He's broken. He's beaten. His son hates him. He threatened his wife over the phone so that she wouldn't get a hard time from the police. His brother in law is dead. His money, everything he worked for, is stolen or sitting uselessly in a barrel in the middle of nowhere. Everything he's worked for is for nothing. He's finally done. And then... Elliot appears on TV and publicly rubbishes his intelligence, his genius, his accomplishments. And suddenly, that pride, that ego, that ruthlessness, is back. He's Heisenberg again, one last time. Best scene in the series.
Also one more thing to add to all of that: the fact that his product is still out there. His formula was stolen and is being cooked without his permission. Hearing that his blue meth is still out there and knowing how prideful he is, that had to have gotten to him the most I'd imagine.

He may have poisoned a small child as a psychological manipulation to get a mentally abused teenager to cook meth for him, but at the very least Walt is a decent enough guy to leave a tip.
After watching the serie I started realizing how my teacher doesn't know anything about chemistry and how much she is bad in explaining it.. sadly, this is the truth
Things that are amazing about this scene: - Walt's reaction when he sees Gretchen and Elliot telling lies - The main theme that slowly creeps in - The fact that they sent four quite heavily armed police officers to arrest Walt - That Walt payed for the drink
Ben Chabane it was mostly Heisenberg taking over at that point the accumulation of both personalities taking effect Walt realizing he could use both of them as a stepping stone to give his children the money but to also stop the production of the Blue Meth if that bartender never turned the channel Walt would’ve been caught by the cops because he would’ve have had no inspiration to anymore to get the money to his kids
Cash on the bar adds so much badassery to this scene. So many episodes we saw Walter handling problems out of panic almost like a fight or flight response but in this scene, that cash shows how he became a cold-blooded criminal. This is the exact moment Walter White becomes some cash.
I absolutely love this scene. Using the main theme as a the background music was perfect. Gretchen is literally describing how Walt broke bad and has ceased to exist past that point. The show was literally about to end with Walt getting arrested and giving up. A rather anticlimactic ending for such a complex villain. Gretchens little speech reminded him that there is no Walter White left, only Heizenberg...and Heizenberg goes out on his own terms. It's in this moment that he comes up with the idea for the final episode. He realizes how he actually wants to end this nightmare he started.
I'm pretty sure whoever watched this show with great passion had goosebumps over this scene... Just the main theme itself is enough to create such feelings.
DionManiac It was stupid he got scot free. Breaking bad is basically written like this Walter white does something stupid that will kill 99% who go through similar situations. Comes out untouched. Walter white should have died in season 3 its absolute bullshit!
This is my favourite scene of the entire show. The way the theme song is building up and then hearing the intro theme itself here at the end of the penultimate episode like saying "let's do this one last time"... Goosebumps every time I watch this
+Johnny Collini Holy shit. ME TOO man, it was AMAZINGLY done!!! But theres a lot of scenes in Breaking Bad that were done so amazingly too, like when Walt tells those two meth making amateurs to stay out of his territory. THAT moment was awesome because it symbolized his like full transformation into Heisenberg. All in all this was the best TV show aired on television and will remain in the books for millenia.
@@charlesferdinand422 what's your issue with people saying they like a great show? Are people only allowed to criticize it? That's kind of hard since the show is a masterpiece.
Part of what makes this scene great is that its the first time the main theme was used in the actual show. It just wouldn't have had quite as much impact if the theme was used before.
His family hate him. He nearly lost all his money. He was about to give up, turning himself to the police. But Gretchen's words triggered him and he just cannot accept it. So he decided to "One last time" to be Heissenberg and end it all once and for all. And Bryan Cranston potrayed the expression perfectly. From sad to angry. Walt fucked up, and Gretchen and Elliot didn't remind him of what was taken from him, but rather what he impulsively threw away. Walt didn't like being reminded if he fucked up, just ask Mike. Also, Walt, at that point, was a wanted man who was suspected for serious charges so are we really going to blame Gretchen and Elliot for not saying they used to work with a criminal on live TV? Natalia Bobeł Breaking bad is a good show no doubt, but its importance is overstated and it’s pacing and character development is just unbelievable in most cases; the ego of Walt is just fucking insane and in no way can I believe someone whose supposedly so smart can’t foresee his own downfall. This is the guy whose a genius at chemistry and can rigged together random things in order to make poison and homemade turrets, and yet is incapable of checking his own limitations? Seriously. Let’s also remember that they destroyed 3 cartels and Gus’s cartel only consisted of some random Hispanic dude, one black guy and mike and his 9 informants? The entirety of a 100,000,000 dollar meth operation. (Not including whatever other drugs they were selling.) and by simply killing Gus Walter got away with it? A lot of the story is just bullshit and makes little sense from a in world perspective. So many people want to lick the asshole of breaking bad because everyone else does it without standing to question it.
@@Dorkeydaze there's no reasoning in your comment , the main reason breaking bad is considered incredible is because of its importance to details and it is incredible , this is coming from a guys who likes complex plots and no one could have overseen the downfall , the whole point of series is for downfall to happen , if not there would be no breaking bad and yes Walt got away with all that because he left no evidence , if you paid attention you'd know , no matter the scale of operation , he never left any trails so he got away

