I remember watching Avon as a 6 year old ,37 years later watched all Blake's 7 episodes again and it's amazing such a great character and actor ( Paul Darrow)
He did portray a real East German spy quite recently in this documentary called 'Sexpionage': ruclips.net/video/4G2qqI8k3do/видео.html Vale Paul Darrow Vale Kerr Avon
That's a great interview with Paul Darrow. I met him on two occasions at a Blakes 7 convention and again at a SciFi convention with Tom Baker in Essex - great guy, really lovely to talk top...and so like his charcater, Avon...only nicer.
Decades later I'm still learning more about Blakes 7. Just starting to realise that Avon and Vila were the realists, as opposed to Blake, who was the idealist, yet Avon and Vila seem like opposites.
He always reminds me of Freddie Mercury. Both the mannerisms and the looks. The serious version when being interviewed but letting the occasional smile out.
it might have been called Blakes 7 but really it was Avon's show. Right from the start, Paul Darrow stole it from under the noses of the other cast members 💫
Totally over the top actor, but what a joyous character and series. Can't imagine him as anything but a heavy, a macho Dr. Smith. Gareth was brilliant in his 2 years.
These days, it's the people who are the robots, just nowhere near as intelligent as ORAC. Avon is, in my opinion, one of the greatest characters ever created; and Orbit is my pick for best Avon episode of B7.
Actually he's nothing like Avon ireal life. I was lucky enough to be a friend and had dinner many times with him. He so set apart and an extrovert. I also miss alot.
I watched Blake,s Seven from the age of 8 to 12 and was I gutted when it was ended in 1981 with a big shootout and the arch-enemy Servalan was absent from the finale of B7
Ah, back in the day when Chessington was known for the Zoological park rather than theme park. I remember going there around the time this was broadcast, and there was a kind of adventure playground - wow did that expand as the 80s wore on!
I have a Dr Who/UNIT poster with Paul's autograph along with Nicholas Courtney, John Levene and Richard Franklin's. Paul and Michael Keating (Vila) had great chemistry.
7:15 I have not seen it since it was broadcast. My name is mentioned but that was not my question! I remember being miffed at the time but then thought “hey, my name was mentioned in the same room as Paul Darrow!”
Blake seven brought interest in computers as theres lots of it coming true .Ai with interaction of Humans with machines.Avon the engineer and iq of 200 making fools of his companions sometimes.Copy of star trek but without the budget. But on my view Villa was Avons match but without the ego.

I do miss Paul Darrow. Very underrated actor. Brilliant in B7 😢
I was so fortunate to have met the man.. Seriously nice and lovely man.. The only autograph I ever collected
Me too
Wonderfully dry sense of humour! Yes I met him briefly too, with his wife, a nice couple.
Things I love: Paul Darrow's stony face, Michael Aspel's leather jacket, the pauses, the awkward banter, the seriousness, the dullness. Brilliant!
RIP Paul Darrow. Michael Aspel still with us at 86.
Aspel mustn’t have got the vaccines.
Such an underrated and underused actor.
It's surprising to discover that Paul Darrow was so sweet in real life
Pure class, and the correct voice that projects an authority and presence
god bless you paul darrow!! such a deep and complex character in avon you created!!! r.i.p
Thank you for preserving these lost shows! We may never see programmes like this otherwise.
Paul Darrow could had been James Bond.
He was born to be a villain. RIP Paul.
Even better, the villain in a Bond film. What a presence.
He did portray a real East German spy quite recently in this documentary called 'Sexpionage':

Vale Paul Darrow
Vale Kerr Avon
He appeared in Die Another Day. But his scene/ scenes were cut.
@@andrewhuckle803 James Bond was one of Terry Nation's inspirations behind Kerr Avon.
Paul Darrow equals Legend
RIP Mr Darrow
I wish i could hsve met paul! 🤩

What a wonderful smile he had

Their relationship was able to flourish after Blake left.
Blake was also a fanatic, and a bit unhinged, not surprising given what he'd been through.
He always reminds me of Freddie Mercury. Both the mannerisms and the looks. The serious version when being interviewed but letting the occasional smile out.

I remember watching that
My hard drive is called ORAC
Good idea, my next one will be called orac. 👌👌👌😎😎👍👍
@@Codzilla71 Sadly underused like the character?
Half this program is Aspel reading out names. You can a sense of feeling the brilliant Paul Darrow is thinking "wtf is this shit"
Prophetic that he mentions his Elvis Presley impression, since he would go on to play him on stage a few years later.
Met him once,nice guy.

How can you say you do a fair impression of Elvis and leave us hanging like that

ask avon!
The year this episode was shown I was 10 but I wish I ahd been 16 or 17 instead
Compared to the man I met at conventions in the 21st century, he seems so nervous here. Like a rabbit in the headlights.
Our Gasboard
So young and quiet here.
7:29 An actor's porkie!
The older I get, the more Darrow-minded I become.
