    Except Sony's basic display technology is _not_ Triluminos but *IPS LCD*. Triluminos is just a technique they're using on top of *IPS LCD* to expand the color gamut. The basic display category is *IPS LCD*.

      to be honest it's hard to tell unless yo've seen it in real life
      what I've seen so far is LCD3 in a HTC One is better than amoled in an s3 and s4 but I'm not sureif it's just me but the s5 has some really nice colours
      my uncle uses a z2 and the reds in that are extremely vibrant but I my friends z1 I'm not sure it's ok but I haven't seen it enough

  • @basicthinkingtv

    yes viewing angles are important and I have no idea what you are trying to complain about. We compare 3 display technologies in a real life situation

  • @semiborejon1976

    I agree. Samsung Galaxy S series has a very good LCD display. But when it comes to movie and images, Sony still wins because of its Bravia Engine which enhances and brilliance colors. As I have recently using Sony Xperia Z and Samsung Galaxy S3, I still prefer Xperia Z when taking photos and videos. All I can say, I might be lucky among the rest who purchased Sony Xperia Z, since comparing to other same unit, my Xperia Z have better quality colors when it comes to display.

  • @SweetHandsUp

    also how hard is it to sync all 3 devices so that they play the video at the same time..

  • @basicthinkingtv
    @basicthinkingtv  11 лет назад

    well I am one of the reviewers and I guess I am obviously blind then. Maybe I am just too independent and don't care about the pr-spin manufacturers are giving me. We took plenty of high-resolution pictures and analyzed them in terms of color-saturation and the differences are almost not measurable. But I am happy to see your review of these 3 devices because frankly I don't think that you've had a chance to try them out

    watch our Video at 1080p and you will see what I am talking about. The differences are so minimal and this is exactly what I pointed out in this video. We never ever claimed that the Xperia Z Ultra has a terrible display but in terms of color saturation and especially when it comes to black, the S4 has the edge over it. But when it comes to a clean white background, the HTC One has the edge. The Triluminos technology is a huge step forward for Sony handsets..

    Just a brief information for the noobs: IPS, retina, triluminos and slcd3 are all LCD displays, the main difference is triluminos uses a different method of backlight LEDs, IPS is a layer used to reduce viewing angle reflections, SLCD3 also has an IPS coat. Each company give their displays an alias as to sounds unique.

    especially after they released the Xperia Z with one of the worst LCD displays in a modern smartphone. It is absolutely nonsense to say that the display of the Z Ultra is the best display on the market. It has advantages and disadvantages and that's what we pointed out. Trust me, I just don't care if you prefer Sony or not. I am sure that I am using their products since you were even born. I care about technology not matter who builds it!

    The dark-outs, the bluish tint, the unreal contrast ratio that otherwise doesn't exist in the real world, the lower luminance level and the deterioration in the AMOLED panels are the main reasons why I personally prefer the LCDs and especially the IPS LCDs over the AMOLEDs. Triluminous might become my next favorite but that only time will tell.

    • @darkangelss6sic6
      @darkangelss6sic6 11 лет назад

      maydangerous I think many people get that confused when comparing to LCDs because even their dark greys show a lot of light where they are darker like they are supposed to be. The result being that the LCD shows a lot of light in these areas.

    I don't need crazy big resolution.Also I don't need to feel let down by viewing angles.I look in front of it all the times.I don't look it sideways unless it was someone else's phone.

    AMOLED also has the potential to save or reduce battery life. In AMOLED, Black's are dark and nice because those pixels are actually turned off. So displaying any bright color wastes more battery than blacks. Also, AMOLED has burn-in, so any image that is left on the screen constantly will make the image "ghost" in the background.

    The review isn't bad at all, I do not understand the comments about your voice (voice is very OK, your English is very good too for a German, no issues here) or about the review quality (if the displays are equal in quality, where is the problem?) but I kind of wonder how the S4 display is as bright as the HTC One display in sunlight because I have both and the S4 display is darker and you can barely recognize something on it in bright sunlight.

  • @umerkhayyamkhan1114
    @umerkhayyamkhan1114 11 лет назад

    I wonder why when they talk about a "washed out" screen they tend to overlook the "dark-outs" present in the so called "Super" AMOLEDs specially. By that I mean to refer to the details these displays fail to show, simplify or shall I say "dark-out" in the darker areas (e.g. foliage, black/brown hair etc.) in their pursuit of becoming a high contrast display.

  • @StygianStyle
    @StygianStyle 10 лет назад +1

    AMOLED is meant to optimize contrast. LCD might look better in sunlight if it's brighter, but in a dark room the AMOLED will look amazing. You can't appreciate OLED technology unless you see it on a large screen in person with the lights turned down. OLED is the next step in screen technology. LED, plasma, and LCD are going to become obsolete.

      @d0nj03 9 лет назад

      Martin Hoch
      I would rather have modern flat panels that don't suffer from burn-in effects like ancient technologies like cathode ray tubes used to, thank you very much, so I'll go with IPS over AMOLED. :) Not to mention I care more about maximum brightness (IPS strong point) than maximum darkness (AMOLED strong point) since I use my phone in intense light far more often than I do in total darkness (it's not like I need to sneak around watching movies all night without disturbing a roommate or something).

