I'm from Cardiff and girlfriend is from Glasgow, we moved to W.A in 2022. We travelled to QLD, Sydney and Melbourne and fell in love with Melbourne. We just made the move in October to Melbourne's West. It will take some getting used to, but you will adjust quickly. You will miss home from time to time, but you'll realise how good Australia is once you go back home for holiday, my god i LOVE this country, Welcome "home".
Hats, guys. You can thank me in 20 years when you dont get skin cancers. In the meantime that will stop you getting heat exhaustion and 3rd degree sunburn. Its harder to sleep well when its warm. Try running your air conditioning in the bedroom at night. Youve probably already sorted this, but for your internet in an apartment you should have a weird little metal box on a wall. Thats your nbn box. Talk to an internet provider and get your internet plan. They’ll send a modem to you. Plug that into the nbn box and youre good to go. Just log onto your modem wi-fi. If your apartment was built to take internet cables to each room (handy for the tv and pvp gaming) just use the splitter on your modem to route the cables into the wall sockets and plug your tv ethernet/or ps5 into the room lan plug. If you dont have an nbn box the internet provider will arrange for NBN to instal one but you need to get your landlord to approve that because its a fixture. But most places these days already have an NBN box. Mind the lid, because its fiddly to open and close. Ps is your vehicle a short wheel base? If so, be VERY careful on dirt roads and tracks. The high centre of gravity on them makes them more likely to flip. In case youre unaware, most of our road fatalities are on country roads. Soft shoulders, speed, inappropriate vehicles and vehicle handling account for most of that. I believe the soft shoulders is a big surprise to foreigners. Because of the heavy rains we get when its wet, bitumen shoulders can deteriorate badly, leaving the bitumen pretty chunky. Hit that at speed when youre not expecting it and it can pull the wheel right out of your hands.
I moved from the UK to Perth in 2005, Perth is always building and improving, it’s been a great place to live, no regrets, much better life here than what the UK could offer
Welcome to our little country. West Oz has some of the best sunsets you will ever see, & remember suncream is a must in Australia, multiple applications in a day.
Welcome to Perth. We moved here 16 years ago. We lived in Wimborne for many years, so have very fond memories of Dorset. We are old and live in the Hills, but if you get homesick and want to talk 'Dorset', give us a shout.
Hope you love Australia as much as I do. I moved from England to Australia 6 years ago you won't regret it. I'm in central Queensland now, moved away from Brisbane as property was getting too expensive. Haven't been to Perth yet. All the best in your Australian venture 😊
Welcome to Perth. Watching you guys leave the UK actually made me cry.....it brought back so many memories. The feelings you described as "excited" to be on your way but anxious and sad to be leaving family and friends. Its an absolute whirlwind of emotions. We moved to Perth 20 years ago with our 6 year old son. No regrets at all we love it here (live in the hills, not really beach people). But..... I still have an emotional hole and some days (usually birthdays and Christmas)miss my family and friends a great deal. We have amazing friends here now 😊 Top tip.... don't underestimate the power of the sun. Polarised sunglasses, hats and sunscreen all year round. Enjoy WA... recommend Esperance, the beaches are unbelievable 😮.
Welcome! It was particularly nice to see your apology about making light of the bushfire situation. You've won a subscriber here. Bushfires and floods are the bane of our existence in many parts of Australia and most of us have either been affected or have family and friends who have. Again, welcome and I hope your new life lives up to your expectations.
good evening; I continually talk about bush fires and floods. I used to watch these events as a child each year.....No one cared; and then we built houses in the forests and suburbs on the flood plains......and guess what happened.....we suddenly have catastrophe's.
Bush fires 🔥 are extremely dangerous in Australia. Apart of moving to Australia is obviously experiencing new challenges such as bushfire. Your honesty about the situation is a credit to you both . Good luck and enjoy life
I've been here in OZ since 1986, home sickness is a thing, but you have to fight through it, I'm sure more good things than bad things are going to happen to you, Australia is a great place, good luck.
Get used to the wind! The west coast is characterised by it, but it is good for keeping you cool and deterring the flies from landing. You'll come to love the Fremantle Doctor!
