Making a Duct Tape Dummy Head for Upcoming Fursuit build

- Decided to make one after I could not find a mannequin head for my size of head (24 inch circumference) at a reasonable price. Overall the dummy head turned out excellent, and stuffing it tight did not deform it. Throughout the process I checked the circumferences of the head and neck, and made sure that they didn't deviate more than 1/4" larger nor any smaller.

I’m gonna say this now. Imagine how terrifying it must be for someone to walk in on you putting tape over your head

Yooo I was looking for some interesting way to more accurately build my first fursuit head without the constant taking on and off of the base. Tysm ill without a doubt be using this tutorial when i do! ❤️
Make sure you don’t suffocate! I think you should have someone near you so you can get help when you need it! Good luck with your head!

I just picked up some stuff from my grandparents house to make a foam base so all I need now is fur fabric, mesh, and a mannequin head (which I'll be making with the help of this video) so my first time suit is going pretty smooth so far
Btw it's only a partial because it's for a friend but she's not able to come over plus we're only 15 and don't have enough money for it

I got aluminum foil and molded it into my head shape, covered it with paper, and then duck tape.

I bought polyurethane foam, to use as stuffing, its okay if i do it? Do you have anyy tips?
Rad man doing the duct tape method but using foil on a mannequin head and putting duct tape over it .
How to make it strong? What filling do you use? I tried to make one with paper mache, while it can hold it shape, it's not that strong to hold elastic that I'll use for moving jaw furhead tho.
I densely stuffed it with paper shreds, but I would recommend spray expanding foam instead

Can you use Glad wrap to put underneath the ducktape so it comes off?
i wouldn't recommend. I would use nylon stockings like how he used. you can find nylon stockings at the dolar general or really any store. for glad wrap to work you have to wrap it.... and wrapping glad wrap around your head isn't really a good idea

That all depends on your maker (or if you make it yourself, if you feel you need a base to keep dimensions sane). If you have a normal sized skull, you could easily find a mannequin head, mine has a 24inch circumference, so a lot of heads are out of the question, thus the need to make one.

I needed to make a head for the same reason (we done it the exact same way except I used a plastic bag on my head to put the tape on) but I never looked up a tutorial and I did not know what to use on the inside to harden it, so I looked up how to make a mannequin head in hopes of finding what to use on the inside, and then found this. Does the head still hold its shape today?
It held its shape but then it fell apart at the neck and the whole thing came undone. I recommend filling the interior cavity with spray foam instead of with paper

How could I prevent suffocation?
Avoid covering breathing openings (mouth, possibly mouth+nose, but never just nose), allow some clearance for it. Have somebody help you if at all possible

I used nylon stockings. Plastic wrap would be unwise. In fact, this whole thing is dangerous

Why not just buy a head mannequin? Head shapes aren't different enough to be worth making a DTD. Even with your size of head you can ask the maker for some leeway for a comfortable fit. Besides, you can't even pin anything to duct tape and it's too weak to stand by itself.
It is extremely difficult to find one in my size, or else I would have bought one. "Asking the maker" in my case is asking myself. And yes, the duct tape is kinda flimsy. For most people, you don't need to do this.
