I have a mate 20 pro and it the best phone I have ever owned. The front-facing camera is something I never use and I don't understand why people ever use a front-facing camera. For me the fingerprint sensor works perfectly. So much better than poor Apple iPhones.
Much better face recognition that the iPhone XS. I had it for two months before I made the jump to mate 20 pro. No regrets. Great battery life. Insane camera. Looks nice. Screen is great. I don't get greasy marks on my phone so it must be down to diet and sweat glands maybe. 😂 Never wanted android. Got this mate 20 pro. Best phone I ever owned. Ruins samsung and 100x better than apple.
I own a note 9 and god I wouldnt want to switch to a mate 20 pro. The only competitors in my opinion are pixel 3 XL, oneplus mclaren edition and iphone XS Max.

@@MiguelAngel-rw7kn It's limited by whatever device is charged. The only other phone that does 15w is the M20P, so that'd probably be the fastest. iPhones are still 7.5w and even Samsung are sitting at 10w - still 33% slower.

For the first time i don't agree with you Saf. I have this device from 2 weeks now and the face unlock is (i think) much better than Face ID. I don't have an XS or XS Max, i just had an X for 3 months last year and the Face ID was a nightmare for me. On this Mate 20 Pro the face unlock is really much better. Sometimes it's unlocking even the smartphone is on my desk and i'm sitting on my chair ! I don't have the finger "magnet" problem on my twilight design. Maybe you eat too much greassy food ? ;)
@@Marcos-Silva the test doesn't involve Mate 20 Pro. Only mate 20 pro and iPhone use 3D face scan for unlocking so far. The other phones including Samsung are 2D scan.

really this phone helps me a lot. before always when I go outside I need to take a power bank with me in case my phone shutdown in the middle of the day. now I feel relax and it stays a long time with me. super fast charging save my days always ..it is worth the money

I honestly love these videos. Direct & honest (I hope) experiences with this or that phones. Sure we all have our biases but ironically the more phones we use, the less bias we should have as we won't be attached to one particular phone. Yes we still have preferences (like me using iPhones) but these videos IMO are the most real ones! Keep up Saf!

