Fun fact the guy who sings I'm Still Standing in Sing is Taron Egerton and he actually played Elton John in his biopic movie Rocketman!
I was coming to post the same thing!!
Nice! I was going to say that.
He has also was on stage doing a duet with Elton during Elton's concerts. Taron actually sang the songs in Rocketman (and it was really hard telling Elton's voice from Taron's. Taron sang this song in SING!. So Malik gets the oscar for playing freddy in bohemian rhapsody but Taron sings the songs in Rocketman and doesnt even get noticed.
This number in "Sing" apparently helped Taron get the part in Rocketman. I forget the interview it happened in, but Elton John has said that he was impressed by the performance and considered Taron for the part based partially off of that.
@@neocelestia He was also in the second Kingsman movie with Elton which also probably helped as well
This song was my anthem after I needed my right leg amputated. It was more of a goal at the time, but it encapsulated my attitude right after.
I hear you. My anthem after colon surgery. We survive in times of peril. Happy your good man.
💖💖💖
It was my anthem after I shattered my leg.
🫶🏼🙏🏼 Glad to hear you are strong brother.
I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues is another great Elton song and video with a great message
My absolute favorite EJ song. Gets me every time.
@@jenniferkasowicz9463
Me too. Such a great melody and meaningful lyrics. Anyone with a loved one going off to the forces can’t help but be emotional twanged by this song
One of my absolute favorites by him
Don't forget _The Bitch Is Back_ and _Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting.)_ All classic Elton. :-)
Princess is also a great song. Love the arrangement
Y'all gotta do Your Song, one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded.
Oh yeah. 💕
Brian Ferry of Roxy Music is a sharp dressed man. Also Robert Palmer.
Link to YOUR SONG ruclips.net/video/mXuUtEDp_Mo/видео.html Such a beautiful song written by Elton’s writing partner (lyricist) Bernie Taupin when he was only 17 years old!
Funny you mention how the Gorilla did the song justice.. Taron Edgerton played the Gorilla AND played Elton John in Rocketman!
One of my fave Elton songs. True story: I saw him live on this tour, and during this song, he got on the piano to dance, and he fell. He was okay and started singing, “I’m still standing” The crowd roared!
LMAOOO I’m sorry but that is so funny
Haha, awesome.
Have you given a listen to "Sad Songs (Say So Much)" or "Levon"? Good stuff.
"Levon" is just an epic masterpiece, great suggestion!!
Next Elton song: Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding-- an 11-minute masterpiece that's a musical rollercoaster.
There are dozens of well dressed musicians; but Bowie came to my mind first.
Yes, Bowie was the best dressed in my opinion!
Thank You!! They haven’t done much, if any, Bowie!
Absolutely Bowie
Bryan Ferry.
Bowie came first to mind. We're not counting crooners are we? 😊
The picture of you guys smiling, giggling and chair dancing can only be described as "happiness". I know you make me happy watching you. Thanks for your reaction....take care and be well. Peace.
You need to listen to Don’t Let the sun go down on me by Elton John, also sang it with George Micheal. Really good🙂
Yessss!!
How about David Bowie??
Interesting costumes over the years.
Smashingly elegant in his 'street duds'
Yep that was my answer too.
If you want to react three more Elton John songs, two I would recommend are: "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" and "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting". I think you'll enjoy those two, plus "Candle In The Wind". All from the album, "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road".
Also Crocodile Rock - Bennie and the Jets - Rocket Man
I think they did Yellow brick road and Candle in the wind.
@@ruthparker9756 , oh, I missed those! I will have to check those out!!
All these mentioned and Levon
& Philadelphia Freedom!!!💙💜💚
This was a "come back" album of sorts as he and lyricist Bernie Taupin started writing together again. "Kiss The Bride" is a good one from this album and "I Gues That's Why They Call It The Blues" is a must.
