cultural exchange, lost in the pond, moving to America, British expatriate, American products, expat life, British perspective, British culture, cultural differences, living in America, things Americans love, British humor
“Don’t even have to bend down now…” I didn’t realize that BP2 was my British doppelgänger but it would appear we have crossed into that territory lol.
Adirondack chairs hat I'm use to are wood not plastic and harder to clean and yes, very difficult to get out of, especially when old.
American here. I wholeheartedly endorse Skechers as my shoe of choice (except when I play pickleball). I have never worn Vans. Drive thrus are found on more that fast food restaurants--we have them on banks and drug stores too. By the way, love the channel. I discovered it a few weeks ago and have been perusing your videos since.
I thought Adirondack chairs would be really uncomfortable until I sat in one. They are SOOO comfortable! Also, America is such a car culture, and I thought every Western country was the same. It wasn't until I talked to an Englishman and found out he didn't even have a car. I found from a friend in South Africa that she thought Americans were snobby because we all have multiple cars. Then she came to visit and saw that you HAVE to have a car to survive, because most of America is small towns and countryside and houses aren't close enough to each other or to businesses to walk or even ride bikes. The whole drive-through thing is probably not very healthy, but it is definitely derived from our car culture.
Here’s your history lesson on Adirondack chairs:
1) The Adirondacks are a mountain range in northern New York State.
2) Mountain ranges have MOUNTAINS, and their younger siblings, hills.
3) The Adirondack Chair was invented so when you put the chair on a hillside, and you face it in the appropriate direction, it seats you LEVEL. That’s why on a flat surface, it leans you backward.
There will be a test on this tomorrow.
Aluminum and aluminium are spelled differently. By the way, we say root and route in America. Personally, I say both words and the word I use depends on the context and or situation. The same goes for Fall and Autumn. Both are said and used daily in the US. Sometimes it depends on the situation and/or context. There are reasons for both words.
I love the bank and pharmacy drive thrus. I can drive thru to see a bank teller, or just use an atm, without getting out of the car. Same with picking up prescriptions. Great to stay out of the rain here in the pacific northwest!
Both spellings of omelette and omelet are used in the US.
Drive-thrus are for everything and everywhere in the US. I do not need to leave my car at all. Moreover, there are drive-thrus weddings in Las Vegas. There are Drive-thrus at liquor stores in some states as well.
Well, BP2 nailed it on the air conditioning even though it wasn't officially on this list. For most, it's an absolute necessity here in Florida. And BP1 was exactly right about the Adirondack chairs being difficult to get out of. I know that from personal experience. I prefer a good rocking chair on the porch actually. Great reaction once again guys. - Hawk
Yeah, the hot and cold water systems will be separate, as the hot needs to come out of the hot water heater. The water is mixed at the tap. Or i should say at the faucet? The taps are the things you open and close to make the water flow. I'm losing my mind.😂
AlumINium - your extra syllable makes me chuckle. Not sure why. Probably because i really enjoyed chemistry class in school.❤❤
We have a room outdoor that is enclosed on three sides for like a man cave and on my Adirondack chair I put the beer in the remote
Chemist Humphry Davy originally named it "aluminUM". Later, Davy changed it to "aluminIUM", which aligns with metals sodIUM and PotassIUM, which Davey isolated and named. AFAIK, there was an 'agreement' to use "aluminIUM" ①, but the USA had already used "aluminUM" for decades. Eventually a 'chemistry conference' agreed both spellings were valid.
Best Wishes. ☮
① However, I can't site the source, so that might be wrong.
The key to Adirondack chairs is you scooch your ass forward before you try to stand up.😅
If you want to sit forward for a chat with someone they are not ideal in my opinion.
If you want to lean back and chill they are pretty comfortable.

Did he say friends have to bring outdoor chairs? Did he buy just one?
When Laurence said drive-thrus he was also talking about drive-thru pharmacies,
banks/ATMS, etc. BTW, you guys may laugh at this but you always give yourselves away
online with your spelling. For example people from the UK and Europe spell "flavor" with
an U (flavour). Unless i'm completely mistaken.
The dead giveaway for me is "whilst." In addition to the "u's to confuse" ❤❤

As an American, hearing hard Gs in -ing really annoy the hell out of me. But they're not even Gs, they're more like Ks.
