I lost my father when i was 12 by suicide. The first time i heard Quadeca's I Didn't Mean To Haunt You i felt his energy there. I felt things that i kept repressed for years and really thought about how it was gonna be if it was the opposite. So i'm glad someone is sharing their (or their related ones) experience with suicide and this album because it really hits you differently

Avaa skye, super moving story - it's great to hear that resonated so deeply with your dad, and thank you for sharing. It's moving and refreshing to see a music critic who so unapolagetically embraces the emotion of what they review, and i can't understate what your anecdotes and experience that you lace into your vids does to enhance the experience! AVAA, the thing I love so much about this channel is how you explain how you process the art with a very raw and unfiltered expression of emotion, and I find it weird how many art reviewers fail to do that. Sharing personal experiences, sharing this much emotions in a review makes it a thousand times more valuable and constructive, and I think it's an important thing Skye is doing for us people to remember how powerful art can be.

Surprised you gave such short shrift to Texas Blue. After the wide emotional range of the album, I find that these four cycling chords provide a pleasant and alluring flow to depressurize in, lifting your spirits into a positive space, before closing the album.

I couldn't agree more when you said that what makes your videos so valuable is how you are able to link current generation of music back to older generations, as well as other significant pieces of art (the Tyler, the Creator and Baudelaire connection comes to mind), in order to highlight the universal human core in all of them. AVAA, and I just wanted to say how much I love and appreciate you for saying that you believe human genius is in everyone. I’m heading into college with the goal of being an English teacher and bringing out the voice of people who believe they have none. People who think they have nothing to say or that they aren’t creative or that they don’t have it in them to express their thoughts. I’m of the belief that unlocking that potential will always lead to good, and hearing you say the same puts a huge smile on my face :)

AVAA as a 20 year old trans girl the concept and confronting of suicide is extremely challenging and I Didn't Mean to Haunt You truly is an album that helped me fully grieve through it. ive never lost anyone close to me from suicide but it haunts extremely close to me and my family and ive always been scared of "turning into a statistic". again being trans does not help at all when confronting it lol. but ultimately Quadeca had completely motivated me to start making music and Scrapyard has strenghtened that resolve to make music because it has shown me that even disorganized thoughts that dont have a place in the grand schemes a human can cook up are as amazing and beautiful as those grand schemes. this whole splurge is just to say that this review was really beautiful and the story with your father really touched me. im glad that you can understand some music that really resonates with me and i hope you review more of Quadecas music as it comes out :3

    Avaa profesor.
I never recommend stuff here in the comments but I gotta shoutout 'Where we've been, Where we go from here' the debut album by indie band Friko. Really anthemic, triumphant and confident for a debut; with echoes of Bright Eyes, Superchunk and other late 90's to mid 2000's indie darlings (and even some BC,NR) + some truly evocative lyrics I think you would dig. Could be a neat Thunderground Tuesday or even a standard video considering they were just covered by Pitchfork and are ever-so-slightly blowing up right now.

AVAA skye and in this case one of your best. I rarely comment but wanted to voice my support for personal stories being included in reviews. Not only because that story resonated with me heavily but also because in general hearing your life advice and wisdome on how you built yourself a happy life is v comfotting for someone who was born in the same year as quadeca and often feels like hes treading water. Also want to confirm that as someone with likely undiagnosed ADD the structure of your videos actually can often hold my attention better than a video that is more thoughtfully structured and its reassuring seeing someone with similar issues do well in academia while i am currently struggling.

First off this was a very impactful video. It’s amazing to see the effect Quadeca’s art has had on so many people.
I completely agree on U tried that thing where ur human! The brutal self talk and rationalizing feels like someone’s internal monologue. Maybe there’s an element of a relationship these thoughts are strung to but the self transformative nature of the song is what makes it my favorite. It’s incredible storytelling for the world we live in.

The line in “a la carte” which mentions an LLC is actually about tax evasion…… it’s really funny, so the line goes “LLC for the next LP, And I’m never gonna give it back”, so this is about how if he opened an LLC for his next LP (album) he would be taxed at a much lower rate than normally

Hey Skye, loved the video! I think a lot of the reocurring themes of the albums of insecurity and reassurence reflect on the album name. I feel like scrapyard - as like a thing that is not "deserving" to be in an album - is a way for quadeca of protecting himself and his art from a potential lack of reassurence from the music community that he and his community (like you say they have a para social relationship) need so much. Just a thought, much love!

Quadeca actually does work with other musicians for certain sections of the music that demands authentic instrumentation, like when he worked with Thor Harris who did the drums on Cassini's division, he's far past making the music solely on computer, it might be mostly there, but he consistently works with people for authentic sounds.

Small lyrical nitpick that im not sure anyone has mentioned:
You mention his line on LLCs as a complaint around working with a label, but that is, to my understanding, inaccurate. He actually appears to be writing about tax evasion in my opinion (no, not joking). "LLC, for the next LP; and I'm never gonna give it back" Quadeca is talking about running an LLC under his own name which is subject to less taxes to funnel the LP's income into so that he can keep (and never *give back*) more of his earnings.
Also, you did get the pronouns right!

You mentioned the Brakence feature but didn't talk much about it- made me realize you never reviewed his amazing album from Dec 22’, Hypochondriac. If that was deliberate fine, but I really think you would have a lot to discover and explore with that album. It will also be weird if you never reviewed it when its influence starts showing itself all over indie music in the next few years.

Asked to describe the album, I found myself saying "Post-Ambient, Post-Emo, Post-Postmodern Hip-hop."

AVAA. Thank you for not mentioning Ye 😊. I thought it was called Scrapeyard cause these are ones that didn’t make it on ‘the ghost album.” Maybe not though 🤷‍♂️ it’s a great album either way!
