I had the same issue with the stud snapping on my Mk6 GTi in exactly the same way! Found this cool tool that actually grips down and turns on the stud as you ratchet on the back! Worked flawlessly twice so it's now in my tool box at work!
On a 27 yr old corrado to remove exhaust bolts, all 8 of them I used a blow torch and had them glowing red, waited just till the harden up again a little and then wound them off. Didn’t want a snapped stud in the head. But found it was the only way to do it. Wd40 just didn’t cut it. Great video charles, you videos always help me on my passat
I love my awe exhaust. I got it used for cheap. Mine also has a resonator tho so it’s only a little louder than stock unless your flooring it. but as you can tell all the connections make it a pain. It can actually make the exhaust sag at the rear subframe because the hanger at the far back right is not used. So make sure the connections real tight. Just like a plugged bunghole.
Who remembers the MK5 GTI from mid 2018? This car now lives at FCPEuro HQ! Funny enough it has a lot of Instagram names on it and my big ol head! HAHAH
What’s your favourite penetrating oil? I personally have had the best luck with Seafoam Deep Creep. That’s from working on a rotted out, never undercoated, 2005 Explorer in Muskoka, Ontario, Canada.
A trick I use for removing broken studs, bolts, bleeder screws, ect, is to plug weld a nut to them. Quickly cool the nut and broken stud and put a wrench on it. Of course you need to have access to a welder.
I got lucky... drilled in slow, pressed hard, larger flute.. Then slow reverse and press in at the same time. Broke the thing loose. This was on the exhaust manifold for a Chevy 97' Silverado.
All your videos and tips are great❤️, i’m from South Africa (bought my first VW ‘83, Jetta GLI), currently own Mk5 early 2006, also busy by your tutorial on up-grading and doing certain modifications, we are a right hand drive country, BUT would like to see more videos on the Mk5 & 6 as i am buying the mk6 to go full out on it or maybe my mk5. Thanks for all the great work❤️💫💯🙌🏻
I have the old APR downpipe. The new style looks a lot better. That second bracket makes it possible to remove the front mount without pulling the whole exhaust system. I had a heck of a time getting the worn out front exhaust mount off my car to replace it.
I’m terrified to look at my bolts from the down pipe now bcuz I live in Canada, in an area where we use salt everywhere during the winter. Edit: I finally got started on it today and it was all rusted but I didn’t actually break anything! So happy that’s over with.
My car is sitting there with a car cover for winter.... This is why I went to my 2011 for winter... The 2001 bolts sheared off in the turbo.... Spring time turbo removal, sigh. I tried days of penetrating oil too
Do you have to drill out the flange hole to fit a bolt through it? I had a stud back out complete during uninstall and now I would rather replace with a hex bolt than try to reinstall the stud. Seems easier to me, but I'm not sure if the flange holes are meant to thread a bolt from the turbo-side from stock. I don't wanna jack up the threads.
That's the same stud on the turbo that broke on me as well and it wasn't even rusted. I didnt have a 90-degree drill, so I just installed with 3 of the 4 nuts, so far so good, lol.
@@HumbleMechanic Well, unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it!) I think my turbo is on it's way out so I can go ahead and take care of that when I upgrade the turbo. :D
Would it be better to use a nut splitter at the outset for the downpipe connection to avoid breaking the studs? Can the nut splitter fit in there well enough to use? I'd like to replace my entire exhaust but I am concerned about all the problems with breaking the exhaust studs.
Nice work Charles. I have an mk6 gti I bought not to long ago. Very nice. I can see why GTI's are so popular. Thinking of getting rid of my mk4 Jetta gli for an mk5 gti. The mk6 is just sweet. But that fsi motor that is on them scares me a little. Our b6 Passat 06 is a little more than I bargained for. Is there much of a difference between the mk5 motor and b6??. Like I said thse gti is nicer then my gli. Thanks
Hello my friend How are you .. first I need to thank you for your videos they help uss a lot and i see your videos many many times .... and second .. I have just one question I have skoda fabia its the same like GOLF 4 and i have a problem i need to change the anti roll bar drop link but the lower screw its rust a lot and I cant remove ... I clean with the brush and put a WD 40 ... but does not work should I leave 1 2 days or how can I remove .... THnx a million times .... my friend all love from Sweden ..
Charles, why has the standard Golf 5 an Aluminium-Subframe even witn the small 75PS-Engine and the MK7 Golf R not. Is there an disadvantage on this Aluframe or so ?
Oh MKV. How I miss thee. But not. Even these days the FSI comes out smelling like roses after the bad taste the TSI Tiggy left w me. And I was expecting a Lebowski reference when you were removing the O2s lol. Well dude, sometimes you eat the bar.... and sometimes the bar eats you. 🤣🤣
Ah the Imperial measurement, I remember that system. New exhaust system, new hardware fixings, new brackets... old rusty O2 sensors Awhaaaaa?!.. I suppose it’s in fitting with the theme xD
OH YES..... this is the real deal, bolts rusted "too the nines" that don't want to come off. Please everyone this is where your money goes when you pay the nice man/woman at the garage.