Bernie's lyrics had been present on all of Elton's albums during the 1976-82 period except 1978's A Single Man and 1979's Victim of Love (though in the latter case even Elton didn't have anything to do with the writing), though Bernie had written only some of the songs on those albums instead of all of them. Even in 1978, Bernie's lyrics were featured on B-Sides and the stand-alone single "Ego".
However, it is true that 1983's Too Low for Zero was the first time since 1976 that Bernie's lyrics made up all of the songs on the album. The only writing credit for anyone besides Elton and Bernie was Davey Johnstone on "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues".
Rob: “One thing I really love about Elton John is…”
Amber [interrupts]: “EVERYTHING”
🤣❤️🤣
Give Elton’s “Empty Garden (Hey Johnny)” a listen. Recorded it a year after his friend John Lennon died. Really somber yet catching tune.
Definitely
Such a good song! Elton is awesome and this is one of his best songs (in my opinion). Good choice for today. USA, we're still standing after 9/11.
Thanks. Needed to hear that. I'm from New York. I watched the tower's come down. Sad☹️☹️☹️
@@derekdonnell7780 My thoughts with you Derek. So sorry for what you experienced
@@derekdonnell7780 even though I'm Canadian I to was shook by the events of that day and was saddened by the terrorist attack
@@ruthharris6783 you are very thoughtful Ruth. Nothing but the best for you in your life.
@Lady Elton22 your words are far too kind. Nothing but the best for you Lady Elton.
Bruno Tonioli (the judge on DWTS) is all throughout this video. He’s worked on some very big videos/tours for huge acts over the years.
I remember Sing. Good movie with some good songs. This is a very '80s song. I believe it's about the fact that Elton came through a very long and dark journey that ended in rehab, and "he's still standing, better than he ever did". A lot of people had written him off and said he was done making hits before this song came out. But Elton has gotten it over on everyone. He just gets better with age.
Very important fact about Elton John. This record will never be broken, no pun intended. 30 straight years with a song hitting in the Billboard top 40. (1970-1999) This means his music truly crossed generations!
Philadelphia Freedom if you haven't covered yet would be my favorite Elton John song followed closely by Pinball Wizard.
For outrageous, Liberace. He was the top entertainer and showman at his peak.
I've been suggesting Liberace for a while now. If Sir Elton has the glasses, Liberace had the rings! And he could play the heck out of a piano.
Your girls would love Elton’s performance of “ Crocodile Rock” with the muppets!!
This video was actually choreographed and knocked up in half an hour by famous uk dance choreographer Arlene Philips, most of the people in the video were strangers just pulled from the beach. Live the reaction.
Nobody could ever beat Elton John on his eye wear or his collection of shoes, especially in the 70's.
Amusingly enough, the guy who did the voice acting for the gorilla in Sing was Taron Egerton - who later went on to star in Kingsman 2, which featured Elton John. And as a kicker, he then went on to not only play Elton himself, but even recreate the original I’m Still Standing music video for Rocketman, the exceptionally good Elton John biopic.
Sir Elton John along with Bernie Taupin were one of the greatest singer/songwriter teams in rock history. Elton started with big hits like Crocodile Rock and Saturday Nights alright for Fighting and continued aging with his fans. In later life he sang beautiful songs like Blue Eyes and Sacrifice. He will also be remembered for bravely singing his rewritten version of Candle in the Wind at Priness Diana's funeral. Love him.💕
SO many great Elton John songs, but I have to say Blue Eyes is my favorite.
Robert Palmer wore pretty cool looking suits in some of his videos
David Bowie, Robert Palmer (Addicted to Love) for best dressed.
Elton John "The One" is my FAVORITE. Gives me goosebumps EVERY SINGLE TIME.
I second that.
List of best dressed musicians needs David Bowie.
Elton also wrote "Can you feel the love tonight" from The Lion King and you should check out his official video it's one of my favorites.
EJ was very much out of the closet by this point in his career... He was unapologetically flamboyant so the creative part of his music vids were just par for the course... Everyone knew it was just his style to be this way and it caught on as one of the reasons why so many gay people of the time chose to show that same outward pride in their sexuality.
