The new digs look great, great to see you're settling in well. I loved the start at Scarborough Beach, always a good vibe there. I used to live near there but have moved further north. FYI, you can go to any service station and exchange an empty gas bottles for a full one, if you weren't aware.
When you light a gas barbie, turn the tap on the gas bottle, wait a couple minutes, then, light it up. I generally, turn off the bbq by using the gas bottle tap first and letting the gas in the line burn off. IKEA does a great [cheap] breakfast btw. Half price on Saturday....
Not a migrant but moved to Perth from the east coast leaving family behind. Not having family support is difficult at first but I found Perth a very welcoming place to live where people tend to look out for each other a bit more than in the bigger more populous cities. You’ll soon make friends who are in a similar position and you will become each other’s backup. I hope as Perth continues to grow it doesn’t lose its big country town community vibe.

Kmart and IKEA really are the best two options for all your house bits and pieces. Gosh it's hot today in Perth , stay cool and enjoy your first a Christmas here, it's going to be lovely weather. I live in the Swan Valley , it's stunning in autumn , winter and spring but very hot in summer. Must admit that when I moved to Perth I only bought with me one piece of furniture (an armchair that's been in the family for 60+ years). I went to a charity place to pick up some very cheap bits of furniture just to have something to sit on...but I guess I was in rented accommodation for many months so having too much furniture was ok as they were always partially furnished (and I was given some goods by the owners when I moved on because they just didn't want the stuff). Never bought a new fridge since I've been here (18 years now) and only recently bought a washing machine as the last one had a failed pump.
