Thank you for comparing these two versions of a Song I really love.🌹 I´m a huge Lord of the Rings/Hobbit Fan. I grew up reading all I could lay my hand on. Some of my first books were the Lord of the Rings books and “I see Fire” is a must for a Tolkien Fan. Ed Sheeran did a wonderful thing gifting us with it. It will forever be in my playlist. But the first time, I heard Geoff perform it, I was speechless. It had (for me) so much more Depth. And I don´t mean the deep voice. I could feel, that death was coming for the Dwarfs and their friends. And their Determination, to go forward and face it. It made me emotional.
Oh and I was one of the people asking who the other singers were, maybe his brothers? (Shame on me) I love it that he goes up in his higher register. It fits the song and the story telling so well. Thank you again for this treat.🌹

Thanks for the reaction/comparison/analysis. As a patron of Geoff's, when he let us know that he was going to be doing this, I wasn't real excited, because his version of "Misty Mountains Cold" was never one of my favorites. Not that it wasn't done well...but it just didn't 'speak' to me or engage my emotions. I wasn't familiar with this song either, so really wasn't expecting much when I watched his premiere. But it blew me away from the first time I heard it, and remains one of my very favorites of his arrangements/performances. I am glad that he is feeling a little 'freer' to explore his upper range, I think that he was quite torn when he first started about how many super low notes he 'had' to include since he was billing himself as a 'low bass singer.
Oh, and I just have to add that more than one reactor has sat there transfixed throughout the entire song and then asked at the end, "But which one is Geoff, and who are those other talented guys singing along with him?", LOL.

At 1:51, when you were talking about the depths of emotion, Geoff adds a theatrical stop and swallow. Not part of the music, but I've seen singers who are about to become overcome with emotion do it. They do it so they can compose themselves and go on. No reason for him to have done it, this is prerecorded as you know, except for the emotion that it portrays....
And that end - the final singer doesn't want you to remember him, but remember the situation.

Hi Panda! I think something was a bit off on this one - the video volume was fine, but your mic was really quiet..! 🤔I have not seen the film, so I hadn't heard the original except for radio plays, but I agree that Ed Sheeran did an amazing job with it - he is a huge Tolkien fan, and was so pleased to be asked to do this! I must admit that I love Geoff's version, though - to my mind this is one of, if not the best 'multipart' ones he's done (so far!), he really makes you feel the despair and final acceptance of what is coming! Oh, by the way - you never need to cover any Geoff or VP videos, they do not block reactors - they welcome it! 😊

Geoff like VoicePlay is totally independent so none of the other reactors cover Geoff or VoicePlay videos. Peter Barber is one or Mortis.
