Just started watching your channel, and live in New Zealand. Great content in your vids.
I have been fishing for over 50 years, both in boats and off the rocks but my passion is rock fishing.
There are scary, life threatening risks being taken in this vid. Watch an area for a good 15 minutes before fishing off it. If the waves are breaking onto the ledge you are going to fish off, or look like they may in time, don’t go onto it. An outgoing tide doesn’t mean it will necessarily get safer either - the wave amplitude, length and crest can get worse on incoming or outgoing tide. It was pretty obvious even early on in the vid that swells were cresting over the rock.
Emotions play a very big part in fishing, and it is easy to get caught up in the moment. No fish is worth dying for. Always be watching the sea.
You are a good guy, a superb chef, and produce great vids. Let’s make sure they keep coming for a long time into the future.
Be safe. Thank you.
Taku, just some advice on plugging for monsters off the rocks. I do the same out here on the big island of Hawaii. Get yourself a pair of rock spike tabis. Gamakatsu makes a really good one that's spike/felt bottom but they only sell it in Japan. Also, you probably want a pair of long reach needle nose pliers for dehooking. What happened to you could've been way worse. I had a friend who got the treble stuck in his hand while still attached to the fish. It was a big bluefin trevally and it was still kicking while attached to him. It's not a bad idea to carry a first aid kit with your tackle. For antiseptic I like to use antibacterial hand soap with benzalkonium chloride. It's the same stuff surgeons use to prep incisions. It wont burn you like other antiseptics. And lastly I know you have a deal with Okuma but according to the Morning Tide Fishing guys (Brooksy, Briggsy, Cavy) they ssy you have to have the best of the best when it comes to fishing GT's, any weakness in your equipment will show. That's why they fish Zenaq and other top Japanese rod makers. Cheers from Hawaii bro! Stay safe and keep the videos coming!
Sound advice cosigned from Oahu
Cavy:s channel is the shit I didnt mean to be a dick about your gear but Okuma isnt good and no quality stick is going to snap there
Yeah okuma gear aint cutting it... The best of the best is required for GT, Shimano Stella, Daiwa Saltiga, Zenaq etc.
Big island represent!!! I should ask my homie what he uses for ulua. He brought up a 100 pounder a while back
Take taku to South point down at suicide rock. Show him the way!
All very very solid advice.
Dude glad you’re ok… I always wonder what would happen to RUclipsr’s that go out by themselves.. I’m sure most have someone they know that know where they are or are going to be.. but it’s scary to think that you could fall and not even be incapacitated.. just to injured enough to climb that rock face.. glad your good bro keep it up.. love my Taku Tuesdays. ❤
Doesn’t have to be a you tuber, it could any of us that fish alone!
Holy cow, that was intense. I felt like I was there with you. Glad you’re ok though but LETS GO!!! Nice redemption Taku!!
Damn, what a crazy catch. The size, the rod breaking, the injury, and the wave to top everything off...
Wow, that video sounds intense! It's incredible how a fishing trip can take unexpected turns. On a different note, if you're into outdoor adventures, I highly recommend checking out the Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series. It's a reliable power backup solution with features like massive capacity, fast recharging, and waterproof technology. Perfect for camping and RV trips!
This episode is probably my favorite you’ve ever made and I’ve been watching since the beginning. Congrats, man!
definitely one of the best videos in terms of Storytelling... It had all of it danger, drama, tragedy and redemption.... great job on this one.
You know, as I'm watching this video, I am convinced that the haters who said you were too small and weak to reel those fish in have no idea what they're talking about. Every time you lost a fish with the exception of the one that basically attacked you with the hook, it was because the line snapped. That has absolutely nothing to do with your physical strength or stature. At any rate, I love this video and I hope you continue making these.
I'm glad you got that wound taken care of, some people don't know it could be deadly. A Texan fisherman died this summer after getting poked by a gafftop catfish and he didn't get it disinfected. I carry a small first aid kit for that reason.