I'm a Rock man at heart but even I know that EJ was undeniably a great talent AND ambassador for self-expression.
100% agree i couldn't have said it better.
Not exactly. A year after making this video he married a woman! He didn’t actually come out for another five years.
@@gotham61 - Just because he married a woman and didn't actually admit to being gay means nothing... If he was ACTUALLY still hiding it then it's the worst kept secret in the music industry because EVERYONE knew he was as gay as the day is long and the "marriage" was a sham... Look at the imagery in this music video and try telling me that people of the time didn't know he was gay? 🤣
@@gotham61 i heard of that i just never heard of when it was. Ty.
@@gotham61 Isn't it amazing how people want to latch onto or invent something. To promote ,some kind of ( usually left wing ) political agenda. It's a freaking descent song. Wish people would stop doing that
Elton and his partner have adopted children and are such a nice family.
I highly recommend an old classic song by Paul Revere & The Raiders - Indian Reservation. I believe you will love the song and the vibes.
Elton does a good song on Madman Across the Water called Indian Sunset.
@@lisacunnngham535 even though that is a very good song, Indian Reservation, "Cherokee People" is a very old song that is about over coming with a positive message. My mother is half Cherokee and she would tell me about the struggles of her father. This song gave me encouragement. You are right, Madman Across the Water is a very good song.
@@nikoknightpuppetproduction369 I think you guys are talking about the same song. The title is Indian Reservation, but the chorus was "Cherokee people, Cherokee tribe"
Paul Revere and the Raiders also have some great outfits, too.
@@gypsygirl3255 the song Madman Across the Water called Indian Sunset is different than Cherokee People. Both are nice songs but very different.
Next you should check out EJ doing "crocodile rock" on the Muppets.
Try Candle in the Wind next from Sir Elton John.
“Rocketman “ a film that came in 2019 about Elton John was excellent. Elton and Bernie won an Academy Award for Best Original Song (“I’m Going to Live Me Again “).
Crocodile rock is an awesome one too! Also Last song between a father and his son is touching.
That is the most darling little girl. Y'all really are blessed with that beautiful family.
Tiny Dancer, Rocket Man, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and one of my favorites Burn Down the Misson
"Rocket Man" is another great Elton John song!!
Liberace, is an iconic entertainer and flamboyant personality that has earned his legacies.
I think Liberace is already in the Most Overdressed Category as the Winner!! Haha!!
I would put Liberace as most opulent. He has his own category.
All I can say is the man loved what he did and it showed. He was born to play the piano and entertain.
@Maya Nightwolf I didn't see Liberace in person, but my mother saw Elton John while I was in the womb.
Elton is great..Listen to the song Madman Across The Water by him.
Best early EJ song for my money. Such an atmosphere.
Good call. Good song and great album.
I have yet to get a reaction channel to do Madman Across the Water which is a shame because, in my mind, it is so POWERFUL.. one of my top songs forever along with Comfortably Numb, Bohemian Rhapsody.. etc. Maybe one day they will get around to it. The entire album is good, in my opinion.. Captain Fantastic is another great album that I listen to all the way through, along with James Taylor Mudslide Slim and the Blue Horizon. Another channel listened to the entire Tapestry album (Carole King) and I literally cried listening to it because I used to listen to it all the way through when I was young and it was so great to hear it again all the way through. She would be an excellent artist for Female Friday. Stay safe and have a good one!
I know it wouldn't be everyone's favourite album, but Madman is mine, just love every track.Lots of fans mention songs like Daniel or Rocket Man in the comments ,but Holiday Inn and Rotten Peaches are equally as great!
@@keithjones6023 It’s also my favorite as well.
Elton John & George Michael does an amazing duo together singing one of Elton John song ( Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me.. A must to watch
Such a great song Elton John is epic. Great song
Best dressed male artist? Elton, Prince and of course fashion icon DAVID BOWIE!