Dude I just realized, Walter has a mother. How does SHE feel after finding out her son is perhaps the greatest criminal mastermind in American history?
The fact that they used the theme song in this moment as if it says “yes, this is what it had all been about.” His pride and his feelings of being unappreciated for his genius, it was what led him to do everything he did. He wanted to become the best at something, and he got what he wanted at a steep cost.
Breaking bad is the rarest case of master TV. Not only is Vince Gilligan responsible for the existence of this great show, but also the people who directed, wrote, and produced the elements for each episode. The music, symbolism, storytelling, and connection with the audience are all because of everyone who contributed to this creation. Congratulations.
For some reason, Vince Gilligan massively underused music in the 'Breaking Bad' series and preferred to use colors to signal emotional states except in this specific scene. The way the main theme is used there is so good, it gives me the goose bumps even after all these years. Walter White was about to give himself in and then he saw Gretchen and Elliott on TV and then in the blink of an eye, he knew exactly what to do to achieve his objectives; get the money to his family and free Jesse Pinkman.
To this day, I'm still not sure if Walt really wanted to free Jesse or if it was only a side effect. I think he only came back after Jack's gang for vengeance and to make sure they wouldn't attack his family.

@@riotrecker8978 You can't use music in every scene for any series but they could easily have used it 3 to 4 times more often in Breaking Bad and good musical choices would have considerably improved the final result. I can think of another scene where music did improve the result and that's when they used the super large magnet to destroy Gus Fring's laptop. A somber type of music could also have been used for the 'this is not meth' scene. Perhaps something like The Portal by Origami Pigeon (here: ruclips.net/video/m5xnKAk7Lc8/видео.html) Two series where a lot of music is used and it lends very well to the experience are The Alienist and The Expanse.
I always skip the opening titles of any shows after seeing it for the first time. But with Breaking Bad it's so short so why bother, and after each episodes you become so familiar w this tune. And than they hit you with it one unique time at this moment. Perfection. Thank you Vince

Walt was ready to turn himself in just as Saul told him so but seeing Elliot and Gretchen undermining him reminded him he's got unfinished bussiness to deal with. This scene is awesome, showcasing the theme as a "one last ride" for Heisenberg.

