- Pallet stairs and tiny deck for above ground Costco Bestway Pool.
*I accidentally stated that Lowe's cut 4 inch pieces of the Trex. I had them cut 4 foot pieces.
10 Free pallets (3'×4')
2-3 cement blocks
1 4x4x8 post
Deck screws
Optional Trex decking (I had the big box store cut the planks into 4 foot pieces) and Optional composite screws for Trex.
Miscellaneous wood for bracing.
as I stacked each pallet... I used decking screws to screw them together.
I also used extra leveling blocks to level up the staircase. I had extras ones that I had used to level and support the pool legs.
The dog kennel panels may get replaced with an actual railing in the near future. I don't hate the panels though. They are quite useful as far as hanging wet towels and pool paraphernalia on :)
I ended up with 2 extra pieces of the Trex (goof on my part...could have saved $14) so I just put the 2 pieces in front of the stairs.

This is exactly what I was looking for! I need to build a staircase to my roof to work on it…thank you so much!
Hell yeah momma ! I love when lady’s take on things that everyone thinks only men can do
Absolutely what my mother wanted me to make. This is good very well done. I had something else in mind going straight to the top like a set of stairs nothing on the side.
This is nice and what great job as well. We just put our pool up and we wanted a better ladder.
Thank you for posting and adding the pool railing in the post.
Wow! So proud of you! As a single mom I know how hard it is to do everything myself. Thank you for posting. I know I can do this myself 🥰
100% you can do this!!! Seriously, I have zero carpentry skills. Also, take advantage of having the big box stores cut whatever you need. This was put together in less than 2 hours. The only thing I cut was the 4x4 post. I would have had them cut that as well but I was not sure of the measurement I would need.
My kids laughed at me when I told them my idea, but now absolutely LOVE having the stairs and "deck" for the pool.
You got this!!!
Thank you! I am seeing this 2023 and hoping they still give away free pallets!. Can you tell me more about the kennel pieces you used? I think those are brilliant and I wouldn't change it. I have elderly dogs too and this is also good for them! @@nancyzagar
I have wanted to put a pallet deck around my pool with stairs. But my husband says pallets won't work for stairs. Thank you for helping me prove him wrong! This is awesome. Though, I am jealous as our Lowe's does not give away pallets, even gross broken ones 😢
Just an an added note. Artificial grass can be used on steps also.
Thank you and you're right about Home Depot, no one is ever around to help out.
I thank you so much for this video! I’m 54 years old and I’m doing my best to put up the 32’x15.5’x52” Bestway pool by myself, to save money, and have decent steps that wouldn’t kill me, getting in and out of the pool. This is totally doable.
This is pretty awesome and exactly what I was looking for. We have the exact same pool and exact same so-so ladder! Thanks for sharing!
Love this pool and hope it lasts for years!!!
You did a great job simple smart and effective what more could anyone want.
I can't thank you enough! I had been scouring the internet for the last couple weeks and there was nothing, if there was it was way YYYY out of my league to try and build. This is perfect! Again, thank you so much for sharing.
It makes me happy that this was useful!
Happy building!!!
You’re amazing I love your video. Thank you so much now I know how many pallets I need. Don’t you just love Lowe’s customer service nobody helps.
i have been looking on line on how to DIY steps for my pool! thank you! I have the same pool. :)
great job putting this together yourself. it looks great. I may attempt to make one myself for my pool. thanks for this inspiration 😊
Really great idea I'm going to do this for stairs to my house it actually looks like something I can do I have another way into my house but I've always wanted to go in and out this way without having to pay at least $1,000 for somebody who is stairs and that was just labor
Sounds perfect!!!
Awesome job! & So inspirational! I have nearly all the supplies needed already !score!
So I just need to get out & do it! Thanks so much for the blueprint! & I love the kennel panels to hang pool supplies & towels from 💖
Found you looking for no-fuss stairs for back entry that’s hardly used… Perfect!! Thanks for sharing your genius idea.
Very creative! Does the job. Love it❣️
Thank you!!! I’m so grateful!! I’ve been thinking about this for awhile, but had no idea how to go about it!!
I appreciate you soo much for this video!! I’m definitely gonna give this a try🥰
Wow. You did an amazing job. I’m going to Lowe’s tomorrow and I have an extra large crate I have been trying to give away Great video!
Love this!!!
nice job! very creative alternative to expensive deck stairs.
Thanks for posting this, exactly what I need.
Best design ever!
Girrrl. You did an amazing job! It looks great. You gave me some ideas. I have a new dog kennel not being used.🤔…thanks. Enjoy!
Thanks for the idea I'm getting all my stuff for this project
I think i am going to tackle this project!!! Ty for the great project!!!! To lowes i go!!!!
I see this in this summer
Fantastic job! You're my inspiration!
Nicely done!
My wife hates with a passion standing at the same height as the pool frame to get in and out. She says, NO.. I don't like being so high that all the busy-body neighbors can see right up my butt.. NO! So we settled on a half high platform on both sides of the pool wall where she can just barely step over the frame w/o parading. Wife's happy, and everyone's using the pool 🤜💥🤛
Sounds like a win!
Great idea! Thanks fir the video.
Great idea . Thank you for sharing!
Innovative and well done.
Thank you SO much!!!
I got a lot of heat from everyone when I told them I was going to make a mini deck and staircase out of pallets.
You did Fantastic Thinking of doing this
Awesome job!
You are amazing!! 👏 👏 👏 go momma!!!
GREAT JOB !!!!
That looks really good I think maybe adding a hand rail going down the stairs would be an idea too for your mother to use to staple herself as she's going up the stairs and walking down the stairs.
thaank you just what i was looking for great job
Graciss por ❤❤❤❤la traducción en español por fin encontré el video
Thank you so much, great idea!
Thank u i need this . I cant use the ladder that came with pool. I need something this might work. Thanks for posting this