This is my mom's favorite Elton John song. My favorites are Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Sacrifice ( both definitely worth a listen imho) 🙂
Elton John has so many older Great songs you'ld Love! , Please check out:
Crocodile Rock - Bennie and the Jets - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Rocket Man - Candle in the Wind
"50 something" syndicated music request, I disagree with Dustin by a L-O-N-G shot (respectfully). Try some truly great songs instead: Madman Across the Water, Burn Down the Mission, Levon, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Harmony, Elderberry Wine, Don't Let the Sun go Down on Me, Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding, Grey Seal, Honky Cat, Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters, Daniel, Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting, The Bitch is Back, Pinball Wizard are all superior songs to anything that came after 1976 in the humble opinion of all those people born before 1960. Come you "elders" who know better....chime in!
A couple of uptempo ones you missed out: Philadelphia Freedom and Don't Go Breaking My Heart. From the 80's onwards, the only decent album he released was "Jump Up!", which had the classic ballad "Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny)" amongst many other strong tracks.
After that, the only track I really liked of Elton's was the fantastic Shep Pettibone remix of "I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That" which turned the reasonable pop number of the original into a barnstorming dance floor filler (so good, even Elton remarks how great it is at the very end, though most of the versions on RUclips cut that bit out!). 70's Elton was stunning though - massive high quality output that only the Beatles could match in terms of quantity and quality.
Bennie and the Jets too. I love Harmony. It's a deep cut and not as much airplay but such a pretty song.
I'm chiming and you just named all of the songs that I would listen to.. with Elton, it was easy to listen to the entire albums, such as Yellow Brick Road and Madman.. Tumbleweed Connection and Captain Fantastic. Harmony is one of my favorites.. All the Young Girls Love Alice, Roy Rogers, Razor Face.. all of them. He's my favorite artist, if you can't tell... although I kind of fell off after Captain Fantastic.. I'm like you.. I would rather hear "Now I know.. Spanish Harlem are not just pretty words to say".. than I'm still standing, although I will find myself singing along, I'm sure. Texan Love Song has always been a favorite of mine too.
@@rklrkl64 I forgot about I don't want to go on with you like that.. I always thought that was kind of catchy. I think, for me, things changed when his voice changed.. it's not the same Elton, through no fault of his own, of course. I still enjoy the music, but he sings much lower. Have a good one!
Anything off of Tumbleweed Connection, hell , anything off ANY of his albums before 76. I went in the army in 74 and the first thing I bought after basic training was his first 7 albums. And I didn’t have any others with me at that point and didn’t care! Never got tired of them.
Ahh, when you could actually create music videos with a budget of cocaine.
Elton John and Billy Joel had a mind-blowing concert called “The Piano to Piano Tour”. Together I think they payed about 4 hours. Simply mind-blowing! They could play each other’s songs with a drop of the hat!
David Bowie was quite the fashion icon - he could be on your list.
David Bowie was a well dressed man too! 😌
BEST DRESSED: David Bowie, Robert Palmer, Rod Stewart, Dean Martin, Tom Jones and EVERYONE from Motown!
This particular video was choreographed by Bruno Tonioli (the dancer in the black unitard)who is now one of the judges on Dancing with the Stars. You would love seeing some of Elton's earlier stuff. He had the most phenomenal glasses and costumes.
Best dressed musician of all time: Liberace 🙌 (look it up)
Love this song! It's what I listen to when I'm feeling down to remind myself that "I'm Still Standing".
Suggestions (Album versions): Honky Cat...funky piano for Jay, smokin' horns for Amber...it even has some banjo! I played this song non-stop when it first came out and it's still one of my favorites.
Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting is way too much fun... the drummer kills it and Elton tears that piano UP! Good ole' rock-n-roll at it's finest!
Another great one from Sir Elton! From the same album try "I guess that's why they call it the blues", or from the way back machine "Take me to the Pilot".
Charlie Watts and David Bowie had style.
Check out one of Elton's very old songs called "Funeral for a Friend".