After breaking bad it truly amazed me. So anyone want to watch a new series then try Money Heist. A must watch. If you have never loved your professor you gonna love the one in it for sure.
Gretchen was the catalyst for the entire story. She was Walter's lab assistant at Gray Matter, they fell in love, got engaged, and everything was fine, but she inadvertently triggered Walter's massive inferiority complex simply because her family was wealthier than his. Consequently, he dumped her, sold his share in Gray Matter, and cast himself into financial and professional ruin. Gretchen was, in a sense, the center of the entire story--- everything Walt/Heisenberg does is compensation for the inferiority and shame he felt years ago with Gretchen's family.
Is this actually confirmed? I thought that the reason why Walter left Gray Matter was because his baby with Skylar awa Walt Jr. was coming soon and he wad low on money.
0:37 I genuinely felt so bad for him. This wasn't Heisenberg. He had literally called the cops to turn himself in and just seemed content in what he viewed as his final moments to enjoy a drink and watch his old friends talk about the good old times, back when they set up Grey Matter together. And then even that is denied to him once he hears that. They deny everything he did for them to keep their cash flow going. Walt might've sold out because of his own insecurities, sure, but nobody had the right to deny him the credit of his contributions. When he looks at them and hears it, it's almost like he was entranced. He was just happy drifting into the past, happy to remember what they achieved together and see it brought to light so that the world might have some small measure of what Walter White was worth, and then they rip him out of it and deny him everything again by saying his contribution to their billion Dollar industry ends with his last name. Those kinds of actions created 'Heisenberg' in the first place. Those actions did it again here.
@@inhalemusic8926 Incredible that I can explain exactly how and why he turned down that path to begin with, and your childish good vs evil view just chooses to ignore it and goes "he bad". Reminds me of that animated sketch about the IPhone 4. Didn't matter what the rest could do. "I want the iPhone 4." The whole point is that people like Elliot and Gretchen made Walt who he is. Be nicer to your peers. Try and recognise the good in them. Because with your mindset, odds are you've got a Heisenberg brewing in your own life.
What really hurt Walter in this scene wasn't Eliot saying he only contributed the company name (which is obviously false) it was Gretchen saying how he changed and isn't the same man she used to know (which Walter deep down knows is true). Walter didn't leave Gray Matter because they scammed him, he left because he couldn't stand working with people equal to him, he has a pathological need to be superior to the people in his environment. He declines their help later on for the same reasons - he'd rather make drugs with his former not so bright student than accept help from people that are on par with him. It all comes down solely to his pride, cowardice and ego.
@@tamonekicofi I have to disagree. His bearing changed when they denied his contributions, not when Gretchen said the kind man she knew was gone. Yes it clearly agitated him, but it was more the final drop. The heartbreak was clearly them saying that the extent of his contributions was the name of the company. I think you're making this far too black and white again. I remember back in 2013 people praised him as a hero. Now we're in 2022, which seems like a different era, like the world flipped itself upside down, and everyone is suddenly a psychologist overusing the word "ego" to describe him as a supervillain as though it's that easy. As I said before to InhaleMusic, it's truly fascinating that everyone loves a show this much for essentially only featuring grey characters, but are themselves far too imbalanced to see both sides and instead use that grey area to project whatever color they want onto so they can have their good VS evil. It's either someone is a hero like Hank, or literally Hitler like Walt. Incredible. I'm tempted to blame the MCU. People didn't need their heroes and villains cut so clearly before it went so big. You're like children.
1:26 the quiet yet impactful bass setting up for first note at 1:32 really elevates this scene so much, it gives me chills every time and Walts face, determined, he still has work to do God I love this series
I picture maybe at like the third to last episode or something we see Saul walk into an unknown building and as the camera slowly pans out, we see it’s the famous office from BB and the theme is playing right as we realize what it is.
This show had the dark ending it needed to have. Gretchen and Elliot go from offering to pay for Walt’s treatment to lying about his contribution to Gray Matter Technologies on national TV. Naturally, Walt threatens to murder both of them and forces them to give his drug money to his kids. The only happy ending was Walt freeing Jesse, which is exactly how it should be. This show had possibly the best ending of any show I’ve ever seen.
I like how even though they distance themselves from him by downplaying his contributions (which is totally understandable) they still say some good things about the person he used to be.
JamieCH that is such a minuscule thing that people seldom pay attention to for someone to make such a fine point on. It could represent his unfinished business, but it ultimately doesn’t because it more than likely got poured out moments after the police left. We don’t know because it wasn’t important enough for any more screen time.
When I was starting to watch Breaking Bad, I got a lot of spoilers, but not this scene. So, that scene was one of the only times I really got to enjoy the show, and I love it.
It's so cute how he actually leaves the money to pay for his drink. "I wouldn't want to storm out of here without paying. That'd be against the law and I'd never want to break the law"
It's hard to argue which scene was best because there were so many basass scenes, this certainly evoked a feeling of anger in the audience, like..."Kill the bitches"! Glad that it was WW who visited G+E and not heisenberg... ;)
NoobMaster 69 No it’s not. Oh my fucking shit; everyone sucks breaking bad off likes it’s the holy grail but there are so many plot holes and character inconsistencies that just make it a pain in the ass to watch. Maybe try reading a book and studying history every now and then. Story’s like beef king bad fall flat in comparison to real cartel story’s.
I didn’t even enjoy much of this show apart from watching Saul, Mike, and especially Gus (was very excited when they were so prominent in BCS), but this scene gives me chills each of the many times I come to watch it again.