I have been using it for one month and I gotta say this phone is buttery smooth and has great cameras for my usage. Face and finger print recognition work fine, battery life is incredible and that 40w charge speed is amazing. I mostly use my phone on social media and so far the experience is good. The phone has some problems though like the stupid EMUI. It has some bugs, mostly visual bugs (especially once you hide the notch and when you switch to horizontal mode). I wish Huawei tried harder on testing it's UI. Coming from a Galaxy note 5 I loved using widgets for emails, massages and for other things since you save time by not having to open their apps. EMUI widgets suck and buggy. You can't even expand some of them to take half of the screen like in Samsung phones. Also dark theme doesn't work on some apps like messages. And lastly, the microphone is not great, some people complained while mid call that my voice is not clear. These are small issues that can be fixed but I highly doubt that Huawei listens to us... EDIT: Alright after a while I managed to solve some of these issues. For the widgets the solution is simply installing 3rd party apps from the play store, make sure that they don't consume a lot of battery power. And to enable dark mod for massages app you just need to check setting and enable it there for some reason.
Best phone I've used so far. Been 6 days so far. Fast, amazing battery, camera great, face ID, I used the case that came with the phone, perfect. Added a geek squad clear plex protector, it is great. Great reception, gps great. Nothing bad to say, except wish it had more room for notification icons as some dont show up due to the notch taking up space
people keep talking about the notch like its a feature... its the extra screen on the sides of the notch thats the feature. phones like the note 9 might not have notch but it does not have an impressive screen to body ratio
HiTouch can be turned off in settings. You can turn on dark colors within batrery settings. Rest of the comments are ok and understandable. But I don't think the phone was used more than a week. I found this things out in less than a week and I am no phone pro. Review feels biased, don't know why.
I had this phone for 2 weeks and I had the green screen problem so I send it to Huawei and they gave me a new one and it still had the green screen problem. I was so tired of this so I switched to the note9 and honestly the only advantage of the Huawei rear camera and ( a little bit but not such a big diff) the battery life, but the note9 has Better speakers Better front facing camera When you listen your music with headphones the sound is way stronger on the note 9 and better video recording And this phone has a freaking headphone Jack Witch means that I don't really regret the fact of switching to the note 9 because it's actually a better choice in my opinion.
Rony Dagher i ordered a pre-owned yesterday which i’m suspicious is going to have an LG screen with the bleeding issue, if this is the case then what contact option did you choose on the Huawei website? Because i see 3 options, live chat, Email CEO or Email support and enquiries. Will they even replace the android phone if i bought it as used from a different retailer?
I'm a Mate 20 Pro user here's my review: Pros 1- LOVE the battery life, it's awesome. 2- Face ID beats iPhone by far, so fucking fast and you don't need light (I've done tests with no light at all and works so fast) 3- On-Screen Fingerprint ID it's very fast. 4- I like the swipe gestures but the home could improve 5- Pretty design. 6- It's fast 7- Reverse wireless charger it's very handy. 8- Curved displays are the best change my mind. #FACTS 9- Comes with a dark mode
You can enable App Drawer. Settings > Display > Home screen style You Increase/Decrease yellow tone in Eye comfort. Settings > Display > Eye Comfort C'mon Saf! :D
How can people discuss about eye comfort and that shit? It's Android not ios, you can download 3rd party apps for everything and they've much more options in most cases
I know a couple of people that have had issues with the in screen fingerprint reader working consistently for them, but for me it's been amazing, 99% of the time it just works. Same with the face unlock. I love the phone, had it 2 months as well. My only minor complaint is the AoD lack of 3rd party app notification icons. At least there are text messages shown, and Samsung AoD was just as basic a couple of years ago so hopefully it'll catch up.

What is going on Saf? You sound biassed more and more... Not against the notch, but.... Not mentioned in iPhone or Pixel review. Preffer camera on iPjone or Pixel, but night mode is missing on both devices. Design was like Note.... Display was just good? Reading mode.... There are a lot more functionalities in the UI comparing with your two biased devices. Sorry, but this isn't fair review. I really doubt that you used it a whole month.
Everyone is hyping the phone so he dosent want to Join there bandwagon, you see he had to purposely miss the finger print sensor to get it to not work. But with all honesty this phone is the best of 2018 and cameras are better than pixel and iPhone.
Daniel Nix you better check camera reviews buddy the cameras are way better on mate 20 pro, what camera you might be thinking about is front facing camera which pixel 3 and iPhone are better but I don't take selfies.
Hi SuperSaf - of interest, why do you find Face ID better on the iPhone? I've been using this since mid October and have had zero issue with speed or accuracy. I can't realistically see the iPhone being more accurate than 100% and I can't see it being faster - maybe a comparison on the Face ID alone? Agreed with the fingerprint sensor - but on the other side of the coin, the facial ID opens the phone most the time before you thumb even gets to the screen ... so it is (can't be!) used because it's that fast
I hereby announce just purchased my huawei mate 20 pro 8gb/256storage version. Just literally about 2 hours ago. and for guys information i just sold my iphone xs max, been using it about a month. I am so not into the phone, 1st. It is too big for my hand, charge very slow, although been using the 12watt charger. Took almost 2hours to fully charge.. n not utilizing the big screen.. its like having big screen for nothing. Yeah.. good things like great stereo speaker.. all the things about ios air drops bla bla. Camera is good, video is good..but i missed the customization of android.. although my laptop is mac pro, i do have an ipad.. i watch.. but for the phone.. i still going back for android..the size of mate 20 pro is just so perfect for me.. n i like it so much