@@sarahbolsontravelnot quite, more like putting a fan on to disperse the BBQ heat. Before global warming the Fremantle doctor was consistent, sun comes up heats the land warmer than the ocean, wind kicks in to equalise as best it can, night comes wind eases, 6 in the morning an easterly wind blows in the opposite direction because the ocean is warmer than the land. Rinse and repeat until 15 years ago. Global warming is equalising the temperature of the land and sea, which does not provide the big temperature differences that caused the freo doctor, to consistently blast 25 knots if wind daily during summer. Still the best place to sail boats or windsurf in the world
You took us back some 42 years when we emigrated from Ferndown and settled in Sydney Wishing you both every success in your new journey we will follow your blog with interest
Welcome to Perth! I’m a fellow Perthie so if you need any advice just shout! As you discovered, Aussies do tend to be an early to bed/early to rise culture. It drives me mad as a rare night owl 😂
that is awesome to secure a rental especially in the current property market ...everything is working out for you and no more cold frosty winters here in perth...unless you live down south..good luck love you vlogs..so positive and embrace this huge change you won't regret it
Welcome to Perth, you'll have about four months of relentless blue skies to enjoy. Don't worry about all the 'everything here wants to kill you' nonsense, it's grossly exaggerated. You won't see snow or ice here either. I moved to Western Australia from the UK in 1995, and have lived in the Perth Hills for twenty years... I wouldn't live anywhere else.
Glad you learnt the message about taking the bush seriously I always remember a English family driving from Sydney to Adelaide and they perished when the car boiled and then they left the car to walk. A few lessons to be learnt and you will be all OK. Welcome and enjoy your your new home.
Actually that's a great point. The number one golden rule in Australia is if your car breaks down when you are outside a metro area you stay with it. People are impossible to see from a plane or a helicopter, cars are visible. People can and do die.
Dry heat is less muggy and oppressive than humid heat but the opposite pertains - dry cold feels colder. Europeans here comment on it. Especially combined with wind. A German friend said she’d never been colder than in Australia and when I visited her family in winter in Germany I could see why. It was cold in Germany, but also still and wet/snowy/foggy with a very low cloud deck, lower than the church steeples. And it would stay like that for months. Nothing like Australia's high skies, biting winter winds and mercurial weather.
Me and my family moved to Perth 20 years ago , my husband , three teenagers and the family dog , so glad we did , although it wasn’t all rainbows, absolutely worth it , the summer heat can be brutal, but everything comes a price , the majority of the time it’s bright and beautiful.Good luck , enjoy.
Welcome to Perth. Wishing you and your husband every success with your life in Australia. When you're out in the sun make sure you wear a large rimmed hat to protect your lovely peaches and cream complexion. 😊
Welcome to Australia where bushfires are something you do need to make sure you are educated about to ensure you stay safe. Also please make sure that you have plenty of fluids in the car including fuel if you are travelling a long distance - far too many European travellers get caught because they simply don't understand how harsh the land and climate can be
Welcome to Perth, this takes me back to when we moved here in 1988, a lot different then, no mobile phones no internet, best move we ever made, it’s going to be a scorcher today, slip slop slap 😁
Welcome to the land of BIG. Big beaches, big distances, big sunsets. About bushfires; I've been caught in two in my life, they are terrifying. And knowing that your life is at the mercy of God, and in those moments you are pretty much helpless is not something I would wish on anyone. You were right to turn back. And I appreciate your apology for being a bit flippant in the earlier bushfire parts of your video. You are not in Kansas now Toto, but in the land of Oz. And the start of the best life adventure you both will ever have. Welcome, enjoy!
Welcome to Oz, guys . Make sure at some time in the future you see all of Australia, you won't regret it. Prepare responsibly, it can be very dangerous, not from animals lol, but from the vastness and emptiness . You must have your own water as it is very scarce in some areas . Enjoy and be safe.
You could see her really cheer up as the days passed. Sunshine is good for the spirits especially after gloomy England. I see people suffering from depression in England and Canada, and I just say, Move to a sunny beachside town.
I find the long hot WA summer depressing. Being stuck indoors due to the heat is horrible . Thankfully the remaining 8 months of the year in Perth is wonderful .
@@linhofmann4913 Yeah, I visited Perth in December and liked the city and South Perth. But the beach and suburbs were a bit barren. Ideal life is a summer home and a winter home.
Welcome to glorious Perth. I moved from the UK 9 years ago and is the best life choice I’ve ever made. It’s a special place on so many levels. Defo have the emergency wa app to hand during bushfire season. We have to take it seriously, I camp remotely so always need to be vigilant. Feel free to reach out if you need advice on anything, welcome to Paradise 😍😎
hi guys love ya vlogs , unfortunately bush fires are part of life here , when ya head north always carry a jerry can of water with you just in case ya break down or get lost , it gets hot out here
It must have been such a relief flying over already securing a rental, it's a tough market out there at the moment, well assuming Perth would be no different to any other capital currently. Hope we get a house tour once you've settled in. Welcome and enjoy Perth, even though I'm in Brisbane, you certainly picked a winner city to settle in.