@@Ch4rlz_ThA_Princ3the scene in BCS when Gene ran off when the old aunty catches his lies is just as good, maybe not as tense as this one.
@@rohitsharma1901 that was a good scene but cmon now, guy!? As good as this!?
Things that are amazing about this scene:
- Walt's reaction when he sees Gretchen and Elliot telling lies
- The main theme that slowly creeps in
- The fact that they sent four quite heavily armed police officers to arrest Walt
- That Walt payed for the drink
-The napkin shaped like a swan because its his "swan song"
Sigurd Torvaldsson I think there are only 4 cops because it’s like a small town, IDK
Alberto31 If he did this in a bar in like New York, FBI and SWAT would have came to the bar within 5 minutes
-That they were normally armed cops
-That you misspelled paid

Also, Walt, at that point, was a wanted man who was suspected for serious charges so are we really going to blame Gretchen and Elliot for not saying they used to work with a criminal on live TV?

Let’s also remember that they destroyed 3 cartels and Gus’s cartel only consisted of some random Hispanic dude, one black guy and mike and his 9 informants? The entirety of a 100,000,000 dollar meth operation. (Not including whatever other drugs they were selling.) and by simply killing Gus Walter got away with it? So many people want to lick the asshole of breaking bad because everyone else does it without standing to question it.

Perhaps something like The Portal by Origami Pigeon (here: ruclips.net/video/m5xnKAk7Lc8/видео.html)

Heisenberg mode ON
0:37 I genuinely felt so bad for him.
Yes but for the better this time because he decided to save Jesse.
He poisoned a child
@@inhalemusic8926 Incredible that I can explain exactly how and why he turned down that path to begin with, and your childish good vs evil view just chooses to ignore it and goes "he bad".
Reminds me of that animated sketch about the IPhone 4. Didn't matter what the rest could do. "I want the iPhone 4."
The whole point is that people like Elliot and Gretchen made Walt who he is.

You know it's serious when the show's theme song plays in a scene
Bojack Horseman is another example of this
Can we take a moment and praise Dave Porter. This scene would have been tasteless without that intense music.
Yeah no one is crediting him enough. He is barely mentioned anywhere.

When I was starting to watch Breaking Bad, I got a lot of spoilers, but not this scene. So, that scene was one of the only times I really got to enjoy the show, and I love it.
SAME!!!!
the memes really ruined the experience of new people who watch this show
It's so cute how he actually leaves the money to pay for his drink. "I wouldn't want to storm out of here without paying. That'd be against the law and I'd never want to break the law"
+Blake Walker no, it's just unnecessary attention
what're they gonna do if he doesn't pay? call the police that are coming 60 seconds anyway, who are in the middle of a national manhunt anyway?
Blake Walker unable him to hide from the police, because they wouldn't let him leave unnoticed if he didn't pay
they missed him by seconds and he seemed isolated anyway, but we're splitting hairs here
Cute?
I keep watching this scene over and over, and it keeps giving me chills.
Walt at this point, more dangerous than the Salamancas and Gus Fring
@@millabasset1710 You're god damn right!
Walt: hey could you change the channel there?
Bartender: nope sorry the game is on
*police bust in and arrest Walt. Series over*
Lol heisenberg would've forced that bartender to change the channel.
@@samatar6852 we change the channel when I say we change the channel
@@doggogaming3429 I’m the one that changes the channel.
@@redvice6210 you’re goddamn right
This sounds like a "What If Breaking Bad was made by HBO"
Cough* cough* game of thrones
You can clearly see how much angry Walt was after seeing that Elliott's ears have actually gotten bigger by a whole millimetre.
No more half measures walt.
:)
Let's be honest here, that's probably the best scene in the entire series.
I think the last moments of felina was the best
No it's not. There are way more scenes that are better.
To quote Walter: "You're goddamn right."
Series four ending, "I won."
It's hard to argue which scene was best because there were so many basass scenes, this certainly evoked a feeling of anger in the audience, like..."Kill the bitches"!
Glad that it was WW who visited G+E and not heisenberg... ;)
How can some people don't want to watch breaking bad even after it getting so much appreciation world wide? It's literally the best show ever.
it's not
@The-First-Vault it's not, there are Twin Peaks and Sopranos here
Jacob J actually, it is. Breaking bad is just the best thing ever happened to TV
NoobMaster 69
No it’s not.
@@Dorkeydaze Haha that doesn't change the fact that it's the best show ever created. Nothing is even close
When the music started, it hit soo hard.
Breaking Bad is one my favorite TV shows ever.
...
I didn’t even enjoy much of this show apart from watching Saul, Mike, and especially Gus (was very excited when they were so prominent in BCS), but this scene gives me chills each of the many times I come to watch it again.