Ur paying so much so just enjoy the 2k.. so compact in hand..actually when using the xs max before i usually have finger ache like i am always stretching out all finger to hold the phone.. so not comfortable the pain like running through my wrist. Emui is fine. I dont mind how the ui works coz i can tweek it. The most important thing is how it makes u feel comfortable using it. My second day of owning this phone. But I don't know about others, I already ran into a problem. The phone won't pick up or even find my bluetooth headphone, all my other devices find it no problem. I found on the internet, that it's quite a common problem with this device and that Huawei probably don't support as much bluetooth devices as they should. Also I don't know if I'm clumsy, but I get thrown to my home screen sometimes, when I type messages on my SMS app or my Messenger app etc... I'm confused how nobody points out these issues on youtube
Only the phones with LG screen have that problem. I heard that they changed the screen supplier after this issue. I am going to order it and run the device scan. If the screen is made by LG, I think I will just return it right away.
Great review, a lot of good points however some facts were a little subjective and didn't really apply to myself or other users. One quick comment regarding the reverse wireless charging: Ive been using it in a different manner, especially when I travel. Ive got two phones (using the nano memory expansion on the Mate 20 pro) and I only need one charger now. All I do is place my phone on charge, place my iPhone X on top of my Mate 20 pro and wake up the next morning with both phones fully charged. I can see how it seems to be a gimmick to a lot of other people though.
Blimey. Here in Switzerland, these are being sold in one of the main high street stores for 499 CHF (£379), with no contract. And yes, you can set it to English or any other language. So, if anyone's coming skiing, don't forget to pop into your local electronics stores !

I was the same, bought the P20 pro, I loved the battery life, speed of the unlock and camera. I always installed nova launcher so felt all android are more or less the same but the Huawei just didn't feel as polished as my previous Samsung devices so I've gone and bought a note 9. Give Huawei a year or two to get their shit together and they will leave most phones in the dust! Since the emui 9 update ive gone back to the P20 Pro, battery life is epic and software is improved!
@@thinggol - I rate it better than my old devices (S8 plus and Note 8), selfie isn't great, reverse charging is kinda useless. The phone is very responsive, snappy i would say, screen resolution is best in the market. There are lot of new / hidden features like knocking the screen can take a screenshot, also you can register the two finger prints for 2 desktops. I am not a fan of EMUI so I highly recommend to use Nova launcher for this device.
I've had a Mate 20 Pro for 3 weeks and to be honest, I'm not really satisfied. Don't get me wrong, I love Huawei and I've been using Huawei products from 2011, but I expected more from this phone. I've been using it as my daily driver and I think ONLY ONCE I've got more than 7 hours of Screen-On-Time, usually I'm getting between 5 and 6 HOURS and all of this on a moderate use. I love the cameras, the screen, EMUI but the rest isn't as nice as I expected. The face scan unlock is quite erratic and the same goes for the fingerprint sensor, often needing to use the fingers from my left hand (I'm right-handed) to unlock it, it annoyed me so I ended up turning it off. The selfie camera is OK, not much complaint. Connectivity isn't perfect either. I've been keeping a regular Mate 10 as my second phone/work phone and I have to say, the selfie camera is better in the Mate 10 (8MP F2.0) and so is the face scan unlock, even in the dark. And lets not even speak about battery life. I wish this phone had a wide angle lens though! Sadly I've decided I'll return the Mate 20 Pro. Mind you, I've loved the experience and love what Huawei has put together here but perhaps it wasn't the right time. I'll try the Mate 20 and if it doesn't work out I guess I'll wait for the P30 and so to come out.
Just turn down the screen resolution to make the battery life better, and try register your left thumb fingerprint rather than your right one. Hope this helps.