The studio version is my favorite.
But the stage version also is good too
@@JeannieBeanie I agree.
Yeah I agree. Rob loves piano and Elton rocks out the piano in that masterpiece
That has such a great into! Love your suggestion.
@@eileendobbs8009 Another really good one is "Tickin"; kind of a sad song, but it's mostly Elton, the piano, and a little synth; my mother clued me in to that one, and I've been hooked ever since.
There many Elton hits I love, but this is my favorite song by him. The message has a sentimental meaning for. It's very empowering.
Glad to have you guys back!! Elton John is a genius!
I watch SING with my granddaughter all the time! I absolutely love it! The gorilla’s (Johnny) voice is Taron Egerton. He is the Welsh actor who plays Elton John in Rocketman, the biography movie about Elton John. You should watch that movie, it’s really good! I also can’t wait for SING 2 to come out next month!
For someone who loves the piano - please react to Burton Cummings (lead singer of the Guess Who, you've reacted to them I think), My Own Way to Rock is one that really shows his skill, and a live version so you can really see it.
Y’all need to watch Elton’s “This Train Don’t Stop There Anymore” video. It features Justin Timberlake portraying Elton thru the various stages of his career. The song is great too.
As far as best dressed musicians, I’d like to add Robert Palmer and Bryan Ferry (Roxy Music) to the list.
Elton talent never fades away!!!
Best dressed? Little Richard, Lenny Kravitz, Justin Timberlake , Bono, David Bowie , Harry Connick Jr,
Michael Bublé, Billy Joel, That's all I can think of now lol
Eltons songs from the 70s are much rawer and piano filled compared to his later stuff. Levon, Funeral for a Friend, Madman Across the Water… Honky Cat, Amy….
Suggestions:
Christopher Cross - ‘Sailing,’
Kayne Brown - ‘Worship You,’
Kool and The Gang - ‘Celebration,’
Luther Vandross - ‘Dance With My Father,’
and last but not least ...
Roberta Flack - ‘First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.’
My favorites : Philadelphia Freedom, Crocodile Rock, That's Why They Call It the Blues.
🥰 Elton John
Crazy clothing my list would be David Bowie,Hendrix,George Clinton,Adam Ant and Boy George.
One of my favorite Elton songs. Just a great beat and fun song that everybody can find something to relate to it with. There was so much controversy surrounding his sexual orientation in the late 70s after a failed marriage and him confirming being bi-sexual. Smear stories and other trash showing up on the cover of every gossip magazine in the states and bigots that took a lot of shots at him in the media. Seems so bizarre today. Likely a big part of the not so subtle sexual innuendos in the video clearly relating to all sexual orientations. This song seemed to be the perfect answer for his career still being viable in the 80s despite all the attacks on him in the late 70s. By this time he was not hiding his bi-sexual orientation and came out as gay about 5 years later.
I used to have a concert video he did from Disney World in the mid-90s. Just him and an incredible percussionist using a variety of percussion instruments from massive gongs to steel drums. One of the best performances I have ever seen of him and before he had his throat surgery that altered his vocal range. If anyone knows where to find that these days please let me know!
What makes Elton John a class act is he separated his music from his orientation. He never felt the need (as is the case today) to throw it in people faces so even those that may disagree with his life style could enjoy his music. What's more, he attended and performed at Rush Limbaugh's wedding. An example of how we can live together in a world that often disagrees.
Speaking of Disney, you need to hear his opening song for The lion King, The Circle Of life. Unlike anything he had done before or has done since, but a true classic.
DAVID BOWIE!! First with the glam Ziggy stardust stuff and then just flat out gorgeous Italian suits....
I grew up in the 80's listening to this song and loving how fun and upbeat it was...years later I watched Rocket man this song had a whole new meaning to me seeing everything he went through and how he came through it all still standing and winning I balled at the end of this movie while this song was playing
Please do "Pinball Wizard"; He sang "Pinball Wizard" in the rock opera "Tommy" by The Who (btw I also recommend that movie/rock opera for your movie channel). You will not be disappointed. Tina Turner is also in the movie singing "Acid Queen".
