I'm pleased to have Ivory 2, Keyscape and Synchron D-274 and decided I had no need for another piano library - until now. Superb sound - and when I'm finally able to upgrade my set-up next year I'll be adding BBCSO Piano to these... in memory of my mum & dad (both played in the BBC Symphony Orchestra). Thanks for this fantastic upload. 😎
Okay Simeon, you did it again. You cost me money - but wait!! This is a good thing. Simply put, your playing, your video assessment of products - especially from Spitfire - but others as well, is ALWAYS a pleasure to watch. And as a result, I went ahead, took the plunge, and purchased this piano library. Now it's not like I don't have plenty of piano libraries but THIS particular one will certainly compliment the BBCSO that I purchased a year or more ago. So while you cost me money, it is well worth it and I sincerely appreciate your expertise, your clear and fun assessment of this product (and others) and as always - being a long-time fan of Spitfire's libraries, I simply will enjoy this product as well. SO thanks again for costing me money. But the other good part was that as a long time user of Spitfire products, and having an account with them, the price was reduced since I have the BBCSO and so many other libraries of theirs and it is just an added perk for a short time that makes the price better and the many ways to pay for it - even on time through companies I've used before to "finance" it. THANKS as always for your videos and expert reviews of truly great stuff to use.
vous etes magnifique une lumiere apparait dans la noirceur merci j'ai acheter le piano spitfire apres avoir ecouter en jouer et vous avez une belle voix aussi wow merci pour la vidéo
Jacob, that is so kind of you to say. Each piano takes me into its own world which always amazes me. Thank you so much for watching and for your encouragement. Joyfully yours.
Absolutely love it!!! The piano & especially you’re playing!!! -> You are an incredible piano player!!! I’ve always wanted to play like Keith Emerson, but I’m really preferring your style these days!
To my ear, the 1st Mix has the more cinematic - composing sound and the 2nd one is meant for the virtuoso pianists among us. Simeon, once again, your demo presentation is exceptional and very very important for us that we get to choose if we get this Piano or not, therefore I (we) thank you a lot!! As a BBCSO pro holder I will definitely get this, cause in my case the Noire doesn't seem to fit very nice with the BBCSO and, I feel that the VSL Yamaha CFX will not fit good as well.. I was about to get the CFX and try everything to make it fit, but then Spitfire Audio caught me by surprise. I think there is no need to compare for example this Piano, Noire, Yamaha CFX or Cinepiano because all of them are built for a different cause, imho. Yet, I wouldn't say no to a video like that xD For a 4th time (or maybe 5th) you managed to sell me the product Simeon, with your joyful play and excellent presentation, SA should thank you forever! We certainly do! Be well my friend and once again, your help is much appreciated 🙏❤
as an owner of BBCSO Core, and more pianos than my meager skills can handle competently, I do not plan to buy this at this time. However, I always love watching you go through the minutia of these piano libraries. Your playing is definitely inspiring, not to mention entertaining.
I like the brightness of this Piano even the Core version, how do you think it sounds compared with a Yamaha C7? I remember you played the C7 from SoundPaint
You really played this up! I gotta say, the mic positions on this really makes for a versatile instrument. Especially when you've invested in the BBC pro library. Just felt that Spitfire caught us a little bit in a pinch here.
hello, do you or anyone else happen to know what the touch dynamics of this piano are like? i've had a lot of pianos before where there is a sudden transition from soft to loud when you hit the keys. is that better and different with this piano? would be extremely helpful to me :)
Hamburg do NOT use a varnish on their hammers, this is something they do on New York Steinways, and it's a ThermoPlastic Resin called B-74 they use. Hamburg Steinways are meticulously and professionally voiced by hand, using needles and extremely fine sandpaper only. The main difference is, New York Steinway Hammers come to the factory SOFT and they have to harden them, and Hamburg hammers come to the factory hard and they have to soften them, this is the traditional and arguably correct way of doing it for the best all around tone. Chemical voicing of the hammers in a piano is generally frowned upon by the most professional technicians as it permanently alters the hammer and damages the overall natural fiber structure of the felt, which is what you're paying for in premium hammers in the first place... Wheras needle voicing seperates and moves the fibers to loosen them allowing a softer more delicate tone. The real reason this piano is likely on the brighter and richer side is due to the hammers maybe being voiced less from the factory, or have grown harder again over time as some infact do. I hope this insight is useful for you! :)
This has been an issue that I have not had a definitive answer to help clarify. Thank you for being a part of this amazing community and sharing, it is much appreciated. Joyfully yours!
This is much more realistic and a true representation of a Steinway D. PianoTeq is just an algorithm that attempts to replicate it and as a result is missing a huge amount of nuance and detail the real instrument provides.
Yes, I never apply any EQ or other effects to change or sweeten the sound in any way unless I explicitly show during the video, for instance adding Black Hole or other effect to a sound in context. BTW, thanks for the lemon/tea tip, much appreciated.