    • @chrischoy9
      @chrischoy9 10 лет назад

      Yousef Sultan Nooooooo, are you suggesting that a display is more realistic than real life?
      The Gamut on Super Amoled is not even as wide as what you'd see in real life. The problem is more to do with over saturation

    • @OverCoder
      @OverCoder 10 лет назад

      chrischoy9, no, you got me wrong, we all know that all the screens of any type won't be realistic as real life, but what i meant is that AMOLED has really different gamut that the Sony one, and while Android displays an sRGB image, it will Look a lot Over saturated, while in sony it will be more realistic, plus, if AMOLED was that nice, many manufactureres including apple and sony will use AMOLED instead of LCD,, btw LCD is much better in terms of readability, especially when the DPI is low

  • @Ohmz_i
    @Ohmz_i 11 лет назад

    i think sony took this one by a bit, it had more colours where lcd would either mix colours and change the contrast or amoled would make it look black.
    sony screen had more colour and brightness.
    then slcd because it atleast had proper colour and last is amoled because it makes everything look black when its not exactly black.

    Triluminous isn't marketing stuff. It uses a technology known as quantum dots physics. It uses a pure BLUE LED coated with an optical color block which contains quantum dots of RED and GREEN. The blue light excites the quantum dots to produce accurate RED and GREEN wavelengths in addition to the original BLUE wavelength. The end result is wavelengths of PURE color spectrum/reproduction. Also, seeing is believing.

    In all honesty when i see a super amoled display i religiously believe it looks like crap. Its like comparing a Plasma TV to a LED. The LED is so much brighter and the colors are not true as compared to a plasma. Which is the same way i feel as Amoled to an IPS/SuperLCD3 or Triluminous. Amoled focuses on Vibrant effects to the point that Orange and reds look similar side to side. Again, This is my opinion. Main reason i would prefer Galaxy S4 Active because of its IPS display as opposed to the regular S4 with the Super Amoled.

    For me the Xperia Z Ultra is the winner mainly for the wider color gamut/range although I think that a more appropriate comparison with the S4 and One would be possible when a comparable sized screen i.e. the honami is put up next to them. I can't say much about the viewing angles though since I haven't seen the Z Ultra screen in person. However if it is any better than any phone from the previous generation of Xperias then I am more than OK with it.

    I said that different technologies behave in a different way when it comes to viewing angle and that includes LCD and OLED (present in mobile tech). I compared 27" monitors with 27" monitors and TVs, pointing out that a TN panel unit (with poorer viewing angles compared to an OLED for example) can have much better IQ and speed than any other display in its price range. Quality ≠ Viewing angle

    Super AMOLED Technology = 100% increased brightness, 441PPI, infinite contrast, deepest black levels, best viewing angles
    Super AMOLED is a very new technology and will be the main technology powering new TV's in the year 2016.
    AMOLED panel technology will phase out LED LCD panel technology starting from 2013.

    Triluminos is just marketing stuff. What is it actually and who made it? VA, IPS? Sharp, JDI, Samsung?

    Hey guys, I would LOVE if you did a review of the Oppo Find 5 (maybe even demo CM 10.1 on it? :P)

    Preferences aside they all look nice...
    But if you want to get down to the technology and facts nothing can beat the new Super Amoled tech of Samsung like S4, Note 3, and S5.
    The advantages those displays have over LCD just dwarfs them. Plus the Note 3 reaches 660cdm in direct sunlight when in auto brightness. That dwarfs almost any phone out there with exception of a select ones.

      that display not good coming from Samsung super amoled its still a LCD sony's have a better display sony goes beyond 660cdm the auto brightness is very slow at times special when the memory on the cell is full it sucks and I had all Samsung phones I been testing s5 and note 3 still the same from s4 just cpu upgraded that's all

      henry samuels First off....I'm not even sure of half you said.
      Amoled is AMoled. It is not LCD. It's an entirely different display technology.
      And no. The Amoled display has many more advantages.
      And no again. THe Sony most definitely does not go beyond 660CDM. It does not even come close.
      And the S5 and Note 3 were some of the biggest upgrades to their older versions there are. Others are even smaller updates.
      You need to learn facts not your opinions.

      @henrysamuels1989 10 лет назад

      yes sony does 660cdm on the display.one that of s5 and note 3 facts u have our a little twist on info yes it upgrade from they old phones look ITT and other university took apart amoled and said its still a LCD with a few changes to give it improve images and the company them self said when it came out the new LCD amoled also I have note 3

    • @darkangelss6sic6
      @darkangelss6sic6 10 лет назад

      henry samuels No Amoled is Amoled. Not LCD. They are entirely different.
      And I could be wrong and Sony might have a screen that bright...Though I doubt. Regardless it is much more reflective and the perceived brightness of the amoled being much less reflective is a lot better in sunlight

    • @henrysamuels1989
      @henrysamuels1989 10 лет назад

      yes amoled is more reflective in sunlight

      And white is displayed just like how it should be! not like IPS LCD washed out white
      But I've heard SAmoled displays are orgainic and they die out eventually :(
      I'm using an SAmoled device and that thing scares me

    @march280386 11 лет назад

    this is 100% true actually.. it even works since the s3 and note 2... you really need to be under very bright sunlight to be able see the difference.. no it's definitely not an urban myth..

    I owned Samsung galaxy s7 edge. And the display is no Match with Sony's triluminous display. SAMOLED sucks compared to triluminous display in terms of color accuracy and viewing angle.

    The One is the winner in my book. It has the highest pixels per inch. Blacks aren't nearly as important as whites, and it has better speakers. I hardly ever use my phone in direct sunlight, and when I do, how deep the black is, is of no concern to me, I just want to see whatever is on the screen. I watch movies on my phone indoors. If you watch movies on your phone outdoors, that is a little weird. To each their own though.

    This said, I am fully aware of the fact that the AMOLEDs are the future tech in displays and all the manufacturers are desperately wanting to adopt it, still so far I think the opinion in general is a bit too biased in favor of the AMOLEDs.
