The new digs look great, great to see you're settling in well. I loved the start at Scarborough Beach, always a good vibe there. I used to live near there but have moved further north.
FYI, you can go to any service station and exchange an empty gas bottles for a full one, if you weren't aware.

When you light a gas barbie, turn the tap on the gas bottle, wait a couple minutes, then, light it up. I generally, turn off the bbq by using the gas bottle tap first and letting the gas in the line burn off.
IKEA does a great [cheap] breakfast btw. Half price on Saturday....

Not a migrant but moved to Perth from the east coast leaving family behind. Not having family support is difficult at first but I found Perth a very welcoming place to live where people tend to look out for each other a bit more than in the bigger more populous cities. You’ll soon make friends who are in a similar position and you will become each other’s backup. I hope as Perth continues to grow it doesn’t lose its big country town community vibe.

Kmart and IKEA really are the best two options for all your house bits and pieces. Gosh it's hot today in Perth , stay cool and enjoy your first a Christmas here, it's going to be lovely weather.
I live in the Swan Valley , it's stunning in autumn , winter and spring but very hot in summer. If you come back out here in Jan to March all the road side grape sellers will be set up on the weekends , you can get lovely fresh grapes at super cheap prices. Some vineyards also do ' pick your own grapes ' in Jan and Feb .
All Public transport is free until mid Feb, so it's a great option if you both want to have a couple of drinks whilst out, over the summer months.

Must admit that when I moved to Perth I only bought with me one piece of furniture (an armchair that's been in the family for 60+ years). I went to a charity place to pick up some very cheap bits of furniture just to have something to sit on...but I guess I was in rented accommodation for many months so having too much furniture was ok as they were always partially furnished (and I was given some goods by the owners when I moved on because they just didn't want the stuff). Never bought a new fridge since I've been here (18 years now) and only recently bought a washing machine as the last one had a failed pump.

Im a lifelong sandgroper. Been here since I was 3, a long long time ago. Grew up in the hills. started riding motorbikes on our farm when I was a kid. If youre a biker I have to warn you that WA is not great for bike riding. Mostly the roads are big, long, and boring. If straight line speed is your thing then its not bad, but other than that, the only real runs are the mundaring weir road (notorious for the sunday sessions) and the hills generally. All of which are notoriously dangerous because of the combination of winding roads and hairpins, soft shoulders, big trees very close to the roadside, and terrible car drivers.
Also, if - like me - you insist on riding in full leathers then WA has a surprise for you, because youre going to lose a lot of weight in them. Id still rather sweat buckets than ride without proper protection, but a lot of people dump the protective gear. Also, night riding is often out of the question because night temperatures plummet and you end up freezing with the windchill. And, weirdly, WA bikers are some of the most unfriendly Ive ever encountered, despite getting my first road bike licence here (back when 250ccs were compulsory to start). Other states you'll always get the bikers' wave, but here its rare. Of all the states, in my experience, WA has the most Squids.
Ive ridden in every state of Australia and the riding is way better in all of them (other than maybe SA). NSW in particular is biker paradise.
I gave up riding a few years ago because of (non bike related) injuries but - and I hate to say this - I really dont recommend having a bike in Perth, unless you really cant afford to get to work any other way.
Thats not a scam. Thats a variant on Swatting. Some sort of dispute between someone and the person at that address.
