I think what happened was this video was uploaded super soon after he was signed to Zildjian. All of his really impressive stuff from that time like his personal "Projects I & II" were recorded with TRX cymbals. They obviously weren't gonna present a new artist who wasn't repping their cymbals lol!
"I always felt an intrinsic to beat on things growing up; And that manifested itself into beating on desks, and whatever i could get my hands onto." I am sure im not the only one who isn't mature enough not to laugh at the last bit of that statement. lololol
The fill going on at 3:44 and the ending.. holy shit! I hope i could play that fill someday, let alone play anything Travis has written. He is an absolute beast!
If you're watching this video and don't know who Travis Orbin is, you need to do yourself a favor and go look up his other stuff also. He is unequivocally the cleanest and most technically skilled(and talented, but that's more subjective) drummer I have ever seen.
The A series brilliant are a saving grace for the Zildjian company. I was about to give up on them and move to either Meinl or Sabian, but I got one of the china's, a mega bell, and now I want some of the crashes. They are bright, fast, and a little trashy, perfect for metal.
+KodRaiN What? I don't understand statements like these. And literally both those companies offer the same types of cymbal lines. If you think Zildjian has a bad catalog other than the A Custom line you really haven't tried all they offer. Most cymbal manufacturers make good cymbals, everyone just has their preferences.
bokunotraplord Zildjian went on a spree where they started really only expanding their entry level cymbal lines. I mean, they were making ZBT, ZHT, ZXT, Planet Z, and the black ZBT's... you only need one entry level sheet bronze line. Meanwhile, other companies, like Meinl, were working on expanding their cast bronze lines and targeting emerging music scenes.
theVulcanGuy I think they're the Puma H-Streets, but I threw 'em out after that tour because they were STANKY haha. I'm back to the Speed Cats, which is what I've worn for years. Classic Vans slip-ons also feel great to play.
Travis is one of my most fav drummers, perfect technique and setup, was so happy for his zildjian endorsement, but imo darkest hour's music is definitely not Travis' genre, its just too easy for him.
Yeah! Check Orbin's website for his student testimonials:) Alex is at the very top, I also saw a video of Dyed in Grey that had Anup Sastry, Alex Rudinger and Travis all in the same room, pretty damn awesome. Take a look: /watch?v=hH0lK-Xatk4
You're welcome:) lefevredrummer He also has video lessons which you can purchase, I have some and they are far better than any kind of lesson I've had before. I'd love to have a lesson in person.
I love how they show the simplest beat I've ever heard Travis play. Out of all the stuff he has they chose this

The orbinator! This video doesn't do his playing justice. He's nuts
Always nice to see Travis getting some much deserved recognition. Hope to see more videos of him from Zildjian.
Way to go, Travis! It's about time we see this guy in some promotional vids for Zildjian!
What an insightful, intelligent guy. Thank you for this.

Awesome to see Travis on here amazing dude and musician.

interesting setup
Awesome, Trav!
Zildjian , I promise that after a few years I will endorse your cymbals.
Travis is such a nice dude
Friggin Travis always has to use nasa type grammar lol

Travis Orbin Thanks for the response, Travis!
Awwww yeah mr. Orbin!
Darkest hour is his lower level drumming, check out his Periphery, Cyclamen and Sky Eats Airplane drumming videos.
Bring the stacks in, Travis! We all love that shit)
I have the same china and I fucking adore it!
Dope video! It's nice to see him with a pair of UE in ears instead of the big clunky headphones haha
orbin and garstka are my favorite 😊
I read Travis Oberyn for a sec and once i saw him I was like "whoa Oberyn from Game of Thrones is playing drums?!" but then I came to my senses ha
Just curious: towards Travin: Why not use remote hi-hat cables instead of stands? Like Mike Mangini? Is it personal preference?
Hi-hat stands still feel better and more direct to me.
Travis Orbin what shoes where you using? those seem very comfy...
theVulcanGuy I think they're the Puma H-Streets, but I threw 'em out after that tour because they were STANKY haha. I'm back to the Speed Cats, which is what I've worn for years. Classic Vans slip-ons also feel great to play.
i think Periphery will be great if they still have Travis.
yeah, luckily Matt came and saved them!
the things Travis did with Peri were awesome ..
+Kien Chu but Matt is good aswell :)
yeah, Matt is incrediable, i love how he play his unique groove in their "this time's personal"
Anybody know if the sticks he uses are the Hammers?
They are. SRH2 Wood Tip.

This man, beast drummer, also check his youtube channel for more great footage!
What's the yellow thing on his snare?
Tape to mark mic placement.
Ah, i thought it was some sort of snare dampener at first, but then i saw you have some moongel on it already so i wasn't sure. Thanks
Someone help me out; is he left handed or right handed?
CR7TheGunner he can play both. There’s a video on his channel explaining how he started playing with that setup.
Is he left handed? I noticed his hi-hat is on the right and he leads with his left foot also
He's naturally right handed but plays ambidextrously.
Ambidextrous, hence the open-plan setup.
+NathanXdrums He has hi hats on both his left and right side.
My uncle knows these guysv
plays much like Rudinger
lefevredrummer Rudy was a student of Travis
Aaron Gregory wait really? thats awesome!
Yeah! Check Orbin's website for his student testimonials:) Alex is at the very top, I also saw a video of Dyed in Grey that had Anup Sastry, Alex Rudinger and Travis all in the same room, pretty damn awesome. Take a look:

Aaron Gregory wow thanks!

The things I would do for the capability of playing ambidextrously..
+0derpred0 Just practice the other way round! It actually comes to you pretty quickly.
TRX must have been gutted to loose him as an artist! And Cobus!
TRX Is just what a lot of newer drummers use because they're cheaper, and TRX endorses newer drummers.
Burce Banner of prog
drop a stick XD 1:11
It broke, actually - hard to see.
Travis Orbin So It is true! Even Masters drop the stick! Life changing xD
Patryk Sawicki Well it broke is what he said, but I am sure even the greats actually drop one from time to time.
Thats true
Patryk Sawicki ...or break...like he literally just said...
