I'm doing Masters of Data science in Australia too and was on the same boat as yours. I also applied for master of nursing from QUT as it doesn't need any background in healthcare. Although I backed out and still doing masters of data science because 1. There's always a chance that it will be added to sol list. ACS will be the assessing authority of data science now. 2. Time: I don't want to do new course again from the scratch. Rather than that we can do PY and apply for skill assessment on that basis. 3. I know few people from data science degree who got pr even though they were NOT working as data scientist. Because you need related occupation in sol list. There are plenty : web developer, programmer etc. - Still it's a good decision if you really wanted to shift from data science. Best of luck 🤞

Aarzoo, it's good you stuck to the same field but kindly don't mention the PR thing as multiple are changing courses or not even enrolling, making it tough for genuine students.
I am a Data Scientist myself with 6.5+ years of experience from India. Applied for PR (in the process now). Data Scientists specifically can apply under NEC (Nowhere else classified) category. Although by tweaking it a little, one can apply within ICT Business Analyst. Applying it within ICT Business Analyst is better as it has more number of seats for PR than NEC. Always like your videos😀.

I will say rather than course it all depends on job roles and description as that is what ACS will check. Your job role should match one of the ANZSCO coded role. I know my seniors who got invited in 2022-2023 round and worked as data engineers and scientists. While preparing for skill assessment you only need to request your manager to change your title so that it cloesly relates to one of the ANZSCO coded role. Like a data engineer can relate to analyst programmer or developer programmer and a data scientist can relate to business analyst. This misconception has been there for a quite long time even when I was studying 2 years ago and even at that time I knew seniors who got PR as data analysts. At the end of the day ACS should find a major component of degree in ICT and your work experience should relate to what you studied. All the best for your journey if anyone is reading this!

@@karishmaaggarwal9563 Sorry I am not well versed with oppurtunities after MBA but everything depends on your skills and how you present yourself in interviews. Unlike India where there is placement drives in last semster you won't find such opportunities in Australian Universities. Some universities like mine was Monash University provide help with resume building and guidance on how to find jobs in Australia but everything is upto you on how you land a job in Australia. Nothing to be scared of, you just takes sometime and patience!
After doing all these what if the course you are choosing is removed from the PR list in future ? Its always good to choose the course which you are interested in not the one which is in the PR list . Australian government can change their rules any time they want so its good to look in broad perspective at least u will learn what u like and if we are good in something we will definitely get job anywhere.

I think you should apply for 491, 189, or 190 visa rather than spending too much amount on study. I am curious because i am also a software engineer and doing job as a developer.
