I've played it about as many times and it's still one of my favorite final fantasies to play through (right after 4). The lack of any sort of characterization to the light warriors makes it easy to sorta "RP" as you play along. It makes it the most immersive of all the games in the series imo.

Hi! You were wondering some differences for the Japanese version. The story writing for the most part is the same minus a few key character interaction dialogues which isn't major enough to really warrant explaining,.A few weapons and few character/spell name changes due to phonetics Cure Cur2/3/4 were Cure / Cura / Curda / Curga. Fire Fir2 etc was Fire, Fira, Firda, Rub was "Death", XXXX was "Kill", "Nuke" was "Flare" and "Saber" was "Temper". "Slain...." was "Dead..." when a character was downed and the place they were revived was a church instead of a clinic marked with an extended cross atop the building instead of a heart above the door. Kary was named Marilith (マリリス), Garland was Ga-rando(ガ一ランド), Lich was Rishichi(リシチ) and a plethora of enemy name changes too long to list here. One important monster change was the "Eye" which had its entire sprite changed because it looked exactly like a classic D&D Beholder and was even called ビホルダー (Beholder). The ending was not as long-winded as the American release so it seemed there was some extra dialogue added. The four fiends were called the "Chaos four" and I am sure there's more I am not remembering off the top of my head, I will need to go back and play my FC copy and take some notes. I hope this helps answer some questions! Excellent guide video by the way! I really enjoy your work.

Been meaning to attempt All White Mages and All Black Mages runs, just to see which would be tougher. @@TopsideCrisis346, I would say the 4 WM party is harder by far. Much harder, I'd say.
The reason is 2 fold: offensive magic access, and weapons access.
Black Mages get access to the Silver Knife, before their promotion, and that's not a bad weapon to work with. Additionally, they get access to the Catclaw, which can do decent melee damage.
As for magic access, one spell that they do get access to is Warp, which lets you travel back to the previous dungeon level. In theory, a person could use the Warp spell multiple times to exit out of the Temple Of Fiends Revisted, after going back to the past.
I will mention though: Fighting Lich in the past will be a pain in the ass, due to Nuke, and the lack of HP progression for the class.

One tip you didn't mention in the video, when you get to the end of the ice cave. In a lot of versions of FF1, the Eye boss can be repeatedly killed for extremely fast XP. Once you beat it, just walk 1 space off the boss tile and then back onto it, and the encounter will start again. Since the eye is fairly easy to kill in a single round, this can be a great way to grind levels if you want to become stupidly overpowered.

Daryl is a refrence to Daryl Hannah, the actress who played a Mermaid in the movie Splash. Nice play through some differences to the JP version, notable being all the monsters in the Japanese version had Dungeons and Dragons names for the monsters they represented.. As far as the tomb Stone I remember Link was mentioned as "link, rest in peace" if I remember correctly translated. and the Tomb said Loto who is I think Erdricks name in Japan. It's a viable if tedious strategy to conserve healing magic and heal potions - good to have as an option in the final dungeon if you get a few really bad battles (gas dragons) that could chew through a ton of your potions and leave you vulnerable toward the end. Harder to keep open slots with characters who use a lot of armor. I usually pair with the wizard staff to confuse the last 1-2 enemies and get a few free rounds of healing in.

After watching more, i'm 100% convinced that was a mind flayer. Straight up mentioned Marilith as inspiration for another monster.

Their name in Japanese were Mind Flayer and Illithid, which had to be changed for both character limitation and legal issues. In the Dawn of Souls remake, they keep their D&D accurate names and seemingly just get away with it or quietly paid to use the rights without it being advertised anywhere.

Almost every enemy in FF1 is lifted from AD&D. The eye enemies were originally beholders, but Squaresoft redid the graphics to avoid getting sued as well as some name changes, but most name changes were a result of limited text space.

Final Fantasy 1 is basically a D&D licensed game minus the license.
Exhibit A: Bahamut and his friendly dragons (all yellow sprites, in keeping with Gold Dragons being the friendlies in D&D) vs. Tiamat and her evil chromatic dragons coming in various colors.

Bro the mermaid named Daryl is a reference to Daryl Hanna and the 80s movie Splash, which started her and Tom Hanks. I'm sure someone else has already said this.

You covered everything there is to cover in Final Fantasy! Nicely done! While your team was created to be practical, I have seen crazy challenge runs where people beat the game with teams like 4 White Mages.
