    I absolutely love your designs. I have made many. This one, I must say, is the crown jewel! I too, love larger afghans, not to say I haven't made many of your baby afghans, but this one will be on my hook as soon as the yarn arrives. Thank you Bonnie for sharing your techniques and wonderful designs with the yarn community. You are a blessing to us! God Bless. ❤

    Exquisite Celtic Braided Throw! Crochet cables intimidated me for years since I began crocheting about five years ago. But this year, I challenged myself to learn to crochet cables with the aide of your awesome videos and I’ve become quite successful. I will challenge myself yet again with this pattern. Thank you for helping me conquer crochet cables!

    DEFINITELY NOT INTERMEDIATE but more advanced. I have made many patterns from Bonnie Bay: hat, scarf, shawls 2, another one with a loose back, about five or six throws but this pattern is the most difficult. Counting the stitches after the crossing is difficult and the video is not clear with this and this would have been the biggest help. However, I never had a problem with any other videos and all my other Bonnie projects came out perfect. I have the written pattern as well as playing the video on various and repeated speeds but the major problem was counting where the following stitches are placed. Sometimes slowing the video is not clear.

I love your designs and I am currently having a go at this beautiful large Afghan you have created here (I am too using Paintbox simply aran), although I could not have even thought about giving this a go without your wonderful and calm tutorials - so thank you so much for sharing all of your designs with us it is very kind of you. I have made many, many Bonnie projects which include three capes, 5 blankets, hat, scarfs, etc etc and this is by far the most difficult to follow, both with video and written directions. I even played the video on the absolutes slowest speed and watched multiple times. I watched on the large screen computer as well. I have over $100 in the recommended yarn so I can not give up. Yesterday, I spent over 6 hours and the day before another over 6 hours and today so far 3 hours. The video problem is not showing exactly which stitch to use. Some of the stitches shown are clear but some are not.

    This is a beautiful design. And, while I appreciate that you make accommodations for beginners, there's no getting around the fact that this is an advanced pattern. One should be well versed and comfortable with making BPDC, FPDC & FPTC stitches. I've been doing all three for at least 10 years, off-and-on, and I find this challenging. I'd recommend making at least a few projects using FP/BPDC first. The Waffle pattern is a great way to practice FPDC and there is a wonderful hat pattern that utilizes both. I've made about 20 of those. I'd also recommend mastering basic cable designs, too.

    • @BonnieBayCrochet
      @BonnieBayCrochet  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, this is definitely an intermediate to advanced design.

    • @marigeobrien
      @marigeobrien 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@BonnieBayCrochet -- In doing this design, I'd also recommend, when beginning the 2nd set of FPTC (those worked in previous stitches) and going behind, it really helps to hold the three loops back on the hook with your index finger, until your hook goes through all of the stitches (i.e., behind the crossed stitches and the previous row's post, up again behind the crossed stitches) so they don't bunch up on the hook. Once it's through, release the loops and they are ready to do the YO. This makes doing these stitches much easier.
      Thanks for all your efforts. You really put a lot of work into this and it shows.

    Hi Bonnie, I absolutely love this throw and am tempted to throw caution to the wind and dive in but, after watching this video from start to finish twice, I think it’s a little advanced for me yet. It is absolutely on my todo list though.

    Hi Bonnie. I'm a little more than half way through with this gorgeous afghan. I was wondering if you have any suggestions on which rows to repeat to make it longer? I wish that I had realized that I would want it longer from the beginning. Then I would have added to the boarder. But I'd really like to keep the boarder the same size and just add more to the length of the cables.

    • @BonnieBayCrochet
      @BonnieBayCrochet  3 месяца назад +1

      I would just keep repeating in pattern stitch, but use the large braid to guide you when returning to the ribbing. In other words end where that cable looks complete.

    Bonnie, do you know who invented cable crochet and when that was? I know that you developed the technique further, and came up with the Celtic weave, but it would be interesting to know when it all started, crochet being a relatively new craft (1829?). Thank you so much for all the beautiful stitches you introduced me to. They happen to be my favourite stitches💐

    • @BonnieBayCrochet
      @BonnieBayCrochet  7 месяцев назад +1

      Great question Anna! Not sure there is a definitive answer about when crochet began. It is debated among many, but I learned some of these stitches from the late Annie Ough through Leisure Arts publications I found at the store in the 1970's. From there I tried to expand the possibilities - a passion I am working on even now!

    • @Anna-jl1rx
      @Anna-jl1rx 7 месяцев назад

      @@BonnieBayCrochet Thanks very much, Bonnie! I took a look. Ms. Ough's stitches are indeed great for side-to-side designs. As far as I could see, early post stitch cable patterns turned up in the 90s (?)
      Yes, crochet has so much potential. I'm looking forward to seeing what new cable techniques or patterns you come up with!

    I’m made a ton of Bonnie blankets. I’m having trouble though with the repeats after row 20. Shows in video to repeat EC 3-10 and LBC 2-7. Row 20 is RS. So row 21 is WS which means EC row 3 isn’t right because row 3 is a RS. Then it states that the LBC repeats every 3 rows is a cross. So row 19/20 then cross 21 (WS) but the only row that has WS is row 6. Is there anyway to get clarification?

    This Celtic braid throw is beautiful but I found myself not knowing what to do next after row 21. Which row do I start the whole pattern with again? I’m all messed up now and feeling like I just wasted $$ on enough yarn for this project. Please help.

      So sorry you are having issues with this. The video description has the time marks of the stitches should you need to review the repeat directions. This is where the written pattern will come in handy. Purchase Information is also in the video description. You can also reach me at bonniebay@ me.com.

    Will you do a 6 cable braid?

      I have done a Saxon Cable which uses 6 columns to form the braid, but this isn't on my public channel. Here's a link to the pattern which includes a complete video tutorial: www.lovecrafts.com/en-us/p/bonnies-winter-cabled-throw-crochet-pattern-by-bonnie-barker

    Hi Bonnie, 54" wide is not enough for me to start one of your beautiful throws. It has to be 60" wide.... What is your siggestion please? Thanks.

      You could make the ribbing trim wider on each side.

      @@annamamo3645 that really depends upon your gauge. That said, maybe add 8 sts to the beginning and end of the row? That should get you to 60".

    Hi Bonnie this really is a amazing pattern just love it ,I really appreciate your videos as I am a visual learner I can't read patterns believe I have tried ,just a quick question if I just repeat rows 2 to 20 over and over will this make the pattern right ? Thank you for all the time and beauty you put into your patterns and for sharing them ,just stunning this throw ❤

    • @BonnieBayCrochet
      @BonnieBayCrochet  8 месяцев назад +1

      Great question. Unfortunately it's a bit more complicated because the different cable use different numbers of rows to repeat. I tried to give clear verbal instructions as to this all works out in the video, but the written pattern is more specific as to which row of each cable is used for each specific row of the throw. For example, the honeycomb is a row multiple of 4, the elongated cable a multiple of 6 rows, and the large braid a multiple of 6 rows.

      Once you understand the cables, it becomes very visual (i.e. not as dependent upon the written pattern).

    I very well might be the only one, but I CANNOT follow the pattern. I've purchased it but I cannot follow. Is there, or is there anyone, that has this pattern line-by-line. I've spent over $75 on yarn and can't /don't know how to finish.

    • @BonnieBayCrochet
      @BonnieBayCrochet  8 месяцев назад

      That's a great question Lizajabar8075. Due to the way this throw is designed, it would require a redesign to widen it. The number depends on how many repeats and of which stitches you are adding to this design.