Spitfire used to have the “Orchestral Grand” which was withdrawn not long ago. So I’m wondering if any of this new library is from the withdrawn library or is it a completely new library? Is it better than what they previously offered?
They are different. I believe Orchestral Grand was a Steinway in Lyndhurst Hall whereas the new Spitfire piano is the Steinway D recorded in the hall where the BBC Orchestra used to perform. Hans Zimmer just bought that old studio.
great demo - great playing, Simeon. I'm still waiting on mine to be fixed. it's late in the U.K. Q. can a triple pedal (sustain, soft, sostenuto) be used with it?
I paid a thousand pounds for 'all-in-one' orchestra that will be 'constantly updated' and now I've been asked for an extra 18% for six dynamic layers on a piano that elsewhere costs fifty dollars. The Spitfire admins had intimated several times that this would be one of the 'free' upgrades. Very sad. Lost faith in Spitfire. Edit: gotta say, your playing is lovely!
I would think that since the M1 is Apple Silicon, then yes, the plugin should work with the M2. I would probably try and touch base with Spitfire Support directly just to make sure. Thanks for watching.
Greetings ! Putting an i9 9900k on its knees must be an optimization problem from Spitfire ? What do you think ? I didn't felt like you did put the CPU on it's knees when you demo-ed VSL Fazioli F308 - as it's also quite Heavy having 300+ Gb Soundbanks, am I right ?
Hello Thomas, I run into this especially when running everything while livestreaming, there is a lot of overhead. In this case I had a few mic positions selected and the samples were coming from the external Spitfire SSD where the rest of the BBCSO instruments live, so that might also have been a factor. Optimization is always something I try working on. Thanks so much for watching. Joyfully!🎹
@@PraiseTracks I was more speaking about an optimization problem from Spitfire, as, as far as I remember VSL Fazioli was using less performance, correct me if i'm wrong !
I own the free version of spitfires bbc orchestra. You said the piano is included in that? How do I update this haven't seen any updates in spitfires app.
Zedakaiah, I would try clicking on the little "COG" wheel that is beside BBCSO DISCOVER In the Spitfire App, and then select RESET. This should refresh the settings and install the update. There seems to have been some sort of issue with downloading the update previously that should be corrected by now. Thanks for watching. Joyfully.
Also make sure that you do not have any DAW or application open that could be accessing the BBCSO Plugin as this will cause issues with updating (I just experienced this myself).
The update was just added - at least for me (they announced it would come around the 6th july for all users). Should be visible in the Spitfire app without any workaround. But: The Discover piano is just underwhelming and a far cry from my Pianoteq 8 Steinway collection. And the volume level is way too low. IMHO not worth the update.
Can you please address the Esse problem when your talking if you have a compressor running then turn it down compressors will emphasize the Esses or add a De-Esser into your vocal chain . Your videos have really good content but the Esse problem when you talk causes me to turn them off
Thanks for the feedback, I will absolutely check that out. Sometimes you are not aware of or can hear the issue so having more helpful eyes and ears out there is much appreciated. Joyfully!
Beautiful playing, and a ton of fun to watch! Even in the Core version this piano sounds nice. The Spitfire fanboys are professional whiners... I can't hear anything but a fantastic piano sampled fantastically. In Pro the room sound nd miss are simply STUNNING.
So to make things a little tastier, they would sometimes pronounce my first name as “cinnamon”, so then you would have a Cinnamon Hamburger! 🍔 Oh, don’t forget the 🍟 Thanks for watching. Stay Joyful! 🤓
Like the Han Zimmer Piano (which I'd love to dump in the trash), it's not very good. The Noire Yamaha C9 is a much better piano and infinitely adjustable. Bit late for this. Should have been included in the BBCSO in the first place. Spitfire marketing is better than their products. I personally do not think many of them are professional. No "attack" on all but 2 libraries make it impossible to time 2 instruments properly. Very lazy programming. Never complete!
I'm pleased to have Ivory 2, Keyscape and Synchron D-274 and decided I had no need for another piano library - until now.

Your playing actually sounded better than the Spitfire demos! :)
Agreed
Yes, completely different impression
How about Andy Blaney's demo? Pretty phenomenal
@@philjackson7000 no, I wouldn’t say so… piano sounds like many others
ive decided im buying this ....... as a studio musician/arranger, this is a very good piano sound .

Hi Simeon, it sounds beautiful, how do you think this stacks up to the Pianoteq Steinway D?
I ask myself the same!
This is much more realistic and a true representation of a Steinway D. PianoTeq is just an algorithm that attempts to replicate it and as a result is missing a huge amount of nuance and detail the real instrument provides.
Simeon did you play the Discover version without any EQ settings
Yes, I never apply any EQ or other effects to change or sweeten the sound in any way unless I explicitly show during the video, for instance adding Black Hole or other effect to a sound in context.