I had my Mate 20 Pro for a couple of weeks before I sold it, the main issues for me were the curved screen, which I found was a pain when using the keyboard. The other couple of issues were the fingerprint under the glass and face unlock, both were very hit and miss. In saying all that, I generally liked the build quality and the camera especially, so I ended up buying the Huawei mate 20 X. It's like the 20 Pro on steroids!
I dont like Huawei since its its 100% regulated by Chinese govt, but it really is a head turning device and an engineering marvel. Phone has a big 4200 mah battery that outperforms Samsung's bloated note 9 at 4000 mah, second compact 7nm CPU, trades blows with androids best, while coming in a relatively light weight envelope, elegant form factor with an iconic gradient finish, better performance per watt then any Android I have seen since the LG V30. Chinese govt are full of goblins but I cant deny this piece of great engineering. Fanboys got to die though. Namely: (1) Sammy boys (2) Huawei boys (3) iSheeps (4) Sony boys Sammy boys are the most irritating lol. Delusional know it alls who barely know anything about phones 😂😂😂 at least iSheep dont act like know at alls.

Brought this phone in october! For me its the best of 2018. The extensive features are like no other, the battery is unbeatable and so is the camera! Hopefully the p30 and mate 30pro will be even better! The only bad thing is of course the hefty price!

tbh the reverse charging gets a lot of hate and it can be called a gimmick - but most of the tech we use today and love today was gimmicky and niche. touch screen, alexa, AI, fingerprint scanning, iris recognition, face scanning.. all of it. give huawei a chance. at least they’re actually trying to innovate.
Excellent video, just wanted to let you know that you can actually enable app drawer in the default launcher by going to Settings->Display->Home Screen Style The launcher becomes really good after that. I have paid for Nova, but I'm still using the default one.

I honestly love these videos. Direct & honest (I hope) experiences with this or that phones. Sure we all have our biases but ironically the more phones we use, the less bias we should have as we won't be attached to one particular phone. Yes we still have preferences (like me using iPhones) but these videos IMO are the most real ones! Keep up Saf!

I have been using it for one month and I gotta say this phone is buttery smooth and has great cameras for my usage. Face and finger print recognition work fine, battery life is incredible and that 40w charge speed is amazing. I mostly use my phone on social media and so far the experience is good. The phone has some problems though like the stupid EMUI. It has some bugs, mostly visual bugs (especially once you hide the notch and when you switch to horizontal mode). I wish Huawei tried harder on testing it's UI. Coming from a Galaxy note 5 I loved using widgets for emails, massages and for other things since you save time by not having to open their apps. EMUI widgets suck and buggy. You can't even expand some of them to take half of the screen like in Samsung phones. Also dark theme doesn't work on some apps like messages. And lastly, the microphone is not great, some people complained while mid call that my voice is not clear. These are small issues that can be fixed but I highly doubt that Huawei listens to us...
EDIT: Alright after a while I managed to solve some of these issues. For the widgets the solution is simply installing 3rd party apps from the play store, make sure that they don't consume a lot of battery power. And to enable dark mod for massages app you just need to check setting and enable it there for some reason.

Best phone I've used so far. Been 6 days so far. Fast, amazing battery, camera great, face ID, I used the case that came with the phone, perfect. Added a geek squad clear plex protector, it is great. Great reception, gps great. Nothing bad to say, except wish it had more room for notification icons as some dont show up due to the notch taking up space
people keep talking about the notch like its a feature... its the extra screen on the sides of the notch thats the feature. phones like the note 9 might not have notch but it does not have an impressive screen to body ratio
HiTouch can be turned off in settings. You can turn on dark colors within batrery settings. Rest of the comments are ok and understandable.
But I don't think the phone was used more than a week. I found this things out in less than a week and I am no phone pro. Review feels biased, don't know why.