Welcome to my city , few hot days ahead , hope you settle in ok. Congrats on the rental , it's a tough market and you got one!! We get up early in Perth and early to bed 😂
You will enjoy. But maybe you should have come a couple of months earlier. That way, you can get used to the weather. Today it's only about 32 and usually a bit warmer in the hills.. Remember sunscreen
So lucky, congrats. I'm a nurse in UK and I have my permanent residency for Australia but haven't been able to make the move just yet as waiting for my wife to pass her Australia doctor exams so she can get a job when we get there
I'm in the same Job as Jamie and came over to Adelaide in 2009. Its a beautiful country, Aussies are great people and I'm sure you'll love it. Congratulations on your move👍
Welcome to you both, i hope your move and job in WAPOL is successful and you enjoy Australia 😊 goodluck🎉 standby for some lovely Perth HOT weather....get big hats wide brimmed hats and wear 50+ sunscreen.
I was talking to someone yesterday who lived in Cairns, then Melbourne. Arrived in Perth 2 years ago. She said she’s staying here for good. Sorry about Wednesday… 37 degrees… stay cool. Fortunately, we don’t have daylight saving so it’s not dark getting out early in the morning. Perth actually has about 20 minutes of permanent DS because our time line is 120 degrees which is 500 kms east of the city.
oooh, harsh time of the year to move to Perth. Been here since 2006 and this is maybe one of the hottest decembers I can remember. Usually ramps up from here to february. The Perth-Dubai-UK route is my favoured one and I try to sleep through one of those flights to get the timezones sorted, but yes it can take a while to get sorted. I guess depends which flight and when you landed...I'm thinking you landed middle of the night? You must get yourself a good hat/baseball cap and definitely so good SPF sunscreen - I usually get the factor 50. Also if you need glasses get some tinted ones of some clip on shades for them as that sunlight will cause headaches if you are not used to it
Hi again. I'll give you both a solid tip and echo other comments about sunscreen/sunburn and being sun smart. First, the tip. Buy light coloured clothing because dark colours attract flies. Buy a cotton blend for comfort in our heat, cotton doesn't absorb much moisture so it dry's easily and doesn't get heavy. A bonus tip, just about everything these days runs off lithium battery's. Our Aussie heat is not a lithium battery's best friend lol, especially the heat inside a parked car's cabin. I made a video some years ago, reviewing a gimbal and mentioned this (I will leave a link at the end of this comment) but basically getting a cooly aka chilly bag (insulated grocery bag) from the supermarket for about $2 will help protect your camera batteries, drone batteries etc. Don't even leave your smartphones inside a parked car. Lithium batteries have been known to swell in the heat which can cause damage to the device they're stored in. I personally can attest to the after a dash cam failed for this reason, now I only own a dashcam that's powered by a capacitor. I also use a small insulated bag that I can bring with me, I got it from a chemist's (pharmacy), it's actually meant for diabetics to carry their insulin pens but is perfect size for my action camera. It fits in a handbag, backpack, camera bag etc. ruclips.net/video/dss8V2T28yA/видео.html
There's nothing like seeing people from the UK in our sun. Just remember the sun screen (cream). 50+ for that head mate. And a broad brim hat. An Akubra would be nice.
Ah hills life... We emigrated from NZ in 1997 and landed in the East, not Cott. We're more hillies' than beachies' anyway, so your visit to the Mundaring Dam was cool. We love the hills, but it's really horses for courses. Most of the UK ended up in the northern suburbs, while kiwis ended up in the east. Weird, bit hey...
Perth, it's the best city in the world. The Mediterranean of Australia. Actually, I'm moving there permanently on the weekend from Brisbane. I've lived there, on and off, for the past 10 years, my home away from home. And, as of next week, my actual home.
Welcome to Perth. I was born here but moved to the UK with my British husband in 1991 and moved back to Perth in 2019 with him and our daughter. Even for someone born and bred here, moving back was an admin nightmare so I feel lots of sympathy for what you’re going through. Fish and chips at Cott Mainas the sun sets is definitely a Perth only experience. I’m wondering if you’ve got anyone to spend Christmas with? Would you like to join a Perth family and experience a hybrid Christmas?
Welcome to Perth. Good that you have a morning beach routine already. Perth will get hot so expect high 36c to 42c in summer. A/C weather so you need to acclimatise before you should consider activities outdoors
Welcome to Perth guys, I'm glad everything has gone smoothly so far. I don't know if you researched the bushfires, which may have prompted your voice over, it did get a bit hairy for some residents in that area but the volunteer fire fighters (firies) did a good job keeping everyone safe. Search on the following if you are interested in some extra footage and a news report on that situation. "Out-of-control bushfire threatens lives and properties north of Perth | ABC News" Also, just curious, if you're comfortable saying, what suburb did you end up renting in?