I love how nice the climate is to my cars in the Mojave desert. I’ve never owned anything with rust.
Yeah. And with that all the rubber drys out and dashes crack. I’ll take that over rust any day. 👽👍

Link to the tool?
That magnetic tray trick is frickin' genius.
0:19 that was a lot of movement. Perhaps time to change the engine mounts?
Yep. The car had a lot of issues

You’ve been doing these modification videos lately ........... and I love it !!!
Thanks! Some times that is more funner
HumbleMechanic I live in Atlanta but I’ll definitely go to you when I turbo upgrade my Vw cc !!! Keep on grinding brother !
Those bolts where rusted af. Wow good job getting them off.
It's so refreshing to see something that isn't LS on the internet. Thanks friend.
HAHA no LS here.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW HM AND FAMILY
I see it when I do local pick up. They are always recording how-to's when I go too
wished this system was going to my car instead! Thats top notch quality!!
Judging by the way that engine wanted to escape the engine bay, next mod, upgraded engine mounts.
you have to anyways as they go weird
Thanks for this! Good to see how a pro does this.
just got a resonator delete on the stock exhaust on my mk5 gti. sounds amazing but the only downside is the droning you get at certain rpm's

Yep that’s a great way to do it
Partner with FCP!!!! Awesome. I love dealing with them
They are great aren’t they!
Finally a MK 5 video!

Where did you get the apr downpipe..cant find it online
Quick question, that tool you used to pop off the rubber hangers at 7:12, where’d you get it or that is it called?
love the install vids. i went stage 2 on my mk6 about 40k miles ago.
Hey Charles. What can I do to fix that silly stutter on cold starts? I noticed this mk5 had it too. Thanks! Great work!
07:18 anyone else squinting .. i can feel that in my eyes lol . great job mate love the channel
Hahahhaha
Merry Christmas Charles to You and Your Family, Thankyou:):)
Thank you so much. Merry Christmas

Hey can you do videos about the mk5 1.4 tsi? Id love that😊
Nice video. Thank you Charles.
Question, why the reduction piece, I thought you would want the same size all the way to the tailpipe? Thanks ahead. Nice exhaust and video.
Both are meant to fit the stock parts.
So many clamps!!
Definitely more MK5 videos so I can convince my roommate to tune his car finally. :)

U need a fire torch for it to work with the drill?

It must have a a lot easier job being a tech back 30 /40 years ago when cars were bigger and and more room under the hood and a lot easier to work on
It’s a mixed bag. We have so much more info from the car now.
Did you need any sealant for the exhaust joints?
2 funniest words, bunghole and flanges 🤣🤣
Rusty bolts give me a bellyache 😔
The worst is when you go to do headers and 7/8 studs snap #4.6 2v rust gang
You still found no drone when day to day driving and highway driving? Have a APR downpipe and wanted to get the exhuast
Can you do a cat delere without violating the State emissions?? We don't use cats on our modded Vdubs
Full delete no, but High flow is usually good
Pretty...love shiny objects 😀
Good video as always 🙇 question do you think that is possible to install a electronic parking brake in an old car???
Now we're gonna go ahead and plug our bunghole.
That looked like fun
Are we ever getting the tint video?
Cool video. You should do the full exhaust on the Golf R before it gets too rusty.
Lol thanks