I'm a Mate 20 Pro user here's my review:
Pros
1- LOVE the battery life, it's awesome.
2- Face ID beats iPhone by far, so fucking fast and you don't need light (I've done tests with no light at all and works so fast)
3- On-Screen Fingerprint ID it's very fast.
4- I like the swipe gestures but the home could improve
5- Pretty design.
6- It's fast
7- Reverse wireless charger it's very handy.
8- Curved displays are the best change my mind. #FACTS
9- Comes with a dark mode
The background music is pretty irritating

I know a couple of people that have had issues with the in screen fingerprint reader working consistently for them, but for me it's been amazing, 99% of the time it just works. Same with the face unlock.
I love the phone, had it 2 months as well.
My only minor complaint is the AoD lack of 3rd party app notification icons. At least there are text messages shown, and Samsung AoD was just as basic a couple of years ago so hopefully it'll catch up.

What is going on Saf? You sound biassed more and more... Not against the notch, but.... Not mentioned in iPhone or Pixel review. Preffer camera on iPjone or Pixel, but night mode is missing on both devices. Design was like Note.... Display was just good? Reading mode.... There are a lot more functionalities in the UI comparing with your two biased devices. Sorry, but this isn't fair review. I really doubt that you used it a whole month.

Hi SuperSaf - of interest, why do you find Face ID better on the iPhone? I've been using this since mid October and have had zero issue with speed or accuracy. I can't realistically see the iPhone being more accurate than 100% and I can't see it being faster - maybe a comparison on the Face ID alone? Agreed with the fingerprint sensor - but on the other side of the coin, the facial ID opens the phone most the time before you thumb even gets to the screen ... so it is (can't be!) used because it's that fast

I hereby announce just purchased my huawei mate 20 pro 8gb/256storage version. Just literally about 2 hours ago. and for guys information i just sold my iphone xs max, been using it about a month. I am so not into the phone, 1st. It is too big for my hand, charge very slow, although been using the 12watt charger. Took almost 2hours to fully charge.. n not utilizing the big screen.. its like having big screen for nothing. Yeah.. good things like great stereo speaker.. all the things about ios air drops bla bla. Camera is good, video is good..but i missed the customization of android.. although my laptop is mac pro, i do have an ipad.. i watch.. but for the phone.. i still going back for android..the size of mate 20 pro is just so perfect for me.. n i like it so much

I was waiting the 8gb version since the launch date contacted huawei malaysia but they said they have no idea until i received notify today but i know that the maxed out version will surely come out one day, I am so happy with the phone. Every bells n whistle its have. This gonna be my fav phone ever the insanely 4200mah battery n crazy fast charging speed is the top listed thing that i need in a phone.. screen is gorgeous.just stick with 2k resolution no need to drop to fullHD plus. Ur paying so much so just enjoy the 2k.. so compact in hand..actually when using the xs max before i usually have finger ache like i am always stretching out all finger to hold the phone.. so not comfortable the pain like running through my wrist. Emui is fine. I dont mind how the ui works coz i can tweek it. The most important thing is how it makes u feel comfortable using it. My second day of owning this phone. But I don't know about others, I already ran into a problem. The phone won't pick up or even find my bluetooth headphone, all my other devices find it no problem. I found on the internet, that it's quite a common problem with this device and that Huawei probably don't support as much bluetooth devices as they should. Also I don't know if I'm clumsy, but I get thrown to my home screen sometimes, when I type messages on my SMS app or my Messenger app etc...

Only the phones with LG screen have that problem. I heard that they changed the screen supplier after this issue. I am going to order it and run the device scan. If the screen is made by LG, I think I will just return it right away.

Great review, a lot of good points however some facts were a little subjective and didn't really apply to myself or other users.
One quick comment regarding the reverse wireless charging: Ive been using it in a different manner, especially when I travel. Ive got two phones (using the nano memory expansion on the Mate 20 pro) and I only need one charger now. All I do is place my phone on charge, place my iPhone X on top of my Mate 20 pro and wake up the next morning with both phones fully charged. I can see how it seems to be a gimmick to a lot of other people though.