Wow, very impressive. Wish my husband was this handy. Don't tell him I said this. shuuush
Great idea and I am definitely doing similar one. I am planning to post something on RUclips in an about a month or less once I get my completed. Love the video. That really gave a great idea. If you have a list of materials you used that would be great if you posted in the description.
Let me know how it comes out! There is a second video with more specifics. It's the video with the small black/white dog sitting on top.
Love it!!! Thank you!!!
Great🙌🙌🙌 Job👍😁

Great ideal I'm go to try it
Glad to hear it!!!
genius!!
Genius
I am hoping my husband can get pallets from work like he used to. I just got a pool. The steps on the inside are great. However the steps on the outside are wobbly and scare me to death getting in or out. Everyone else can get up and down them pretty good. However I have some leg issues where my legs don't like to climb the way they used to. I am also overweight and main reason I got a pool so I could swim every day in it. Your pallet stairs would work wonders for me plus give me a good little deck and I wouldn't be scared anymore. We could also put a gate on it so the grandkids couldn't just get in when they want.
You'll have to send pics when it's done!
I am hoping he gets the pallets :) You'll love the stability.
Ma'am thank you for this
Awesome
Brilliant,,
excellent
wow thanks for thegreat idea
Thanks
I was thinking if a person used 8 more pallets they could have steps going both ways, then just need a pipe handrail made out of pipe fittings. Added costs I know.
Great job! Lowes giving free pallettes?!?!? Wow
Like how they give 10% military discounts, like Home Depot and ACE hardware😊
Thank you!
Yep, free pallets in the back! I just picked up another one to make a platform for an outdoor shower.
How did you secure the pallet to each other. I may have missed that.
This is just so perfect and exactly what I need. Did you screw the pallets together? I didn't hear you mention it.
Yup, all pallets are screwed together.
I did a second video showing how I screwed them all together.
🤘👍
No one helps at lowes I hate going to lowes last resort good job
Are you related to Tom Silva. You are awesome !!!
What type of dog kennel did you use? The ones I've seen do not have that large of a "top rail" like in your pictures.
I bought the kennels from Lowe's.
I fostered dogs for many years so I always have an abundance.
The individual panels are 6 feet tall and 5 feet wide.
They are both 2 feet(ish) off the ground to create a 4 foot(ish) rail.
I’m wondering which Lowe’s gave you the pallets, because Lowe’s in Blaine MN says they won’t do that because it’s a liability. I don’t know where you live but I wanted to do this cool idea!
New Mexico Lowe's.
I would call around to other hardware stores.
We have multiple stores locally that give away used pallets.
Maybe ask when you are in the store and ask in person.
Hope you find pallets!
Free pallets are easy to find behind and next to businesses.
Perfect I build same than
Any tips on exactly how you screwed the pallets together? Accessibility thru boards to get to boards, etc
When I put the next pallet on, I screwed on an angle from the sides top down. I probably over screwed by putting at least 2 screws on each corner. So, a minimum of 8 screws every time I put a new pallet on.
Hope this helps. I can do a quick video showing how and where I put screws if that would help.
@@nancyzagar thank you so much for taking the time to explain! And a video would be so great because I’m visual. Also want to see how you attached the 4x4 post to the top pallet. I have built a couple of large loft beds for my teens and they were solid. I know a thing or two but the pallets it’s hard to get your hand in there just wanted visual. There are so many ways to make pool stairs but this is by far the best.
It will be up by end of day!
I will focus on how it was screwed together and how the posts are attached.
@Mary Udd The newest video with more details is now up. I hope it makes the assembly more clear :)
@@nancyzagar okay I will look for that! Now I’m curious which composite decking you chose and why? I’ve started looking online and getting overwhelmed by the choices. I don’t want anything that gets too hot or it’s too slippery or too expensive obviously. I want a dark brown if possible. Where you live is there only a Lowe’s? Just wondering what made you pick what you chose. I still need to get my hands on a few more pallets.
So awesome. Can I have the link for that above ground Pool ladder.

Trying to buy what you used here, is there a list somewhere to order online from Lowes/ Home Depot ? I think its 2 cinder blocks, 2 4x 6 or what were the measurements again ? And trex cut into 4 inch pieces if you're using a standard pallet?
There is another video with more details. The trex is cut into 4 foot lengths. I think i said inches on the video.
The concrete blocks are supports for 4x4's. Not sure what they are called but I know they're not cinder blocks.
The other video has a hero pic of a little dog sitting on the "deck".
Great job!!! How much did the pool Costco
The pool was $599.00
Came with everything needed, plus cover, filter and a small ladder.
The most tedious part was leveling up the ground.
My son and I put the pool together in about 3 1/2 hours.
How long are the 4 inch pieces and how many do you need?? I have a 20x48 round pool and want to grab the supplies to make this!!
4 foot pieces. It will depend on how many pallets you will need. Start with the pallets.
I did another video with more details on the project.
Good luck! You got this :)
How did you facin them together did you use normal screws
@@treasurewithmnrs i used decking screws
