It's the same here.
She should have done a HELL of a lot more. As prime minister, she had the power to demand the truth be exposed, commission a decent and just inquiry and have those responsible prosecuted. Merely standing quietly is not enough from the most powerful person in the country.

One: The National Coal Board closed the pits but it was Scargill who made the industry unmanageable (being paid by the Russians who wanted to damage our National Security) and therefore many of the pits uneconomic. Wilson and Callaghan closed pits but we never hear about that do we?
Heartless? She wrote personally to every single family of the 250+ killed in the Falklands and asked after them later. No I don't recognise the woman you describe and none of us who went out there for her would.