I was going to suggest bring Jocelyn with you. She seems like she brings you a lot of good luck. She was there when you caught that big king fish and now a big GT! Congrats Taku finally did it! 😁💪👏
Being that it’s the 2nd time you’ve been there, I’m so shocked at how unprepared you are to fish that location. Equipment to easier land the fish, a fish clamp so it’s easier to de-hook the fish.
Haters are going to hate, but takes a big man to be open to criticism. I have watched and seen your advancement from a chef attempting to fish to becoming an accomplished angler. Always love your content!
My heart was racing this entire video! Even more suspenseful knowing you were going to get hooked in the leg after seeing it on IG. I was wincing the entire time waiting for it!
Glad you landed the GT! Those are narly fishing spots!
Damn this episode had my heart racing!! Be careful out there Taku! As a long time fan and hopefully speaking for others as well, we need you around for more videos!
May I make a small highly divisive suggestion?
Switch to a Left hand retrieve reel. You seem to be Right-handed, small guys like us need every advantage we can get with big powerful fish. Fight with your strong arm, reel with the weak, and use your legs to power the fish.
What was that first fish? Do you know? Looked kinda like a Cubera Snapper to me. And I would have called that a perfect release. You win the battle even with a broken rod! Crazy!
Glad you’re okay Taku! And so stoked for you on your ʻulua! I nearly cried at the end when everyone was there to cheer you on as well. 😂 congrats brother!
Dude!!! Awesome man. So happy for you. There is nothing like the purity of the joy on your face w that one. So cool bro. Yesssssss!!!!
That could have been a thousand times worse than what it was glad you’re okay keep up the great content Taku
congrats on bringing in the gt!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 and glad you're ok! that was some gnarly fishing and those fish were humongous! continued travel mercies and blessings.🕊
That was one of the most exciting videos you've created. Super happy you got your GT. Safe travels and keep up the good work.
Such an amazing video Taku!! This rarely happens to me once in a while but somehow my emotions were fully connect to this video, it felt like I was fishing with you.
Monster! Stoked you still landed it. Crazy how you can hear it hit your lure!
Idk! Looked like some kind of grouper
Wow, Taku! Incredible. Congrats
Now this was a movie! Happy for you, Taku! Love your content! Please be safe and take care always Taku and Jocelyn!
You seem right handed, you should reel with your left.
Congratulations 🍾 Had your Lady with you too! What more could a man want!
Awesome, great video. Congrats on the Fish.
Very intense. Great fish and even better job staying as calm as possible after a big treble wound!!
Congratulations, to you! So awesome!
This is definitely my favorite video you’ve posted, and please don’t fish for big fish alone. Probably should have a buddy just because of the location but I get that. Fish safe!
Love you taku! So stoked for you on this catch 🤙🏼
Kind of crazy how anyone says you're too small for these fish lol.. its that cliff that is hella sketchy man. Have anyone big or small go there, one slip forward and youre gone. So small minded some people are.
ppl are just being d*cks. no need to address them.
Congratulations Taku!💪🏽
48” 200-250# steel leader. Period. We use that for Cubera Snapper in Baja when fishing the rocks from boat or shore . These monsters aren’t “line shy” This is the way .
Congratulations Taku on your Mission accomplished. that was fun to watch
Dang Taku! Please don’t die on us😂 fr though I’m glad you’re alright
Well done! You got there in the end, happy for ya'
That was a massive coral trout!!!
I don’t think Okuma is too happy.🥲
Wow, that was an intense fishing video. I'm glad you are safe, and you eventually caught your GT. I was with you the entire time, rooting you on. Stay safe and keep providing quality videos.
Amazing fishing, glad you got what you came for!
@shimano @daiwa please put some fighting gear in his hands! 🤙🏽
Wild ride! Congrats!
YOU DID IT TAKI!!!!! CONGRATS!!! WOOOOOO
Great content, bro.
As a Niuean living in Brizzy, I also fish.
I have a saying, "Never take a knife to a gunfight."
I get laugh at over here on the fishing charters until I land mine.
