not sure why our Lloyd has put this song to bed.. he played it our 25th wedding anniversary and had me and my wife, as well as the guests in tears.. he also played it at a fundraiser when we lost our house in a fire 6 years ago...we are getting close to our 40th, so maybe i can get him to pull it out from the covers for that occasion.. love the man, and love this song.. such a good performer, and the world is finally discovering our Australian genius
He retired it from his set list after playing it at a funeral, as a respectful gesture to someone that was really close to him. He’s an absolute class act and a legend.
Was this the gig at Albert Part Sailing Club?.........I saw him there upstairs there, the room was small about 100 sq meters and the acoustics were incredible, about 30 people sat on plastic chairs and witnessed the performance of Over the Rainbow, being a guitar player myself, i was blown away with the technicality of the guitar playing, the power of his voice was bellowing so loud to the point of the walls shaking like we were in an earthquake. His tone beamed similarities to American Jeff Healey. We had an intermission and the Sailing club supplied us with refreshments and at the start of the second set he comically thanked everyone for attending this "annual general meeting" of the Sailing club, which it did feel like. Overall it was a cracking display of a man possessed by music ability. May he always play Over the Rainbow.
You want the best version of this, you gotta get Lloyd's live CD from a Melbourne gig. That CD must be 10 years old now. No one has ever done a better version of this song than Lloyd did that night.

Happy 40th. Thanks for Lloyd.

Jeff Healey is Canadian, not American.
