    You're channel is great. I would like to make a small suggestion. You are using "in previous conversation" when "previously in the conversation" could be more accurate. "In previous conversation" sounds like "in a conversation before this conversation" while "previously in the conversation" refers to an earlier comment in the same interaction. I hope I don't sound rude. Thanks for posting so many helpful videos.

    • @yiminchinese
      @yiminchinese  4 года назад +2

      good question, unlike 了, 的 is always about a detail in the past, either is about the time, the place, the way, with whom, so it's to emphasize an specific aspect and detail in the past. eg 他来北京了。 just he came to beijing. 他昨天来的。 to emphasize that it's yesterday that he came. 他一个人来的。 he came alone, to emphasize "alone"

    Yimin, I love the hard work that you put into you lessons. However, there are times when you ESL breaks down as in the case here with "clothes" this word is spelled with the "es" ending but the "e" is silent, not pronounced. Only the "ths" is used to say the word. It is almost like saying "clo-ths" similar in sound to "those" in saying the final four letters of the word. I hope this helps. I just found you posts while looking at another Chinese language site. I've never tried to learn Chinese before, thinking that with, the nearly billion characters in the language it would be too difficult to learn. I'm 72 and have lots of time on my hands now so, I've decided to teach myself 17 new languages, Chinese being one of them. I'm joking, of course, about the number of characters. It only seems like there are that many. Xie xie! Yimin. I hope that is your name? I would hate to offend you.

What does 的 mean in these sentences? After watching this video, I found out that 的 had appeared at the end of many different sentences when I read.

    • @yiminchinese
      @yiminchinese  3 года назад +1

      thanks for being so nice Apple Pie, haha, and very good questions, I will answer the 2nd question first, 我不只会打篮球,我还是篮球校队的呢, here the 的 is the third case in the video, to make a "的phrase", both of you and listener know what you are talking about, so instead of saying 我还是篮球校队的队员呢,you omit the 队员 part. and the first question, 不要担心,我们一定会找到弟弟的。 here the 的 is not in our video, as I say, the video is just the basic and main functions of 的,but 的has so many functions, one of them is being a function word to enhance the intonation, we normally use it when we make promise, or show your determination, so in your sentence, you want to ensure the listener, that you surely will find the brother, so you use 的 to enhance it .

    I like:
    我是做衣服的.
    So, if I wanted to say:
    "I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn, and a king"
    maybe I could say:
    我曾经是
    表演的
    乞求钱的
    盗取的
    写诗的
    服从的
    统治国家的
    :-) :-)

      yes you are right, you got it, only some words have better and more casual way to say it, like 盗取的,you would rather say 偷东西的,more nature