"Candle in the Wind" is a threnody with music and lyrics by Elton John and Bernie Taupin. It was originally written in 1973, in honor of Marilyn Monroe, who had died 11 years earlier. In 1997, John performed a rewritten version of the song, "Candle in the Wind 1997", as a tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales. In 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine listed the original version of the song at No. 347 of its 500 greatest.
Best Dressed? What about your boy Tom Jones???
Please guys do a reaction to Elton's "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues." Another great one is "Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word." It's a bit of a downer, but an awesome heartfelt performance from Sir Elton.
-JR in Miami
A lot of creativity in this….the dancing and the effects are amazing. The stair scene was brilliant.
**edit** you guys just commented on the creativity. Love it.
I would have to list _"Nikita'_ as my favorite E.J. song,... primarily because of the video.
I saw this fabulous man in concert and sobbed when he came out on stage. His performance was out of this world and didn't think I could have loved him more. It was in 1997 ish. I had great seats and was in heaven for the duration of his performance. The man, the legendary Sir Elton John 💕
Don't know if you guys still read these but if you want to see Elton John live...TIME IS RUNNING OUT!!!! His farewell tour is still going on. Just caught him in Dallas. And unlike some artists... I am pretty sure it is definitely a farewell... He is in hos 70s and has some health issues. And badically he says he is just tired.
He doesnt have the moves he once did... But he still ROCKS a piano. And most of his band members have been with him for decades so they are flawless.
One of the best concerts I've seen
Another fun fact. Bruno from Dancing with the Stars is one of the background dancers. Look closely. You will find him
There's nothing like hearing a song and then finding out it's a cover. Then listening to the original. One of the best I've found, and 💙 is Miserlou. It dates back centuries. Has been performed by hundreds of artists, in numerous styles. First time I heard it, was Dick Dale and the Deltones. Check that one out sometime!
Not a big fan of the pop Elton.
I'm Still Standing is a bit too top 30 for my liking.
I put it in the same class as Island Girl (yuk) and Philadelphia Freedom (double yuk).
Stick with the early Elton for the most part.
I hope you spotted Bruno Tonioli the judge on Strictly. He choreographed this vid and stars in almost every scene.
Bernie Taupin and Elton John were great collaborators. Bernie would write the lyrics and give them to Elton, and Elton would put music to them. They were two of the best. Elton John and David Bowie are my 2 favorite artists.
Try next "Don't Go Breaking My Heart", Elton's duet with Kiki Dee.
Well you brought it up so I'm going to take you there, Elton John Martin himself after Liberace at Little Richard's. You are right because Elton is in the class of those two along with Prince.
You Need to listen to his Disney songs from the Lion King. "The Circle of Life", "Can't wait to be King" "Can you feel the love the tonight"
This is my favorite Elton John. You guys should watch ROCKETMAN.
Great song. Great video, guys. May I suggest EMPTY GARDEN by Elton John? It's an awesome tribute to John Lennon.
Elton came out with a new song in May that is really good. He does a duet with Olly Alexander (other name is Years and Years) at the BRIT awards. It's a cover of a Pet Shop Boys song called "Its a Sin" Elton's voice is pretty song for 74 and the voice range of Olly's goes really well with the deeper voice of Elton.
Don’t forget ZZ Top’s fine linens!!! Sharp Dressed Man!
Another great song for today, 9/11 America is still standing. I love Sing, one of my favorite movies!
You gotta watch the movie "Rocketman" from 2019. It's the story of Elton John's life. It's one of the best movies about a musician.
Number 3 is definitely Bowie! I’d put Hendrix up there as well.
One of my favorite Elton John songs. I'm going to echo another commenter who suggested Madman Across the Water for you guys to react to.
Who are the 19 jassacks that gave this a thumbs down. Firing squad is forming.