I was the same, bought the P20 pro, I loved the battery life, speed of the unlock and camera. I always installed nova launcher so felt all android are more or less the same but the Huawei just didn't feel as polished as my previous Samsung devices so I've gone and bought a note 9. Give Huawei a year or two to get their shit together and they will leave most phones in the dust!
Since the emui 9 update ive gone back to the P20 Pro, battery life is epic and software is improved!

@@thinggol - I rate it better than my old devices (S8 plus and Note 8), selfie isn't great, reverse charging is kinda useless. The phone is very responsive, snappy i would say, screen resolution is best in the market. There are lot of new / hidden features like knocking the screen can take a screenshot, also you can register the two finger prints for 2 desktops. I am not a fan of EMUI so I highly recommend to use Nova launcher for this device.

I've had a Mate 20 Pro for 3 weeks and to be honest, I'm not really satisfied. Don't get me wrong, I love Huawei and I've been using Huawei products from 2011, but I expected more from this phone. I've been using it as my daily driver and I think ONLY ONCE I've got more than 7 hours of Screen-On-Time, usually I'm getting between 5 and 6 HOURS and all of this on a moderate use. I love the cameras, the screen, EMUI but the rest isn't as nice as I expected.
The face scan unlock is quite erratic and the same goes for the fingerprint sensor, often needing to use the fingers from my left hand (I'm right-handed) to unlock it, it annoyed me so I ended up turning it off. The selfie camera is OK, not much complaint. Connectivity isn't perfect either.
I've been keeping a regular Mate 10 as my second phone/work phone and I have to say, the selfie camera is better in the Mate 10 (8MP F2.0) and so is the face scan unlock, even in the dark. And lets not even speak about battery life. I wish this phone had a wide angle lens though!
Sadly I've decided I'll return the Mate 20 Pro. Mind you, I've loved the experience and love what Huawei has put together here but perhaps it wasn't the right time. I'll try the Mate 20 and if it doesn't work out I guess I'll wait for the P30 and so to come out.
Just turn down the screen resolution to make the battery life better, and try register your left thumb fingerprint rather than your right one. Hope this helps.
@@anpenguin9463 I had my both index fingers and thumbs registered, hence why I said I had to use the left hand. Also, a 20-30 minute gain in Screen On time isn't worth switching to Full HD+, believe I tried.

I had my Mate 20 Pro for a couple of weeks before I sold it, the main issues for me were the curved screen, which I found was a pain when using the keyboard. The other couple of issues were the fingerprint under the glass and face unlock, both were very hit and miss. In saying all that, I generally liked the build quality and the camera especially, so I ended up buying the Huawei mate 20 X. It's like the 20 Pro on steroids!
I have no complains regarding either the face recognition or the fingerprint scanner.
You can disable hitouch in settings and you can enable app drawer in settings.
I dont like Huawei since its its 100% regulated by Chinese govt, but it really is a head turning device and an engineering marvel. Phone has a big 4200 mah battery that outperforms Samsung's bloated note 9 at 4000 mah, second compact 7nm CPU, trades blows with androids best, while coming in a relatively light weight envelope, elegant form factor with an iconic gradient finish, better performance per watt then any Android I have seen since the LG V30.
Chinese govt are full of goblins but I cant deny this piece of great engineering.

Brought this phone in october! For me its the best of 2018. The extensive features are like no other, the battery is unbeatable and so is the camera! Hopefully the p30 and mate 30pro will be even better! The only bad thing is of course the hefty price!

tbh the reverse charging gets a lot of hate and it can be called a gimmick - but most of the tech we use today and love today was gimmicky and niche. touch screen, alexa, AI, fingerprint scanning, iris recognition, face scanning.. all of it. give huawei a chance. at least they’re actually trying to innovate.
Excellent video, just wanted to let you know that you can actually enable app drawer in the default launcher by going to Settings->Display->Home Screen Style
The launcher becomes really good after that. I have paid for Nova, but I'm still using the default one.
