I legitimately got chills when The Endurance came looming out of the darkness. The music picked up, the haunting melody played, and that lost vessel appeared as though she had sunk only a days ago instead of over a century. Both beautiful and terrifying. A memory frozen in time, 2 miles beneath the waves.

Ah, what a great reward after a day of work. I'm excited to watch this one. :D
1:45 Seeing the Chimera on the left already makes me smile. Good start.
3:15 I felt a bit proud that I remembered the name Osedax from previous videos. The teaching was successful. (40 tons of whale = 2000 years of marine snow, you really hammered that into my head)
4:45 Wow. The amount of life at display is incredible.
You have really boosted my interested in chemosynthetic microbes. I didn't expect them to even live from byproducts from other "lower level" animals. The length of these food chains is astonishing. But I wonder how those mussels get to the wood fall. ...and mere seconds after writing the question you already answered it. This feels really interactive. :)
Overall a fantastic video. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
(and a little remainder that I had sent you another mail some time ago. Now I know that one of the creatures I show there is a sea squirt.^^ And if it takes you two months to answer, that's still perfectly fine, lol. Good luck with university!)

Fascinating. I had known, sort of, about how mussels reproduce by flinging their larva into the currents, but I'd got the idea that those larva had a short amount of time to find someplace to settle down. But listening and learning here, I wonder now just how long they really have? It can't be a SHORT trip from seep to whale fall - "tens of kilometers" may not seem far to us with ships and ROVs but that seems like a journey of epic length for a sessile creature! Also, is the same floating-larva method of reproduction used by the bone eating worms and tube worms? I found myself astonished over and over during the video at how many "non mobile" creatures seem to magically appear on the bones and the wood. It's plain that the tube worms did not WALK there, haha, but at the same time it still seems like a miracle that they are there at all.
Once more, a wonderfully edited and scripted piece of work. You always put such thought and care into your presentation and it's superb every time. I look forward to the next one!

This is so interesting. I just stumbled across your channel. Whale carcasses remind me of the dead trees lying on the ground in the woods. It has always amazed me how much life a dead tree supports. Anything from squirrel and woodpecker homes to mushrooms, moss, insects and more. I was able to witness a huge cottonwood tree die from a lightning strike. I watched it over the years in stages of decay. It took nearly a decade to finally fall over. Now it's a log on the ground still supporting life almost 15 years after it was killed by that bolt
Edit: oh my gosh I made this comment before seeing the part about fallen trees. Amazing 😁
