@@Silverwing2112 I mean, all you need is a carbonized rod with thermal shielding and a few maneuvering thrusters for a decaying orbit. Super wasteful at our point in space colonization, but with less resource scarcity it would be pretty cost-effective compared to bombs and stuff like that
Oh yeah, if the damage of the shockwave was based around energy, not a set amount (or whatever it currently is) the destruction would be a Lot more realistic, which I’m pretty sure is what the game is going for.
Oh that's cool. I have a few ideas on how to take this to the next level. 1. Jackhammer: Velocity and contact area seem to be more important than how much weight is behind it (inertia), so small impactor of one or a few blocks hitting the ground repeatedly at high speed should be quite effective. 2. Shockwave-railgun-thing: You have a line of impactors pointed at a building and you fire them in series from furthest to closest to the building in rapid succession and maybe each one contributes to the shockwave of the last one resulting in one large shockwave? 3. Shockwave-vortex-thing: Like #2 but in a ring instead of a line, encircle a building and then fire them in rapid succession around it. I'm a simple man, I see something cool I can't help but think 'Ok what if that but MORE?' ;)
I think the shockwave is based on the speed at which an object hits the ground and not mass/inertia so we're going to need something more powerful than gravity to accelerate the impactors.
@@stevepittman3770 this could be the case, however, in my experiments with the mass manipulator in the sandbox, you can create massive shockwaves with the lightest touch on the ground
I think maybe you already reached the maximum shockwave size and strength so it doesn't feel like its increasing. If that's the case than I would love if the devs could increase the maximum or make an item that can.
You know what would be cool? Something like a big mech like in those boss battles in old video games, that would pound the ground with its fists... also keep up the good work!
if there is a shockwave on the building. there might be to the contraption itself. and its that is the case, you can do a clapping robot that generate shockwave :)
The missile style one reminds me of Rods from God. A proposed weapon platform satellite, that launched massive tungsten rods from orbit. The resulting shockwave was pitched to have the force of a nuclear weapon, with the added bonus of no nuclear fallout. But, it most likely would have roughly the same force of a MOAB. The true benefits of the weapon platform would be the inability to stop one of the rods post fire, because it's just a solid metal rod.
The aerial based doom missile is actually a concept that could exist in real life! They're called "Rods from God." Basically, 20ft (6m) long, 1ft (0.3m) diameter tungsten rods dropped from orbit. They can reach five times the speed of sound (Or even double that) and impact with the force of an ICBM (Inter-continental Ballistic Missile) but getting that much weight into space wouldn't be cheap. Edit: with a 6m by .3m cylinder having the volume of roughly 424115 cubic centimeters and tungsten weighing in at 19.3 grams per CC, that would weigh 8185419.5 grams. That's 8185.4195 kg (18045.7609 lbs)! With $10,000 per-pound, that would cost $180,457,609 to send ONE into space! That's not even counting the infrastructure required to launch it.
The concept of dropping a heavy object from (effectively) space has existed in media for a while, with a few notable examples being Rods from god, KEM strike (CoD Ghosts), and a kinetic bombardment projectile.
So impact with other objects create shockwaves? So like a GCOD would be possible? (GCOD: Gigantic Clapper of DOOM!) Also, do dead drops differ from mechanically/rocket assisted drops?
Why the notification is late and the shockwave are cool keep it up i really like those videos i hope you made another one and the song you made are cool
Maybe the shock wave mechanics are based on a contact of surface so maybe if you have a big heavy plate with some balloons then dropped it it would make a bigger shock wave or a small one like the one you made
You should try the rocket approach but with a big flat area for the impact. I feel like the bigger surface area impacting makes a bigger shockwave because the shockwave might start at the edge of the impact area.
1:00 Fun fact: that is an actual concept of the US military. They're called 'rods from god' and are just massive tungsten darts in a satellite. They were deemed impractical though iirc since tungsten isn't neccessarily the cheapest metal
Now what needs to be tested. If the shockwaves come from contact with anything, what if you make a huge clapping contraption, or even a super fast punching robot
Since it seems there is a limit to the shockwave that it can create, technically you could make a piston that hits the ground repeatedly with a really heavy object. Kinda like a jackhammer in essence but one that indirectly destroys buildings :3
LOL my first thought was a jackhammer, but I like how your mind works. Also makes me wonder if we could make something like a railgun that fires a bunch of hammers in series to make either a larger shockwave or lots of shockwave-fronts stacked on top of each other..
Make a wheel with a piston on it with a weight on the end of it, spin the wheel crazy fast just above ground and then extend the piston for maximum speed. Can probably be scaled up to make it really heavy. Or a catapult that doesn't actually catapult but instead slams its cargo straight into the floor.
Did you notice that the back of the hammer was making bigger shockwaves? I think there's a point of impact type of physics instead of weight. That being the smaller the impact point, the bigger the shockwave.
Here's a great idea. Make your missile longer, take out the weights and flatten the nose. Then just have a bunch of free floating steel balls inside with a block of space. Then when it hits, it makes multiple shockwaves through the missile.