motor mounts anybody???
HAHA That car had a LOT of issues. like a lot

How’d you get the bottom 2 bolts loose there’s no room
Where you buy Exhaust Tip?
Whats your option on the banks power monster exhaust for the mk6 tdis?
Great Video!!
thanks! :)
How's the drone / interior noise? Back in the day, I did a resonator delete and hi-flow cat, and the drone was horrific.
It wasn’t bad. Louder than I’d want for my car, but I don’t want my car loud. Lol
I got a 2011 gti can that same set work? If yes I'll like to order one
I have a mk5 gti with no tune and no o2 spacer i know il get a cel on but will it go into limp mode?! Also have upgraded dv
Charles, why has the standard Golf 5 an Aluminium-Subframe even witn the small 75PS-Engine and the MK7 Golf R not.
Is there an disadvantage on this Aluframe or so ?
My guess is cost. I heard about guys doing an Audi subframe but it doesn’t seem worth the $ to me
Very cool! Time to scare the neighbors!
Charles, was it this project that made you realize you needed a bigger workspace and give you the onus to get it done?
Hahaha In a way yes.
Quick question Charles
I just destroyed wing mirror on My golf mk7
Is it just 2 bolts I need to take off to replace
Or is it complicated to fix
Thanks
It’s that and a connector. In my power fold mirror video, I do step by step on how.
Okay thanks happy Christmas 🎄
I like the Rusto-Mod name... LOL 😄
I’m considering getting another mk5 2.5 I have some goodies like awe exhaust and golf r Pretoria rims
AWESOME!! Those Pretoria wheels might be my fav VW wheels
Esta muito ferrujado este carro!
everyone else "those motor mounts tho" me "HOLY DAMN A DEDICATED PROTECTED SPOT FOR THE LOLIPOP"
Pretty sweet huh!!!
I would have replaced the bolts. Easy with a torch. Just get the bolt flange red they come right off.
With the red drill he use ?
Oh MKV. How I miss thee. But not. Even these days the FSI comes out smelling like roses after the bad taste the TSI Tiggy left w me.

Ah the Imperial measurement, I remember that system.
New exhaust system, new hardware fixings, new brackets... old rusty O2 sensors Awhaaaaa?!..
I suppose it’s in fitting with the theme xD
Lol if I had new sensors I’d install them too.
I was looking at getting a MK6 is there any advice or thing to look out for ? Thanks !
Biggest Thing is timing chains and oil/coolant leaks
How often does the timing chain need replacing ?
My face when he said "plug our bunghole"😳
Is that downpipe legal to use on the road? How do we know if a catted downpipe is legal?
Typically they will list it as compliant t.
Why do you have to warm up the engine for changing the exhaust
Helps the penetrant work and bolts come loose
@@HumbleMechanic okay.
Thank you
I am a simple man. I see MKV, I thumbsup. What are your thoughts on cheapo downpipes btw Charles?
Be ready for meh fitment
I have a stock 2.0 fsi in my passat, is that motor stock on your mk5 stock?
Yep. Minus this exhaust and air intake
@@HumbleMechanic thanks for getting back to me, hopefully I can get it done as gracefully
warning: gas tank strap is a nightmare to get back on :)
Very much
Let's see the timing chain inspection 😎👍
I don’t have the car anymore.
HumbleMechanic
Ah ok, I just saw this was a new vlog and thought you had it back
Keep up the excellent work 😎
Nah it’s up with FCP. I don’t think she’s aged well lol
I have a question if you can answer me please dose a vw mk6 v6 3.6 2011 engine have a timing chain or belt in it?
Timing chain
@@HumbleMechanic thanks alot for your help that was an insane fast reply thow it took you like 20 seconds lol thanks again

You should do like a total rebuild on this car, engine, frame, interior etc...please like so HM can see this.
I’m planning a full rebuild on something else much cooler
What's going on with your R32??
She’s great. Next video in her might be rear bushings
OH YES..... this is the real deal, bolts rusted "too the nines" that don't want to come off. Please everyone this is where your money goes when you pay the nice man/woman at the garage.
those studs nuts are a bitch to get off without breaking the studs. my suggestion is getting a nut splitter and chop them off.

7:15 - Ahhh! Dude! You should have given us some warning or some eye protection! I now have rusted metal in my eyes ⚠️😵
so many claps yaiks,
Sure let's reuse the old o2s LoL
I mean if it’s not bad🤷♂️ it’s a few hundred dollars you don’t have to spend. And if it goes bad it’s easy to replace.
Iam looking to buy a MK5 GTI with DSG the "BWA" Engine code should I go for it?
no stay far away.