I'm not a sports fisherman, I'm after a feed.
I use 80lb braid and 200lb 9 foot trace, and that's with a Saragosa 2000.
How I'd love to get my hands on a Stella...Nice fish, too. Well done.
congrats and good work Taku!!!
Congratulations! You are a badass. Not only reaching your goal, but landing that coral cod with only a reel. Pretty amazing. Thanks for the content and of course the Chef skills/recipes.
Great action, Taku!
Awesome video to wake up to! Cant say it enough times, your videos are just great! Keep them coming!
YOOOO be careful dude holy crap! Glad you are ok. That was a fun fight to watch, and great camera angle for it.
Man them cliffs are gnar! Be safe brotha , persistence pays🤙🏽
Longnose pliers dawg.. gotta prepare when big fish like that are around.
So happy for you, man!

Enjoyed this one. Congrats!
Nice job brother! Glad you got one!
Great stuff Taku!!
Wow! The fish looked incredible!
I'm so proud of you ❤ That is a story to tell the world and you have the scars to prove it 🤘 I'm glad you're ok 😊 as a fisherman you have to do some crazy stuff to catch your quarry. Keep it up, Godspeed.
Mission accomplished. Job well done 👍
Congratulations. What a fish.
You did it 👍👍👍
Awesome congratulations
You're a loose unit mate! Love ya work!
what a wild ride! Congrats 😎
Great video Taku!
Nice bro! Happy for you!
Great video, be safe out there.
That kind of rock is sooooo prickly! I can't believe I used to walk on rocks like that barefoot when I was a kid in Hawaii.
Happy you accomplished what you set out to do! That was a nice catch! Pretty scary watching those waves hit you on that cliff! That broken pole was too much!
So happy for you, Taku. You're a warrior! I think that big fish that spiked you may have been a coral grouper (aka coral trout). Huge specimen if it is!
That was intense. Glad you got one in the end.
A big congrats all the way from South Africa.
lots of respect to you!
Congrats on the GT.............!!!!
Watched both videos and both were awesome!!!! That fish was massive!!!! Exciting video's
Really scary but gorgeous that spot! Unbelievable. Congratulations for the achievement 🎉
Hey, Taku! First, these videos are getting more and more awesome!
I also wanted to comment on that first fish, the blacksaddled coral trout. It's a species of grouper, and like most groupers, they are highly delicious to eat, but one has to be careful. Like the other members of this family, they mainly feed on other fish, who in turn feed off algae in the reefs that contain the organisms which cause ciguatera poisoning. Many reef fish species are liable to carry the ciguatoxin. Just wanted to throw in my small dose of knowledge.
Great catches on this one! Glad your leg didn't fall off from sepsis
What an epic battle. An absolute banger of a video! 👏🏽 👏🏽
Success!!!! Way to go Taku!
This might be the craziest catch I've seen on RUclips! Nice catch dude!!
first off, very glad you're ok Taku! secondly, I personally would've quit trying after so many broken lines and lost lures, mad respect to you for continuing to chase those big ole GT, and eventually catching one! very happy for you Taku, Excellent video as always!
Really a poetry in motion taku this is the best video ever you fought through a plug in the leg a tackle from the wave and depression ❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉f-ing love it bro
cool vid bruh awesome fishing spot ! keep up the great fishing and cook videos !
Congrats! Dude awesome video!
Well done.
Love your adventures brother
Niue is a beautiful place not many will ever go, the blue lagoons and cliff-like sides of the ocean created the action-pack images of a tropical adventure/quest in search of the elusive GT, Congrats Taku on your catch it looked like the angler coveted Cubera Snapper. , Although it looked a little sketchy at times, it made for great content. safe travels to you and Jocyln.
That was an hella exciting fishing story!
What insanity!! Great job Taku!!
Coral trout looks like!!!! Enormous!!! I follow many guys from down under, haven't caught something so big!!! Congrats man!!!
Congrats Taku!!!!
Can't watch this one, man. Don't want to see you get hurt. Stay well, Taku!