Welcome to Australia. I hope you enjoy it here. I also hope you get to experience more of Australia than just WA. I live in Queensland and really recommend that you travel to the eastern states as well. Perth is beautiful but there’s so much more to see. 😊😊😊
Welcome to Australia, I wish both of you well and hope your blessed with the best of fortunes. I'm curious about something, why did you choose the west coast over the east coast or somewhere in between?
wow Hi to both of you. I was in Dorset just last week (when all the storms were happening) and loved it all in spite of the rain and the storm. I have been in Perth for 50+ years and still miss England heaps. I am not a hot weather person so its really too hot here for me in Perth BUT I have grown to love both places. Some people that move over say they never miss the UK and others like me really do miss it especially the seasons and the greenery everywhere. All the best for your new adventure. Which suburb did you get your house in? You were very lucky there as some people have been trying to get rentals for months and months. cheers Sonya
You better protect that dome, Mate. Skin cancer in aus is no joke.
Typical Aussie always bad I’m impressed how Aussies are so brainwashed on everything like the sun rays are different from the rest of the world

Welcome to you both, i hope your move and job in WAPOL is successful and you enjoy Australia 😊 goodluck🎉 standby for some lovely Perth HOT weather....get big hats wide brimmed hats and wear 50+ sunscreen.
you guys seem like great assets to Perth and WaPo. Enjoy beautiful WA!

Whack a rooftop tent on the Jimny, a bit of camping gear in the back and you will have awesome experiences
You’ve read our minds!
Perth, it's the best city in the world. The Mediterranean of Australia. Actually, I'm moving there permanently on the weekend from Brisbane. I've lived there, on and off, for the past 10 years, my home away from home. And, as of next week, my actual home.
Welcome to Perth. I'd suggest googling "Slip, slop slap" it's a catchphrase from long ago that still rings true.
You get heaps of Jacaranda trees in WA as well, that's cool.
They do, but they’ve just missed the major flowering periods.
I have a feeling you're in for a rude surprise with the heat that's coming ... Beautiful place though ❤
Oh dear it’s been pretty hot, 43c/109f, hope you have a wonderful time.
No need to apologise, you did precisely the right thing for a bushfire, turn around, stay away, look after yourself.
Welcome to Perth. Good that you have a morning beach routine already. Perth will get hot so expect high 36c to 42c in summer. A/C weather so you need to acclimatise before you should consider activities outdoors
Slip slop slap! Every Aussie has had this drilled into them since we were old enough to talk
Purchase some "Natures Botanical Insect repeller" liquid or cream as soon as you can. Bugs are very friendly here.
Enjoy Perth, its going to be very hot today and tomorrow. Good luck.
Welcome to our little corner of the world.
Just moved to Fremantle myself and Cottesloe is pretty cool
How are you handling the heat now? Slip slop slap guys.
We have enjoyed the heat so far actually, it’s the wind that we haven’t been loving!
"Out-of-control bushfire threatens lives and properties north of Perth | ABC News"
Also, just curious, if you're comfortable saying, what suburb did you end up renting in?
Welcome to Australia. I hope you enjoy it here. I also hope you get to experience more of Australia than just WA. I live in Queensland and really recommend that you travel to the eastern states as well. Perth is beautiful but there’s so much more to see. 😊😊😊
nah there’s just Perth
Perth and fremantle are the go for sure, you'll be tanned and surfing in no time yeeeoowwwwwww☝️🇦🇺🏖🌏🤘🇳🇿🇬🇧🍻⚘️🥇
Welcome to WA!
Most states have a government-run emergency app where you can be notified of where there is a bushfire or other emergencies.
Welcome to Australia and its summer Christmas.
Perth very different city to what you find in Europe but growing and is fun cheers
Welcome to Perth…… we moved here in 2005, and have never looked back
Welcome. Hats will be needed
Welcome to Australia, I wish both of you well and hope your blessed with the best of fortunes. I'm curious about something, why did you choose the west coast over the east coast or somewhere in between?
west is best. But they were recruited by WA police.
wow
Hi to both of you. You were very lucky there as some people have been trying to get rentals for months and months.
cheers Sonya
so hard to be torn between two places.
How exciting.🙃
Great to see you using the independent Palace Cinema's we have one near us here in Melbourne. You guys are all over this.
