JJ put up 22 TDs and 4 INTs in a Michigan offense that ran the ball an insane amount. He didn’t have great receivers like the rest of the QBs and their offense is so run heavy, especially near goal line. He has all the skills and in any solid vertical passing offense, he is putting up big time numbers. Michigan was blowing out teams many games and sat Jj in their 4th quarters. He’s done extremely well with limited reps. Hyper efficient, under center/shotgun, elite improviser, great throwing on the run and as an improviser. He really puts rare velocity on his passes and has good pocket feel and footwork.
I haven't seen it. In the championship game McCarthy threw seldom, and then it was almost exclusively sidelines, short outs, nothing deep or between the hash marks. He looks like a conservative game manager with scrambling skills that will eventually get him killed.
@@jimbo92107 Yeah the plays don’t have his receivers running go routes, mostly outs/slants/crossers. The offense fits the skills of their weapons: Corum, Edwards, Roman Wilson, Colston Loveland. These are not vertical type players, it’s power football and the short range type of receiving.
@@jimbo92107 they looked extremely different in the playoff. They were playing against two great secondaries. He’s a year away but he has the tools to be great.
@@jimbo92107 Did you see his one handed catch against Alabama where he spun and threw the ball 30 yards downfield while Dallas Turner ran him over? No other QB in this draft is making that play. JJ is by no means a game manager.

3rd best qbr in the country this year, 2-4 years younger than the other QBs in the class, can make throws 99% of QBs can’t, great leader, completely unselfish team first guy, 27-1 as a starter, tough as nails, played in NFL offense. It’s not hard to see what they like.

McCarthys low volume may worry some, but i think he played to his teams scheme very well & overall he’s shown hes a WINNER. Hes smart, athletic, and fairly disciplined for someone who maybe plays there best “off script”, which are great traits that translate well to the next level.

JJ is a winner plain and simple and a great leader . He’s been a winner everywhere he has played .
I’m sure that if Coach Harbaugh needed him to pass for 350 yards a game he would have , No Problem .
But that’s not what he was asked to do . He was told to RUN the offense ! Not be a manager of it and that’s exactly what he did .
This young man is going to be for real in the NFL and I hope it is for the Falcons. This guy has franchise QB written all over him, even at the age of twenty.
Falcons will screw up and not get him,.

Yet another indictment of Ryan Day, who shafted JJ in favor of McCord.
Its not about numbers in Michigans offense, its about EFFICIANCY.
JJ had the 2nd highest completion percentage this season and the 3rd highest QBR behind Nix and Daniels.

JJ makes throws perhaps 20% (at most) of college QBs can make. That is all you really need to know. His upside is unlimited.

I feel like jj is the perfect fit for ATL... they need a qb to come in and not need to do to much.. skeme around bijon n tyler, drake, and kyle pitts.... on the flip side.. i think penix would be a stat in either new york market.. but the vikings have to be staring him down...

He will be a steal…believe me he is not the guy to win yards leaders or mvp but can make a team do what the team is supposed to do in order to do to win
What happened to Penix shows the effect of your O Line getting beaten by your opponent's D Line, all game long. No QB does well with hands in his face and a ferocious pass rush breathing down his neck. To his credit, Penix still got off some impressive throws. I still think he's going to be a great passing QB in the pros.
Agreed, though with his knees held together by twine I doubt he goes very high and I doubt he lasts more than 4-5 years in the NFL, which is a shame, since he’s by all accounts a good kid.

Based on their level of play, yes. When they faced a great defense, however, they were exposed for being the best O-line in the Pac12, which isn’t at all the same thing.
Penix will be 24 when he shows up for rookie camp. He has two repaired knees. Hes pretty much hit his ceiling while JJ's ceiling is much higher.

What being in control of games? Being unselfish and doing whatever it takes to win? Michigan was smarter than everyone else in college football this year. Playing injured from the Penn State game to Alabama? It hurt like hell for him to plant his left foot to throw. He completed 73% of his passes and he played way better defenses than penix. And other QB who hve 4000 yards

Watched his "highlights." He needs a running start to throw more than 30 yards. His downfield runs look like reckless driving. He dinks and dunks, very conservative game manager. Might become a good NFL backup.

@@AwesomestGreatestMostestFunny JJ needs to sit behind someone for a year or two. He will grow in size and hone his skills, but trust me you dont want him to start day 1. I love JJ and I want him to succeed and I think his best chance is sitting for a bit. The Packers have consistent talent at QB for this reason. The players get acclimated to the org and learn without the insurmountable pressure from a fanbase calling them shit all the time.
