- "Inside Out 2" finds 13-year-old Riley entering puberty, and experiencing all the awkward, complicated feelings that come with it. The sequel to the Oscar-winning 2015 Pixar film "Inside Out" features the new emotions of Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment and Ennui joining Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger and Disgust. We really enjoyed this movie with its mixture of clever word play, huge laughs and even a few tears. Directed by Kelsey Mann, written by Meg LeFauve and Dave Holstein. Starring Amy Poehler, Maya Hawke, Ayo Edebiri, Phyllis Smith, Kensington Tallman, Lewis Black, Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, Paul Walter Hauser and Adèle Exarchopoulos. In theaters now.

That was very sweet.
I loved this movie. It nailed the sports angle, which I didn’t expect. Riley’s anxiety pushes her to train like a maniac, showing how athletes get their heads in the game. And it doesn’t just stop there-it digs into how they balance that crazy drive, too.
As a former female ice hockey player, this reminded me of some of the emotions & experiences I felt at that time in my life like doubting how good I was & trying to impress the older kids. It didn't make me as emotional as you would think it would, but my standard might be too high after the movie Close which was nominated for Best International Feature.
This is easily in my top 10 Pixar movies. I love how it talks about what goes on in teenagers head when he hit puberty and trying to figure our who we are and who we want to be. I love how this movie talks about how every emotion is important and how it's important to have a balance of emotions. It's really smart in letting us know that everything the good and bad are important to make us whole
I was trying to figure out who voiced Anxiety, didn't know it was Maya Hawke until you guys mentioned it. I think this is her best role yet, great casting.
She showed a lot of range. Love her voice!
Not every Pixar moment has to have this big emotional moment to be good. I thought this was just as good as the first one and funnier and generally more entertaining.
This is very close to the original for me in terms of how much I enjoyed it and how meaningful I found it. It's true there's no "Bing Bong" moment, but I thought the "panic attack" climax and how that resolved itself was just as effective and emotional as its parallel moment in the first movie. I didn't notice the "MY HAT" gag in the second movie, but that's definitely a callback to the first one, where two of the cops are arguing over whose hat is whose because they both have "MY HAT" written in them.
One thing I wish this new movie had done was define the new emotions better -- at least Ennui, Embarrassment and Envy. We get a big scene in the first movie where Joy explains what all the emotions' jobs are (except Sadness, which we obviously learn over the course of the movie). Anxiety introduces herself and explains what she does and why Riley needs her, but we don't really get that with the other new emotions.
That is funny! Definitely need more Ayo Edebiri.
The sar-chasm but was SO clever
So many inspired bits of wordplay like that here.
Hot take: The bing bong moment is a bit overrated. I feel like there are way more emotional moments towards the end of the film.

Finally, someone says it don’t get me wrong. I love him with all my heart. I still have my Bing bong stuffy today because he’s an absolute keeper. but people focus so much on that one moment that they forget the focus on the end scene when Riley comes home from running away. which gets me every time
That doesn’t mean it’s still doesn’t make me feel emotional though. But the whole point of bing bong sacrificing himself is so Joy and sadness get back in time to save Riley. The whole point of the islands, falling down and bing bong fading is so Riley can move on.
Definitely moments everyone can relate to in the sequel.
In inside out 2 riley is getting new emotions because she is growing up and developing, but, does inside out 2 answer why those new emotions in riley weren't already present in her parents minds in inside out 1?
And if they make an inside out 3 and they give riley even more emotions, how come those new emotions in riley weren't already present in rileys parents mind since inside out 1?
Parenthesis I really felt like joy was designed to be the super heroine of the film for the hope of succession amongst your blood or vicinity, maybe one in every place you reside or live or ever lived, and the solution or conveyed splendor in a stigma generated as one of happiness and hard work or busy love. I felt like she was a monarch of any hero you come across and good in this world at the end, the gold keyboard haha. 😅+

I consumed like a large beverage, soda in a pg movie with a transformers trailer hawhaw, a Disney movie like a kids film. I was buzzed but it was gearing towards adults so it evened out haha. Enjoyed it very much, maybe another one of my favorite films. The red hair😢 thanks you guys!
Very impressive scores, I usually enjoy animated movies very enjoyable but very hard to get myself to watch. I think Zootopia was the last one I did and really enjoyed it, especially the sloths. lol.
Inside Out 2: Emotional Boogaloo
My Hat is a call back to the first movie. Guards at the unconscious. Wish the big dark secret came back at the end. Felt like a set up.
Yes, we’d forgotten that, but it still cracked us up 😆
I enjoyed it but I feel it wasn't as funny as the first and that setting it against the hockey camp weekend limited its scope. In the showing I was in semi surprisingly the adults laughed a lot more than the kids.
Christy here -- I laughed out loud a ton, and my kid goes: "Why are you laughing so hard?" :)
The sports theme really changed the tone, making it more external than the first one. Pete Docter is on record for saying of the first one that Riley is not a character in the film, but rather the setting. This second film is very much about a specific external narrative making it less intimate. The first film was a wholly original experience for viewers and by far superior. Sadly, for me this sequel wasn’t very special.
I can't remember the last time I ugly cried as hard as I did watching this movie. It's so good!!!!!!

Took my 4 year old, he liked it (only his second movie). This was great- almost as good as first. Loved the video game character, and cartoon dog and fanny pack (could’ve used more of them).
All that stuff was hilarious. Glad you and your son had fun! So great that you're taking him to the movies at such a young age.
I only saw the first film once but i was balling in the theater. I really wanted to let loose and cry in this film but, I barely got teary eyed. Slightly disappointed in that regard
It doesn't hit as hard, you're right. Hope you at least found it entertaining!
I thought the jokes landed better, and the emotional moments hit harder in the first movie. This movie is solid, but it did not reach the heights of the original for me. The original is a masterpiece in my opinion, but the sequel is a noticeable step down.

I thought the first film was a dull kids movie and I could not be less interested in a sequel.
Of course it is, it's a kid's movie lol.
How does this film’s depiction of early-teenage life & anxiety compare with Eighth Grade (Bo Burnham’s 2018 film)?
Well they have very different goals for very different audiences. Eighth Grade, which we love, is R-rated and is much more intimate and realistic (and cringe-inducing). Hope you enjoy!
@@BreakfastAllDay I love Eighth Grade (and the original Inside Out, to be clear), but have gotten the impression that this film pulls its punches to some degree about what it’s like to be a teenager, whereas Eighth Grade doesn’t. I’m still looking forward to seeing it- Eighth Grade is just the other film about teenage anxiety that came to mind as a point of comparison.
